Hi Feetupfun,
I could agree with what you are saying except....
1. If it is lean why doesn't the airmix improve things....even marginally?
2. I have also ridden in warmer days these past two weeks. But it been the same then too.
3. There is no flat spot at any time.... no matter what gear and what revvs I'm doing or how much load it's under.....it pulls like a train!!!
Found out yesterday that when I put the cap back on the carb (when I cleaned it) I wasn't paying attention and put the cap on backwards. That made things worse but so it's a lot better now. There's still a lot more power but I'm kinda getting used to it now.
Fuel/oil mix have remained the same too.

Hi Gents,
I few weeks ago I leaned out the pilot jet a bit more and found my bike ran smother than ever. And it ran really well like that for about 4 weeks (ridden most days).
But three week ago the climate turned a bit colder and it got down to around 3 degrees Centigrade over night. I rode my bike on one of those colder mornings and was shocked to experience how quickly it revved up with such small amount of throttle.. Like one eighth of a turn would top it out in less than second!!! ...And this problem has continued since.
I gave the carb a clean and slacken off the throttle cable (lots) but no real change. And I've also noticed that sometimes it is worst than others.
Now I'm sure some MX rider out there would love this to happen to their bike but it's personally driving me nuts so I was wondering if anyone could post me their ideas of what they think might be happening?
I intend to swap the carb tomorrow with the one off of our 125 (24mm OKO) but aside from that ..... your thoughts on this folks would be appreciated?

Gosh!!....Now I get it.
This is a very sad photo ....How the hell can this be fixed and restored to it's original strength?
I guess it's one of the negative effects of having such a good steering lock.... it leaves those down tubes more exposed.....And another concern is the way the rad has taken a wack too
I wish you the best of luck finding some way of fixing this properly.

Can you post up a photo of this?

Hey Cope,
I don't think you mentioned you were doing this mod?.....Would have been a lot easier using Nulon oil instead .... easily said in hindsight I know

Sorry but I was under the impression that Locktight would not be a very good electrical conductor?
Maybe one of those multi toothed lock washers would do the trick (then coated in some form of corrosion guard)?

Hi Gents,
Can anyone that tries this oil give there feedback on what they experience?

Any more input on this Gents?

As promised here it is...
All I did was drill out and countersink an old filler bolt. Then tapped out the hole and used a HSS contersunk bolt which I fixed in with Arildite (not rapid) to keep the bolt in there.
Then I painted the head of the bolt with hard black paint and put an o-ring over the head to finish it off.
The allan key is the same as size as before but there is a much firmer feel to tightening and undoing the oil bolt now.
I had use an electric hand drill to drill out the hole so it's not perfectly in the centre....but still looks OK.

Hi Gents,
Sorry for the late update.....
It's been cold here this past week so I tested the clutch one last time before the oil change..... Held the front brake on...One click, one twitch and no problems
So I warmed her up, lean the bike over 45 degrees, place a large clean magnet on the bash plate (and one underneath the plate to hold it there) and let the oil run over it, on it's way down to the oil pan on the floor. And I have the say I was very, very, very impressed The oil was still semi transparent so you could still see the bash plate through the oil running over it. There were no smears and and no silver linings and not a fragment of metal stuck to the magnet.
So as far as I am concerned this case is proven....and I am completely sold on this stuff.
BTW...it took me just 1min 40sec to refill the 450cc with this oil.
I have also made myself a new oil filler bolt that won't wear out...will post photos and write-up soon.

This is great information madbob,
Could you give us ANY part numbers you have and maybe some websites that helped you track this down.
I had seen the similarity with the vespa PX200E some months back but didn't investigate it as far as you have ....Well done and thanks for sharing this with us

Yes it's still the same after all these years.
Not sure why having them on "opposite sides" is an issue to you?

Well apart from the link between Beta/KTM engine development, none as you know Nigel. But my point is if 2T's motors are only a very small part of the overall engine market that's bound to drive their price up.
So staying with my scenario above I guess small time engine manufactures would still be happy to make a 2T motor for Trials but how would that effect the price and how much engine development would go on?
Just discussing a hypothetical

Some interesting points here gents
Let say (for instance) that MX went 100% 4T. Would that make 2T trial motors expensive to buy for the engine manufactures?....As the 2T volumes would drop like a rock wouldn't they.
Hey Jon.....can you shed some extra light to what happened to the GG 4T?....It looked so close ....yet now so far

That could be so. But I think it's complying to the manufactures maintenance schedule which sets the amount of maintenance (done by a mechanic) on new bikes....I think it's that cost that most people are referring to. Yes but will that change? It's my understanding that Fuel Injected 2T's have been proven to have lower emission's than 4T's ...If that's true and it stays like that (assuming we don''t all go electric) then the regulation in the US is bound to change eventually.

I was reading an MX mag the other day...while waiting for some new tyres to be fitted to my car.
There was an article in this mag about which type of engine will be used in motorbikes in the future. I know in Trials most people have pretty much concluded that 2T makes sense but after debating all the in's and outs's the guy in the MX mag put his bets on 4T for MX.
What's your opinion on this?

Hi Simon,
Yes I've had them all.....except for the Dellorto VHST.
What's the reason you want to change from the standard Dellorto?
My guess is you'll need an OKO 26mm and the right pilot and main jets for your local conditions.....that will get you started.
There has been many past threads written on this....just do a search for Keihin and OKO, filtered to this Shecro forum.

I used to like em like that too. But later found that if I rolled em more forward (as Cope described) I'd get less arm pump.

What a bunch of pussy cats you UK guys are ....One of the reasons I emigrated 19 years ago.
Steve Irwin didn't need to live near me to appreciate that he had some practical guts and didn't spend his life worrying about what might sting him next. Avoiding the sakes and spiders in life doesn't allow you to appreciate just how fantastic they are.
And when you work with ignition systems a lot....you get a shock every now and then....it's not that big a deal!
Having said all this ....Chrisb go with the device that Stork suggested....it's bloody good advice.

If you are referring to this, honestly I'm not being sarcastic I'm telling you this because it's a really great test!!
Firstly unless you have a really weak heart it ain't that dangerous....I've taken the full pelt of a 6 cylinder running engine a few times and it's not that big a deal. The voltage is high but the current is very low. Meaning there's not really is enough energy to burn or injure you and it will only be one quick pulse before you stop.
Secondly and more importantly, if you get a shock it will prove that there is an active circuit in place but the voltage is not high enough to jump the spark plug gap....try checking that with your digital meter...you can't....it's too fast. And by my reckoning the shock will prove that you have a problem in either the CDI or the Stator and any possible wiring problems are eliminated......Honestly it won't be the big deal you think it will be.
