  1. Cold and snowing in Canada, wife and daughter out for the day, time to tackle the clutch side seal so I know it is done for the summer. Will be using the rag method so wish me luck! I will report back later and hopefully add some pics as I just completed the reprint for my daughter in her color of choice
  2. I like those white domino grips and have thought about ordering a pair from the uk as you can,t get them in Canada. Are they any good, I believe they are dual compound with the white part being soft which is what I like for my delicate hands, what's the verdict?
  3. In addition to several "Finbarr Saunders" types, it would appear that this forum also has its fair share of "Aldridge Priors".........
  4. Hi all, Sammy Miller here, boy its cold over in Canada, wish I had the old Ariel here, would be just what I needed to keep my hands warm on that hot exhaust, oh, and by the way, I am resurrecting Bultaco andhope to have a new model out by Easter......say tuned!
  5. Fnaar, Fnaar.........not a real Canuck, an expat raised on Viz (and still has it sent out to me over here)
  6. Rim job, How big is your box?.........Finbar Saunders and Mr Gimlet would have a field day with this one.........fnaar, fnaar!!
  7. several on ebay....http://www.ebay.com/itm/1976-1977-Yamaha-TY250-BRAKE-PEDAL-SPRING-LOADED-TYPE-VINTAGE-TRIALS-FOOTREST-/261157237179?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cce2f31bb&vxp=mtr
  8. The real question shoud be is it slow enough? Speed has no place in trials except when you are going between sections
  9. sheared some teeth off the idler gear when you engaged it while running.
  10. Charlie, I have not seen one in person but there are plenty of vids on YouTube at this link: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ktm+freeride&oq=ktm+freeride&gs_l=youtube.3..0l10.4250.6188.0.6281.12.7.0.5.5.0.172.907.3j4.7.0...0.0...1ac.1.s4RuBu9X5d8
  11. I had a similar airbox issues on my old Montesa and repaired it b y using a flanged M10 nut inserted from the bottom and held in place with industrial PL glue. I had to enlarge the old hole a little so the nut would push in from underneath up to the flange but not too much, it needs to be a compression-type insert so it is tight in the hole and then secured with the glue to stop it turning when the bolt is inserted. Definitely try the repair before buying new.
  12. Bugger me...so there are! That is what happens when you try to respond at 6am in Canada when its -10 outside
  13. 4 bolts to 12 which looks like the bolt that holds the back of the filter box either to the frame? or does it go through the rear fender?
  14. light weight oil, and don't "soak", pour a little oil on and massage well in until covered but not over oiled. Use a ziploc bag if you don't want to get your hands oily
  15. Yea!......purring like a kitten (a kitten with a rattly top end!) replaced the flywheel seal and she once again is running like a gud 'un. drained the gearbox oil and got almost 500cc back out so am going to assume the clutch side seal is okay for now, i'll keep an eye on it and replace it as required. Daughter is happy again, although she now wants me to paint it orange!
  16. Thanks Charlie: I will try the flywheel side seal first to see if it cures it and if still having issues then will try the rag method fo the other side. I am hoping that it is just the flywheel side as before I took it apart I had it running with my finger over the case vent and it was perfect, only revving up once my finger was removed. Thanks again.
  17. New seals are arriving on Friday for a Saturday install. popped the stator off with no difficulty, old seal was sitting crooked on the crank, when removed the back was pretty worn and the spring was half out of the seal, likely due to wear and it sitting crooked on the crank itself. Everything else looks to be in pretty good condition. I have ordered both crank seals just in case but don't have a clutch holding tool to do the clutch side seal so may have to wait, unless it can be done without removing the clutch basked....does anyone know if it can be? or does the clutch have to be pulled to get the old seal out and new one in? The clutch side seal appears to be okay as I am not losing any oil from the gearbox. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

  19. Thanks for the replies, I have checked the mains and they seem okay with no noticable play. I'll get the seal replaced and hopefully that (along with the new paint job I promised her over the winter) will keep her happy for a while. For almost 40 years old the bike itself is just excellent, easy to work on, and easy for my 8 year old to handle, a natural progression from her Oset. Thanks again!
  20. Hi all, looking for confirmation on the following question: My daughters TY80 has developed an idle problem, I cannot seem to control the idle speed at all with carb adjustments. I cleaned all the carb jets thoroughly and it was no better so fearing it may be the flywheel crank seal I pulled the breather hose andput my finger over the endand the revs immediately calmed right down, when I remove my finger it revs high again. I assume this means a crank seal leak is gone, can anyone confirm the diagnosis please. Secondly, is there anything else I need other than a new seal and flywheel puller? Thanks in advance for any advice! Winter in Canada means I have some time to get it fixed before our season kicks off again around the beginning of April!
  21. Just like Highlander, there can be only one.......and that would be SIr Dougster of Lampkinshire
  22. sounds like an in-line one way valve, should be no problen to remove it and stick a one way valve on a stubby bit of the pipe attached to the cap
