Just thourght i'd keep you posted on how the bash plate attatchments held up, the two day trial was tough with a couple of sections being well out of my comfort zone (rocks, more rocks and some more rocks thrown in for good measure). The right side did its job perfectly stopping a few good wacks on the clutch cover, i've extended the flywheel side just for that little extra protection!!!!!!!! All I need to do now is make a rear fender out of checker plate because she seems to spend a lot of time upside down!!!!!!!
-
Sammy Miller was the Guru on Hiro's perhaps he has some engine bits and bobs stashed away!!!!!!!
Just a thourght!!
-
Take a few digi pics as you go along it will help with reasembly, especially the cable runs etc:

In the early days of hydraulic Brake/Clutch levers most adjusters were central in position to the piston..... meaning: they were interchangable and most riders only needed one spare lever (Most riders!!!!) Later machines went to the offset levers non interchangable meaning two spare levers of the correct type were needed just in case!!!!! When I got my Scorpa SY250 I looked at the levers and one is central and one offset (Bummer!!!)
Question is why did AJP and co go to offset levers? better braking, more feel, or so they could sell more levers??????????????
Just a thourght.................

I must admit the last trial was a two day event with stacks of bone and bike shacking rocks, plus I was riding one grade higher so I was well out of my comfort zone. No wonder the bike had a few nuts loose, I might have lost a couple of appendages too if "er in doors " hadn't got there first!!!
-
I apologise!! after 15 years in aus and undergoing a frontal labotomy to gain citizenship my ability to decifer double meanings has deminished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree the SY is the best all round bike on the market but I still want to know if any other riders have suffered more problems with loose nuts on their SY's than previous machines.
-
-
There's not a lot I can bitch about with my SY however one thing that does bug me is loose nuts and bolts.....
I know after every ride we all check the tightness of the various screw on bits and bobs (Don't We!!!!) but out of all the bikes i've owned my SY needs the most atention. Main area's being the rear sprocket, front/rear disks and the rear/front fenders, i've loctighted and torqued all the above fastenings but to no avail. Is this a common SY thing????? any other thread sealers you guys can recommend?

The fork and swingarm protectors are 52mm clear poly tube, belive it or not it helps you grip with the heal of your boots for lifting the back.... (the swing arm not the fork protectors)
Will be leaving for a two day trial today, and its been raining all night so that will be the first wet trial of the season ill let you know if the checker plate survives!!!!!!!
thanks for your comments guys

There is one major drawback to a having a Scorpa and that is because the bike flatters your limited riding ability, less points are gained and you find its time to move up a level...... Trouble is you then need ability and rather large appendiges (of which I have none) and damage may and does occure...... For us with limited funds (and a nagging wife) kevlar fork, swingarm and water pump protectors are out so for a mere $15 Aus i've made these bolt ons!!!!

There's no clubman route at the Aussi Nationals in October i'm afraid there Downunder, so you had better start getting scratches on it before you ride in the oldies class!! My 06 bashplate on my 04SY has already taken a pounding I'd hate to see the damage to my side cases if i'd kept the original item!
-
Wow what a lawabiding lot, you guys are, I was at least expecting someone riding along the great wall of china, or dropping a point on the pyramids at geza!!!!! come on someone must of rode somewhere at least a little bit risky.
-
Obviously the engine wasn't the only thing to be put in the rear end of an Hilman Imp Lets not get off on tangent guys, (or a steamy Hilman Imp!!!)
-
Trials bikes have been sighted in the strangest of places, Mount Kilimanjaro springs to mind which brings me to the wonder the "Strangest place you have rode!!"
Personally my claim to fame was riding a TY along the casing (deck) of a nuclear submarine whilst serving in the Royal Navy, I would like to do it again on a Beta Rev3 but I know the Stator wouldn't survive the radiation......
-
On my SY04 forks I set the adjustments half way ie: twenty ish clicks in 10 ish out, same with the other side..... works for me!!!!!!
-
I wouldn't be wearing that attire with my scorpa's exhaust, perhaps the 06 exhausts are cooler?
You would want to make sure your spare sock was in the right position wearing that little lycra number!!!!!
-
It's been over a year now since the 4RT replaced the 2ST whats the concensus:
Did Montesa do the right thing or should they have run on the 2ST for a couple more years?
How many units are the dealers selling in 06 compared with 04?
Do you think the indoor series has hurt Montesa?
-
Hey you guys might get Euro Sport coverage but we get Lizzie ERII to observe one of our trials!!!!
It was a great display running for around 10 minutes, the pressure on the riders must of been awsome, nose wheelies and bunny hopping in front of billions!!!!!!!!!!
-
Sorry mate i'll explain, take off the rear gaurd and tank, un screw the top to the carby, pull back on the spring and release the throttle cable.....
OK your should have the spring, put that to one side, also the carby slide which incorperates the needle.... Find a clean area to work in, unscrew the two phillips screws in the slide and remove the needle ( remember where it all goes or take a pic with the digital mobile/camera )...... on the needle is a small circlip which should be midway in the groves, pull the circlip off using pliers and move it down one grove (this raises the needle letting in more fuel and hopefully fixes the knocking problem) put it all back together checking the throttle returns properly prior to putting the tank on and there you have it. (20 mins job)
Good luck!!!
Subtract all the bits you put back on, from all the bits you took off and you should get zero!!!!!!
-
After retarding my 04SY back to the original yam settings I noticed a little knocking once she got hot, I lifted the needle one clip and that cured the problem. I mix 200ml per 15l of unleaded "go juice!!" and have no problems, also check your coolent level she may be running too hot...
For a cheap alternative to Kevlar buy a meter of 52mm clear poly tubing from your local DIY which will cover both fork legs and slides nicely onto both swing arms, I know its doesn't look that 'blingy!!' but its a darn sight cheaper.....
-
Had my first official outing on my 04 sy on Sunday, and was most impressed!! dropping ony 6 marks to my arch nemisses's 30. Usually on my sherco he would always beat me by a good twenty points. Only mods ive done is retarded the ignition to the Yam settings and lifted the needle. My No2 son, who rides experts on a 270 BETA loves it but reakons it won't rev out like his BETA, saying that he reakons it'll always go where the BETA goes it just doesn't sound like it will make it!!! I myself don't ride anything to drastic, and would say making the bike more responsive would land me in trouble mind you i'll be trying out a 140 main jet next trial just to see!!!!
-
Are the best riders left or right handed?
Out of the top ten world finishers last year how many were lefties?
If your an orthadox right hander does this give you a more refined throttle control or does it go against you by having a more jerky throttle action?
Does a southpaw leftie suffer from cramp in the clutch fingers as much as a rightie?
And while were on the subject do righties have more or less rear brake control?
I'd say once you get over the initial, how to ride a bike stage your brain compensates for the reletive strengths and weaknesses of the limbs, (some brains obviously adapt a lot better than others!!)
-
Havn't seen mant trials cartoons!
Seen plenty of Goofy riders though!
-
PA!!!
Thats somebodys daughter, and more importantly there observers!!!!.
Don't you guys in the colder climates get observers like that?????
See what you guys are missing out on if you don't come over here in October for the nationals.
-
Had a trial at the perth venue last Sunday, got to ride there for another trial again this Sunday and the Sunday after that there is a practice day there. Lifes a bummer man!!!!! mind you the novelty wears off in 35deg, sometimes I dream of a 1deg Kent trial with real water and slippery tree roots.
You guys are welcome to ride there when you all come over for the Australian nationals in october!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
