Are you kidding? Yes, Honda does the engineering and manufacturing of the 4RT, they have since the 314R days.
-
The forks and brakes on the Standard model are "shared" components with other manufacturers, along with some wheel/hub components. The rest is Honda/HRC. Honda owns Montesa, has for decades.
-
As promised. Crude but effective -
-
Currently 5 in competition with the Mountain West. 3 bikes run fork braces (home made), two fairly stock ones and the big boy that my buddy built with a DT100 front end. I'll post pics later when I get home from work.
"Nutters from New Mexico"...

No worries, glad I could help.

The 314R was the first "official" HRC Montesa, only produced for a couple of years. The 315R was the outgrowth of that program, and had much success.
"Later" 315R wheels were similar to the 4RT wheels, but the hubs were different.
I can't speak for early 315Rs, but my '99 315R wheel assemblies are different from what you have posted pics of.

My '95 314R -
If the PO advertised yours as "4RT wheels", then he needs to have his ass kicked. They may fit on a 4RT, but they were never used on 'em.
-
Those are for a Montesa alright. A 314R.

Stumbled across some pics of Marc Colomer's hootchied-up Works 314 on FaceTube (whatever) recently . No Works 315R pics still? This bike was the genesis of the 315R -
Yeah, that frame is OE.. Look REAL close here, kiddies!! What else do you spot?
Someone out there has pics, I'm sure...

I came across another competitor pouring fuel into his GasGas last year from my fuel jug at a fuel dump. Surprised me to say the least. When I asked why, he replied that he had forgot to put his fuel in the truck to go to the fuel dump. Normally I don't mind if asked, but to have someone I don't know just take my 110LL fuel irked me a bit. I said "No problem, have fun pushing that bike back"
I ride a 4RT Montesa.

Damn. Sad news indeed. Godspeed, Martin.
-
I love that story!! I don't suppose there are any pics from that event? Prolly not.
Anytime you want to dig that jewel out and come ride with us, you are cordially invited. Bring some friends (or all of 'em!!), we'll have a good time!

Been posted elsewhere on the web (ADV Rider), but we had so much fun this weekend I had to share here!
Pics from the Mountain West Vintage Trials Association's season opener last weekend -

Geez boy, I think you have more damn junk than I do!!

Yup, heard it last week. He's also signed up for Arizona, and is planning the whole series.
He'll be riding the Standard, not the Repsol.

*Bump* for a cool thread.
2 315Rs in my garage, next to the 4RT and the slowly-being-revived 314R. Any fresh info or ideas, besides buyng a new (brand X) bike? C'mon, that's boring. One off, Unobtainium, Factory, Prototype, custom well-engineered "Works" type stuff is what we're after here.
Ideas.
Pics.
Links.
Solid info.
What'cha got??

On a competition machine sold without an expressed or implied warranty, it's called "Goodwill", as it's not really considered "Warranty". The OEM will cover the parts cost under Goodwill, but not the labor. It's not unheard of here in the States, and is a way to take care of those who purchased a Warranty Exempt "Competition Only" vehicle, or one that the OEM warranty has expired.

Wow!! Absolutely fabulous work, sir!!
-
No worries. Come to Albuquerque, and ride mine!!

Interesting turn on this thread.
I can't really fathom these problems that you good folks are reporting. I have a garage full of HRC Montesas, and the build quaitiy is what you would expect from a parent company that sells several thousand Accords a day. My 4RT has literally thousands of hours on it, and has never once suffered from these maladies. The 2 315Rs in my scuderia never have either. My old warhorse 314R had a whomped top-end, but that was PO induced and had nothing to do with OE quality.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying your problems with your Montesas are BS, I'm just wondering what exactly led to these maladies. I was a Registered Honda Technician here in the U.S. for a number of years in a previous life, and one thing I did learn over those years is that for every failure there is a path to the outcome. Some were quality failures sure (very few), most were caused post-sale. Not saying yours were. In my tenure, I investigated and repaired various and sundry failures on everything from Z50s to GL1800s and belive me the quality failures were very few. I'll be the first to admit that Honda has, will, and continue to step on it's own d*ck now and again, but that is a rare occurance and is usually rectified fairly quickly.
Read into this post what you will. I'll be the first to admit that I'm an HRC/Honda/Montesa fanatic, so my outlook is pretty biased. I am however, an HRC/Honda/Montesa fanatic for a very good reason.
Enjoy your bikes. Viva Montesa!
