Soaking in about 1 gallon of warm water with 1/2 cup of Baking soda and some laundry detergent works for me. Hang to dry exposed to direct sunlight. I then spray liner and helmet with "helmet fresh cleaner", a product available on ebay.
It even sanitized my dirty mind, fortunately that is only temporary.

Great event! The sections were well set up and having 9 was fine with me.
I still am re-riding the sections in my mind. I always enjoy riding Meriden events

As Laser1 suggested, Providence, Rhode Island would be your closest airport followed by Boston. I didn't think they had international flights coming in. Providence is a small city only 1 hour north of the event with several options for hotels right in the city.
Plenty of accommodations along the route to the event as well. Cranston, East Greenwich, even Newport if you can tolerate having your wallet emptied since it is high tourist season. In Newport there are quite a few bed and breakfast homes that are nice, clean and well kept. Some are older some are newer, I have a friend who has a newer one within walking distance of the ocean if that may be of interest to you, I'd be happy to inquire on availability and cost.
Also, there are a great number of good restaurants in both the Providence area and Newport. Newport is on the ocean overlooking the harbor with the island of Jamestown just across the harbor. You may want to check the area out on Google Earth for a sense of what it is like. It does get very crowded in July.

Nigel,
This is the world round in Rhode Island web site under development:
http://www.wtc2015usa.com/index.html
As far as hotels, I don't know specifics but I googled "hotels near escoheag ri" and found a few. Best Western in West Greenwich was one. You might try tripadvisor for more info.
I'll post more info when it becomes available.

The location of the world round in Rhode Island is in Exeter RI.
Rhode Island Trials Club - RITC Escoheag Hill Road, Exeter, RI From RT-95 exit 5A to RT-102 South. Turn right onto RT-3. Follow Rt-3 for approx 2 miles to junction of Rt-165. Turn right onto RT-165 and follow for approx 6 miles. At bottom of hill turn right onto Escoheag Hill Road. Watch for arrows. From the West: Rt-165. Left on Escoheag Hill Road. Watch for arrows. GPS Coordinates: N41 35 21.6 W71 45 27.5
It would be much closer to fly in to Boston than NYC. With no traffic it is about a 2 hour drive.
I can look into local accommodations if it helps. Also check the newenglandtrials.com web site for information coming soon, none posted as of yet. I am a member of the RI trials club, I was told yesterday that there is a web site for the world round under development so it should be up soon.

The NETA rulebook is here with info for making your own plate.
I just printed mine in MS Word then laminated it and double side taped it over the aluminum plate on the bike.

I was able to force the tube sideways just enough to drive a sharpened screwdriver tip between the end of the tube and the bearing while rotating the bearing. It may just pop out after the initial couple of smacks.
Once you do manage get them out, don't forget to cut a couple of opposed clearance slots in each end of the tube so you can use a screwdriver next time

This is going to be a great world round. The RITC leadership and members are top shelf and they will certainly set the bar high. I was at the last RITC world round in 1999.
Recently found a few photos and here are ones from the 1999 round.

I find Teflon tape seals the bleeders just fine.

I have a 38 idle jet in my 1996 JTR270 with the needle clip where Laser1 recommended and it idles perfectly.
A while back I found that Dellorto has a great manual for these carbs on their web site along with all parts listed if you do not have a local source.
-
The bearing number should be listed in the parts manual available on the Gas Gas website in the TECH section. I have gotten wheel bearings from VXB.com for my 1996 JTR270 but they are in California US. They also have some of the swing arm bearings (HK1512 & HK1516) but without the double side seals. Make sure you get them with double seals if they have seals in the factory ones.
You could try Ebay too.

I have adjusted the two dials at the top of the fork (compression and rebound I believe?
Jake, Left is spring compression and right is hydraulic damping according to the manual. You might want to try 7.5 weight fork oil as well.

New front wheel bearings, cleaned and greased steering stem bearings.
Removed swing arm and cleaned all bearings and regreased. Flipping rear tire around today. Too much damn snow to ride in the yard.
-
I have a 1996 JTR270 and the forks sagged about 1/3 of the travel as well. I made 1" long PVC pipe spacers slit along the length and slid them on top of the springs on both sides and it is working well for me.
-
My bike was hunting for steady idle. I have a 1996 JTR 270 & used a #36 idle jet and it idles nice and steady now.
Check the gasgas web site tech area for specific carb jetting info on your bike.

My hands were tingling and going numb each night after I rode in an event in the beginning of last year. I found tilting the bars forward and adjusting the levers down a bit below horizontal for a more comfortable angle helped me a lot.
-
I have a 1996 JTR 270 I just got last year. I started off with what the manual recommended, 10-40 and I had the same problem, I could not find neutral with the motor running and had some clutch drag mostly while the motor was still cold.
I thoroughly bled the clutch & adjusted the master cylinder actuator bolt to the recommended free play but still could not get neutral with my foot while the motor was running. I recently switched to 5-30 Castrol GTX automobile oil and I can easily get neutral once the trans and clutch have warmed up but not till then. I haven't tried Dextron III yet.
I have been changing oil since mid-year with every trial hoping to see an improvement but its is still difficult till warmed up.
I had gotten fairly good results with rocking the bike backward slightly then forward while the motor is running and in 2nd gear with my foot on the shift lever and timing a stab at neutral and this made it a bit easier to get neutral.
Also if your idle is too high, it may make it more difficult if clutch drag is part of your issue.
Good luck,
Bob

As noted by you both (thank you very much), my Gas Gas gas tank is blow molded from HDPE just like the red fuel containers that never see any harmful effects from the ethanol.
I am a bit red faced that I didn't realize this myself. I can now revert back to worrying about how I am going to pay for health care once I retire (if ever).
Thanks for all the great info.

Now that I know Cam 2 has entanol in it I am considering coating the inside of my plastic tank.
Any thoughts on whether it would help protect the inside of a plastic tank from the damaging effects of the entanol with one of the tank coatings that are available? The only one I saw was from KBS but it is for metal tanks.
Does anyone know of one that works on plastic tanks?
Has anyone had success with this?
Thanks,
Bob

I scanned the brochure into a PDF document to post it and show that CAM2 does not even mention any reference to ethanol content but can't see how to insert an attachment. I tried a screen dump but that didn't work either.
Anyway, they don't state any version of CAM2 contains ethanol in the brochure but it is listed on the web site.
I might try sacrificing a small amount to see if I can extract it with water.
Thanks,
Bob

Thanks Motojunky, I should have read the Sunoco brochure I got from the guy at the station more carefully. Sunoco is the Cam 2 manufacturer. I'm glad you caught this but also mad now that I know I am paying a premium for corn juice in my fuel.
I'll check the color next time I refuel just to make sure which version it is they are selling.
I guess I'll be draining my tank from now on.

I stumbled on 100 Octane Cam2 at an Irving gas station near my house in Rhode Island.
The Sunoco/Cam2 web site has a dealer locator for the US: http://www.sunocoinc.com/site/Consumer/RaceFuels/260GT100Locations/
I'm happy to pay the $10/gallon to have it always available.
My 1996 Gas Gas 270 runs great on it.

It sounds like you have a fuel delivery problem or lack thereof. The motor leans out the instant you open the throttle.
Pull the fuel line off the carb and see if you get a full flow out of the tank with the gas cap on then with it off, you may have a clogged petcock or a clogged vent line or clogged fuel line.
Can you rig up a temporary alternate fuel supply?
Two carbs both haveing the same problem most likley rules out a carb problem.

I've just joined your site today. Lots of useful information here for a new trials bike owner.
I've just gotten a 1996 JTR 270 and unless the previous owners are responsible, I guess the US version has different graphics. I've only ridden it in the woods in my back yard but it has tons of power and starts on the 3rd kick. The first time I started it, I snapped off the starter lever end .
Not sure how to attach a picture yet but I will figure it out.
