Concur ishy!
Lane has more life skills and experience than most riders could ever dream of and when it comes to discussing whats best for "Across the pond!!" is definetly the subject matter expert.I reckon 90% of you guys should follow the teachings of Lane!!!! the GURU!!!!

Boards are better and you don't need an additional puncher at the end of the section, also less chance of riders complaining about their score, what they don't see can't hurt them. Saying that sometimes you can miss a gate for two or three laps especially if you hurrying and collect a five until the observer reminds you or you watch someone else ride.

Very nice!!!!! are the gold rims the original colour?
To tell the truth it may of been early 80's when I got the frame, unfortunatly I have no pics of the bike all I can remember I sold it in 85ish.
-
Not too sure how many of you foreign chaps would be interested but the Australian Nationals will be held in Perth Western Australia on the 14th 15th October this year, any enquiries feel free to contact me for details, (book early miss the rush!!!)
-
I aquired one of the first majesty frames from Don Godden back in the late 70's, I won't go into details!!!!!!!!!! I don't know if he is still at the same address (East Malling, Kent) but he should know the paint scheme.

I remember many moons ago I had a shiney new Yam XJ650 with an alarm fitted behind the numberplate. Wedged behind the yam in the passageway was my Yam TY250 with a padlock and chain attatched, fairly secure you would think. One morning I found my XJ650 had been moved slightly to the side, checking on the XJ and TY nothing appeared untowards, I was impressed that the alarm had obviously done its job and scared off the would be thief. That weekend I went to load up my trusty TY on to the trailer and low and behold she was missing the brand new Girling gas shocks I had just bourght her!!!!!!
Morale to the story: try to lock up as many parts of the bike as possible, if you just run a chain through the front wheels of your Rev3/Fantic240/Arial 500 you may end up looking at three front wheels when you open the shed in the morning!!!!!!
Food for thourght!

Given the conditions the observers at the delruth did a fantastic job, some of the calls were well managed. ie: On some of the tougher (even tougher) sections some riders slipped back half a wheel, but because of the severity of the section and the rider still carrying on to fight his way over the other ten 6ft rocks in the section they were not given a five. The pressure of giving a top 10 rider a five when the crowd and the minders are screaming and clapping him over his fantastic ride must be immence!!!! especially when for the other 363 days of the observers year the likes of Lampkin, Fuji and Raga have near demi god status!!!
Ishy do you know the story behind Fuji on the second day when he was given a two, the observer then explained why and indicated to something on his shoulder, Fuji talked to the observer, they both smiled and Fuji was given a one?????????
-
ok ishy ive called in the experts on this one ie:the misses!!!!! She would let it go because the tape wasn't snapped and the peg still in the ground, however the aussi bible states (10.5.3.2 a five occurs when : Breaking a boundary tape or dislodging a boundary marker) Now Dougie succeeded in seperating the tape from the marker without dislodging the marker or breaking the tape????????? how you interperate that one is a toughy!!!!
Its the same as dislodging a log that a tapes connected too, seperating the tape without breaking it, five or clean?????
I noticed Raga fived the same section before that and an explanation wasn't forthcomming?????
in summery, excellent work by the observer he stuck to his guns on both accounts which I class as consistancy or "KARMA" what ever way you read it.
-
Ummmmmmm nobody complains when it happens to some other sucker and you win by default!!! I always go back to the observer (unless its the wife) and tell them I dropped a two when they mark me down for a clean!!!!!
Got to watch the Delruth 05 dvd last night and noticed a few riders got one's and two's instead of threes when they clearly dragged the bike through the section, nobody complained on that one although Dougie complained when he sent some tape flying!!!!. S@#t happens, when the observer is standing out in the pouring rain for six hours freezing thier tackle off and not getting paid for it.
In a field of say 60 riders riding 8laps at a club trial an observer watches a grand total of 480 individual rides some margin for error both + & - has to be expected. Any observer whether a eight year old child or a 60 year old senile old geezer is better than self observing!!!!!!!!!!!

I've notice that my throttle cable is chaffing on the lower yoke of my 04SY,is this common?, & what the best way to reroute the cable?
I notice on full lock it sometimes catches on the yoke along with the clutch cable etc: although secondhand i'm sure the cable routing is standared. Any advice appreciated, before I wrap said cables in something more substantial!!

Perhaps your dad was after Grand Children !!!!!!!!!
-
I remember Cyril a fine athelete in his own rite!!!!

I'm using some motul 2t given to me at the moment however compared to my usual castrol it just doesn't have the same sort of consistancy before or after mixing
and appears visually to be a very weak mixture!!!!! I've used 4 tanks worth so far with no ill effects, so it must be OK (touch wood!!!!)
Just a little of the subject!
What type of soil is your trials area made of GasGas?, obviously not loose sand or it would be a flat practice area very quickly.
Do you get any complaints off the neighbours in those houses close by?
Did the local council (govenment help fund it)?
-
One of our up and comming youngsters here in west australia who can ride any capacity machine has down graded from 250 to 125 for this season. The reasoning behind this move? because last year he rode a few italian trials and was seriously handicapped having to adapt from his 250 to 125.... Obviously looking at the big picture he wants to ride abroad (funds permitting)and next time wants to compete on an even playing field........... At the end of the day will any american youngster be prepared to ride in europe whilst they still continue to rides any capacity??????
-
I had knocking on my SY after retarding the ignition, I raised the needle on clip and this cured it. Give that a go, if that works its a lot less hassel than decoking and timming issues.....
-
A lot of riders, myself included, who's thermostat has died, hotwire the fan to run continuiosly with no adverse effects!!
-
Suprising what twin shocks can do in the hands of an A grader (expert)
Whilst putting around on the block on my Yam SY and extracting the urine out of my spotty faced 18yr old because his BETA was knackered again he asked to borrow my TY175. Within minutes he was busy bunny hopping, riding up some fairly large logs both convetionally and using the SPLAT method!!!! airturning 180 deg etc: The TY in question was bog standared with some pretty knackered rear shockies, it makes you think how todays wiz kids would have compared in the days of Andrews and Co. Mind you after about 15 mins of riding he was pretty well pooped while his dad was fighting fit and still trying to get up that dam log!!!!!!!
-
I've still got a 99, great bike.
Watch out for cracking at the top of the down tubes (level with the top of the radiator).
Check the gear oil for water contamination!!
Linkage overhaul costs a packet.
