  1. LSS Top Tip: For those of you fortunate enough to have an LSS battery kit, to offer a little more protection and waterproof-ness simply wrap the pack in a piece of bicycle inner tube from a mountain bike or similar (or your daughters bike if you are like me). Cut a piece about 6" long and spend half an hour grunting and stretching it over the pack until you have an equal amount either end, then simply zip-tie the excess around the wires at the top, and around the bottom to keep water and mud out.
  2. Well.....I just had to sit down and write now that I have an LSS fitted. What a revelation! I was not having much of an issue starting the bike anyway, I had had it remapped up to the soft 13 and 3-4 kicks from cold was usually all it took. Sure, there was the odd occasion when I was too knackered to give it a good hoof that it sometimes took more, or I had to find a rock to stand on to get above it. but it was nothing that really bothered me too much. Anyway, enter LSS.....picked it up on Sunday, work prevented installation until today, spent an hour mounting it on the headstock behind the number plate, nifty bracket to hold the on/off switch. Fired it up, warmed it up, ran it up and down the street, turned it off. Turned it back on, lazy half-assed kick, off she goes.....unbelievable! What an excellent bit of kit. Well worth the wait. I was very happy when I got the Ossa to replace my 315r, but this just takes it to another dimension.
  3. This has indeed been a very interesting thread to follow and I am glad that the solution seems to ultimately have been found. Kudos to Deon for seeing this through and not bailing out. Hope you enjoy the bike as much as we all know you will!

Don't leave us hanging Deon!......its like a soap opera
  5. Deon, did you receive the battery pack yet and if so does it work for you and your dad?

    How Is It

Yes, there are 16 pages on starting issues, however the first 7 pages seem to be people speaking about individual issues on starting which all seem to have been resolved either with getting easier after some run-in time on the bike, mapping updates, or people modifying their techniques (myself included), then we enter the saga of Deon, which the remaining pages seem to centre around. When I first got my bike my technique was total crap, but others could start it no problem. Now, with the latest mapping and me improving my technique as best as I can, it maybe takes 3-4 kicks from cold to fire it up. I have never owned a brand new bike before I bought the OSSA, the warranty and promise of dealer support were definitely factors that supported my purchase and I have to say that the support is second to none, advice, mapping updates without question as soon as available, suggestions on how the bike can be improved to suit my riding style, all of which were greatly received. Fortunately I hve not had to make any use of the warranty to date, but I would be confident that if needed it, it would be readily available. Of course I realize that this may not be the case for everyone, but I am fortunate to live relatively close to my dealer which makes my experience to date a great one.

Nothing wrong with mine either, but if there was I would be okay knowing that it would be covered by my 2 year warranty, which i believe is at least 18 months longer than other manufacturers. Plus, the gearbox is a piece of cake to work on as it just slides out as one full unit.

    How Is It

Ha!...I can answer this as I ditched my 315 for a 280. The 280 is just miles better, its that simple. It is lighter, the FI pulls like a train from nothing. I could go on and on! I thought my mont was the greatest thing until i had a go on the OSSA, then it was just disappointment at how far things had advanced. You may read in the forums aboiut starting issues, I can say that when my bike was brand new it did take a certain technique to get it going, but with the latest mapping and it now being run in a lot more it is now very easy, 3 kicks from cold max. Bottom line is that I effing love it!
  10. the oither tube that exits into the frame is either the crankcase breather, or the stator case breather that exits crom the top of the stator cover in the vicinity of the ignitionwires that comeout of the stator cover plate. Actually there shouldbe 2 holes in the frame for 2 tubes, the crank breather (exits thecrankcase by the carb bowl)and the stator breather.
  11. nothing like a quick dampening of the spirits..............
  12. So, recovering from too much sun on the weekend, and a nasty stomach bug, I was tinkering around in the garage and decided to check the state of the Jitsie filter. The last time I rode the bike was last Thursday, as it was hot and dry the venue was quite dusty but I was surprised at how much dust was caught on the jitsie filter that would otherwise have been caught by the main tube filter. I checked them both out to compare and the main filter was spotless and did not require any cleaning. A quick clean and light re-oiling of the jitsie and I am good to go again. Thumbs-up for Jitsie!
  13. I didn't feel any difference in the poweer. My dealer loaded a soft map 13 on and it felt the same with and without, the only differenece was as you said in the sound.
  14. So I installed the Jitsie air filter on my OSSA running the latest soft map 13 and it had absolutely no effect on the bikes performance or starting. The only noticeable different was as Sunlingkau had stated earlier that it sounds slightly different when breathing, but after about 2 minutes I had forgotten all about it. So, basically it seems like quite a good bit of additional kit, whether or not it is worth the $30 remains to be seen as it would be very easy to make one yourself. One thing I did notice was that as it came it was not a very good fit. To make it fit better and seal against the top of the air box I had to remove the tab at the top of the filter completely. ONce this was cut-off the filter fitten nicely into the locator on the underside of the top panel an was held down and sealed against the top of the air box. With the tab in place the filter does not seal against the box and the top panel will not seat back against the frame correctly.
  15. Its not that its a lot of fuss to change the filter, although you have to admit that it is more involved that others. The main point of the question was to try to find out what its intended use was, either primary or pre-filter. To me the idea seems like an excellent one as a pre-filter providing that the airflow can be maintained, although the build quality and double density foam filter element make it look like a regular primary filter. Also from the way it looks the available breathable surface area would seem to be at least equal to the opening in the rubber cap. I'll install and try it on the weekend and report back if there are any noticeable differences, I am also running the most up to date map so it may be a different experience to Sunlingkau as I think he may have tried on an earlier map (although I am not sure).
  16. Sounds like this is looking better, hopefully it is now down to your dads technique, which it sounds like if you can get it going agin in 3. I agree with Tjums, nearly beer time......
  17. I regularly now give mine a good thrashing. I was a bit skeptical at first but my dealer soon put me on the right track by thrashing the b%ll%cks of it right in front of me. I was wincing when he did it but once he had and showed me the difference in what was coming out of the exhaust before and after I was amazed at how less smokey it was.
  18. Some of you may or may not know this already, but for those of you that don't...rememebr to keep your steering head bearings fully greased. A quick and eay way to do this without having to take the headstock apart is to simply remove the front number place and then remove the two bolts holding the EFI capacitor in place, replace the bottom bolt finger tight to block the hole, then place a grease nipple in the top hole, attach your grease gun and pump the head full of grease. You can check to see how full it is by removing the bottom bolt at first and waiting until the grease pumps out, then replace he bolt and pump some more in. Very easy and certainly saves taking the steering apart.
  19. Has anyone yet determined if the Jitsie Ossa tr280 air filter is an addition to the regular filter, or a replacement? I have one and the dual foam filter looks like it could be meant as a replacement. At the very least it should make cleaning of the main filter less frequent as if it acts as a pre-filter it should catch 99% of the crap before it gets to the main. Sunlingkau, I think you also have one, what do you think of it, and do you run it as a pre-filter?
  20. I would guess that you dealer has found something and has reloaded map 13, or upgraded to it from an earlier map. It does not seem possible that after all your troubles everything is suddenly perfect, although I am glad for you that it seems to be better, it is too good a bike to be spoilt by a starting issue. I hope it starts okay in the morning!
  21. That is not very good service from the dealer if he was trying to show you up, you have just spent a considerable amount of money on not one, but two of the products he sells, he should be doing everything in his power to ensure you are a satisfied customer.
  22. This thread seems to have died a death.......I am sure it will become resurrected once the LSS system finally hits the market. For those of you that do have issues, if you haven't already, you should try a BPR5EIX Iridium plug, seems to make a difference to me, although part of my problem was my crappy starting technique which I have been working on.
  23. I find the clutch to be very litght on mine, never had any issues with it, one finger operation all the time.
  24. Sunlingkau indicated that he has purchased the LSS from his dealer, does this mean that they are now available to purchase?
  25. Hi, for someone more local to you contact Jim Jervis at Motoheadz in St Catharines. He is a certified suspension repair guy and should be able to help you out.
