  1. It's a Gas gas one - the standard yamaha boss is used and it was all converted by Craig Mowlem
  2. Here is my TY250a It's a long way from being 'finished' but it's slowly getting there. Not had a chance to ride it with the new exhaust and forks that work ( well I hope they do )
  3. Very nice - and the front brake is interesting. What is stopping the backplate from spinning round ?
  4. Hi Mattylad Thanks for the reply - any chance of a pic of your airbox ?
  5. Hi guys I am sure I read somewhere about using a Montesa 315r on a modified TY250 twin shock airbox I have seen the one on the very cool highly modified TY in one of the mags and on here but that uses a custom airbox and I want to use a standard ( but of course modified ) airbox Has anyone done this mod - if so can you please tell me how you did it or even better if you have a picture
  6. Well here is mine. It's a 1974 Ty250a that is a slow progress riding restoration job. The aim is to end up with a mildly tricked up bike but that still looks like an A model - I am almost certain to change my mind a few hundred times as the project goes on. I hope that by the time it's finished I am at least slightly competent on it as even though I have bene riding for 31 years I am amazingly rubbish at this trials lark :-) Anyway state of play as of today ....
  7. Hi guys From what I can see many twin shock bikes came with tiller style yokes as standard and most modern bikes do not. It also seems quite popular to either mod or change the top yoke to get rid of the tiller system. So what was the original thinking behind them and what has changed now that makes them a bad idea ?
  8. Thanks for all the input I decided on the dominos in the end after squeezing various kinds at the weekend and working out what my cables would fit into most easily.
  9. Thanks B40rt Does the lever have a bush or does it run with the hole in the ally straight onto the lever pivot bolt ?
  10. Thanks for all the replies. Quite a bit of support for the Dominos but leverage is something that I need to consider as the clutch routing on the twinshock TY250 isnt exactly ideal I am quite tempted by some on John Cane's TY site - I think they are made by Apico ( forged ) and have 3 positions on the lever for the nipple so you can adjust the ratio - has anyone tried these ?
  11. Hi Guys Although I specifically want some new levers for my 1974 TY250 I thought it made more sense to ask in here as it is a more generic question What levers would you recommend ? I currently have some VERY nasty generic ones on the bike and need to change them asap Also do all the trials levers on the market accept the same size cable barrels ? Thanks in advance for any help

  17. Hi Guys I am getting on with trying to make my recently bought TY250 rideable and I have noticed that the chain is running VERY close to the rear shock spring - is this normal ?
  18. Thanks for the replies Some good logic there and at least one point I hadn't considered

    Ty250A Carb Swap ?

Update ... After fitting the carb and throwing in some fresh petrol the bike still wouldn't start I had put a new plug in but the spark was VERY weak and I decided to go straight to an electronic ignition kit rather than muck about with the points ( lazy I know ) After fitting the kit ( from TY Trials ) I gave the bike a half hearted kick on the kickstart to get some fuel in the cylinder and it started first kick :-) It sounds very bunged up ( exhaust I assume ) but after setting the tickover it actually will sit on tickover At least now I have a running bike ( a very ugly running bike )
  20. Now that is nice I also like the silver rims just as they are
  21. Hi Guys I am at the early stages of getting a 1974 Yamaha TY250 into a usable condition I have put a new carb on it and an electronic ignition and now it actually runs I thought it might also be nice to be able to stop it so will be fitting a kill switch - the question is where do you feel is the best location for it ? It's a normal press button type but I have seen them fitted on the left hand bar - on the right hand bar and even in the middle between the two bar clamps I would be interested to hear your feedback in regards to the pros and cons of these locations

    Ty250A Carb Swap ?

Hi guys Can I swap the standard TK carb for a 26mm Mikuni as a straight swap ? Is the inlet rubber and the air filter hose the same ? I am assuming that I can just get a Mikuni and pop it on but I decided it might be sensible to ask first ... Rob
  24. I forgot to say the carb is a Bing Type 84 - 875
  25. Hi Guys My bike ( a 1975 159 325 ) has been sitting for a long time and the carb was full of gunk and the orings has rotted away. I cleaned the carb up and ordered some orings from Bultaco UK but it's not all all clear where the 3 orings actually go and the exploded diagrams dont help either Can you tell me where they go please It looks like oring 3 goes in groove C oring 1 fits the diameter of slot A but doesnt seem deep enough - thick enough - ie in can move up and down the groove I have no idea where the other oring goes ? Hope one of you can advise
