  1. I was wondering where those guys were Sunday! 29r, you gonna make any of the MOTA trials this year?
  2. Why did I start? When I was kid, we rode in old strip mines, and most of the adults at some point had a trials bike. After about a 10 year absence from any off road riding, I was just getting back into dirt riding when I went to a new bike show where they were doing a trials demonstration (I think it was Jess Kempke and someone else). I was totally blown away by what they were doing and the bikes they were riding (Gas Gas 280 & Sherco 2.9) were nothing like the TY, TL and KT's I remembered. I then spent about a month trying to find a bike and looking for local events or people to ride with. Why do I continue? I still ride my WR250 and my street bikes and I have noticed that since I started trials, all of my riding has gotten better. Also the challenge of trying to advance my riding will always be there (I'm a slow learner ) How to get more people involved? I have no idea, except what got me. Be at the places where people already have a motorcycle interest with bikes, and demos at a level where it's impressive but not everything is out of the realm of possibility for the average off road rider.
  3. Speaking from an engineering standpoint; if the fuel was in the seat area, a pump would be required to get the fuel to the carburator. A pump requires either a mechanical drive from the motor or electricity adding complexity and cost. For the record, Bill Scott of Windsor, Ont. did exactly what you're asking for to a 1969 Sherpa 30 years ago
  4. I rode my first non-MOTA event this weekend in Kentucky... WOW. The terrain was unlike anything I've been able to ride in SE Michigan (did you know they have HILLS down there?!) just the loop trail was more fun than most of the natural terrain here. I got to meet Alan, very nice guy, along with everyone else that I spoke with. They even got a pic of me in the gallery, but the only way to tell is I was the only one on a Scorpa Looks like I'm gonna have to keep that weekend open next year
  5. Further proof that some people are fools year 'round.
  6. Well, it's a good thing she doesn't read this
  7. Thanks, I've already talked to Mike, unfortunatly there aren't any dealers in Michigan. And, right now, there aren't any other Scorpas either. For now, I'm thinking of getting a used '02 or '03 from the Tryals shop, their used bike sales conditions seem very reasonable. If my income tax returns turn out better than usual I may even get a new one
  8. Thanks for the input. Anyone wanna send a new(er) Scorpa to me so I can try it I'm the only Scorpa rider in my area and I like being able to tell my bike apart from the sea of Gas Gas's and Monts at the events.
  9. So, if I'm understanding correctly, I can't assume that I'll like the SY any better than a Gas Gas, 315, etc. based on liking my Easy better than the others.
  10. Not only the exhaust, but the compression ratio also effects volume. The Scorpa is probably not as highly tuned as the 4RT so the ignition stroke would be softer, therefor, not as loud.
  11. I knew this was gonna get confusing What I was getting at was, things like steering geometry and weight bias. For example, I've had and/or ridden several Kawasakis, a '72 175, mid 80's KDX, '86 Vulcan, '92 KX500, '94 KX250, '99 1500 Vulcan; They all had a "feel" that said Kawi, that was different from equivalent bikes from other manufacturers. So, to me anyway, there are certain things that seem to say to me, "Honda" or "Kawasaki" or "Yamaha." For me, Gas Gas has a tendency to feel unstable in the steering geometry, it wants to "tuck under" compared to my Scorpa or the Mont 315, also the mass seems very centralized, like a ball between your feet, and my Scorpa gives me better feedback as to what's happening at the wheels. Am I making sense now?
  12. Can anyone tell me the differences between the Rotax powered Easy's and the Yamaha powered SY's? I'm referring to differences in handling, engine reactions, etc. Do the SYs have the same basic "feel"? I'm probably not making any sense
  13. I've got a '97 250 Easy that I plan to replace this spring. Upon my purchase of the replacement my brother is going to buy my current bike. The problem is, I haven't really seen many equivalent bikes for sale to get a value for it. I don't want to rip-off my brother, but I also can't afford to sell him a $2000 bike for $500. The bike is in good condition with new fenders, could use a new rear tire for competition use, but since there aren't any events in his area that shouldn't be a problem.

    Scorpa 96

I've had a '97 Scorpa for 3 years now, and I have had few problems. The only serious ones were a cracked fork clamp (not the bikes fault ) and a worn water impeller seal. As far as performance, the bike is still better than I am, it seems a little front heavy compared to most of the other bikes I've ridden and it seems to hook up better than average. DISCLAIMER : This is my first "modern" trials bike, I have also had limited time on the following - 2000 Gas Gas 200 2000 Gas Gas 321 2000 Montesa 315 2003 Gas Gas 300 (very limited ) 2001 Sherco 125

    97 Scorpa Easy

I've got a '97 Easy that I bought 3 or 4 years ago, the only engine problem I've had was the internal water pump seal. If I forget to change the tranny oil, the clutch will be a little sticky when cold. Other than that, the only maintainance requirements have been typical of all bikes. If it just wasn't 20 lbs heavier than the new bikes I wouldn't be considering trading it off next year.

    Rear Sprocket

If you check the Tryals shop web page, it shows applications for some conponents including sprockets. I know some were cross-brand compatible.
  17. I believe the Tryals Shop here in the US carries parts for those, you might contact them to find someone a little more local.
  18. I looked at the CRF-X motor to compare, the only thing that looks stolen is their "unicam" design.
  19. Thanks Gaby, We both enjoyed ourselves, but she was disappointed with her score for the day, but considering she's only ridden about 2 hours this year before Sunday, I thought she did great. I'm in the process of getting her a replacement bike, and she's really looking forward to it. She's wanting to get a lot of practice in this year. If she follows through with what she's telling me, she could be our most improved rider this year.
  20. Brian, I've started replacing my original posters with new "reward offered for recovery" posters. This morning I stopped at a gas station where two local cops were getting coffee, showed them one of my flyers and they hasn't heard anything about it They did, however, say that they knew of several places that people rode locally and would keep their eyes open. Maybe I'll have to personally stop every cop I see.
  21. I'll have to check the title to get the VIN, so I can list it on the stolen bike register. It sounds like Ryan may have underestimated how many 125s were imported in 2000, still, there can't be very many in this area (SE Mich), I know I can't seem to find very many small bore bikes for sale. I just wish the police actually seemed to be looking for it
  22. Mine was the orange, it was originally sold to someone in Montana. There is one (that I know of) orange 200 in MOTA also. I hope everyone around here understands if someone questions them about where they got an orange Sherco.
  23. What year/color is it? According to Ryan Young there were only 3 imported in 2000.
  24. Well, the bike hasn't shown up yet and the season is starting. So now I guess I need to find another bike. If anyone knows of a 125~200 for sale, at a reasonable price, I would like to hear about it.
  25. I've made up posters with photos, and put them up at the local convenience stores and will be taking some to all the local bike shops tonight. I suspect it was local kids and they most likely dumped it in the woods somewhere around here. I've already gone through the thing with insurance, I had my WR250 stolen Aug '02 on vacation, luckily I got that back.
