So, has anyone on this forum actually ridden a T ride yet?
I've read reports from a trail, enduro point of view but how about from a trials point of view?
I'd like to know how good a LDT bike it would make and would the cheaper, less powerful Beta Alp be a better trials machine?
Any comments welcome.

Not wishing to spread doom and gloom but Ralphy is right. Do it like he says, I can assure you, welding a fuel tank without carrying out the above process is extremely dangerous.
People do weld tanks by just washing out or filling with exhaust gas etc etc. But remember, they are lucky, are you?
Do the job right, do it once and for all, and most importantly do it safely.

There is a late venue change following problems with the cattle herd at Top Farm, so please note this Sundays Stratford-Upon-Avon Club trial will be at Saintbury Quarry instead.
Top Farm will still be there to provide the refreshments from their mobile van.
The trial will be the first round of the Dennis Bridges Summer Trials Championship and will include three routes to cater for all levels of ability.
Signposted off the A44 at Broadway, the start time will be 10.30.

Support the front wheel off the ground on a box or over a log etc and spin the wheel. When it spins try putting the brake on and off, if everything is working correctly, the wheel should stop instantly and move easily when the brake is released again.
If the wheel doesn't spin freely, it could mean that the brakes are binding (which could be lever adjustment or a sticking piston) or that the wheel bearings are seized (which is less likely) or that some part of the wheel/tyre/disc is rubbing somewhere.
Let us know how you get on.

Perhaps we should have another option...... Alternative power source.
Maybe oil based fuel is going to last a lot longer than people thought but will we be able to afford it?
A couple of years back, I rode a trial every free weekend irrespective of how far I had to travel. With the price of petrol (and even more-so with diesel) the cost of travelling is simply so high that I only ride in local events. Trials is still excellent value for money but motoring isn't!
Alternative fuel cars will be a common sight in 20 years time (probably well before then) and I guess technical advances in this area will cross into motorsport, including trials.

Well I had a phone call this afternoon from Alison at the ACU who said that only eight people had expressed an interest in attending and they only represented FOUR clubs!
We could all be doing something else I'm sure. At least I can help set out our trial for the following day now.
I'm sure lots of people will use the date, location etc to have yet another pop at the ACU but I for one would like to thank the Trials and Enduro Committee for at least offereing us this opportunity again following the similar lack of support in previous years.
Sadly, this sends the message that we are either happy with all things trials or simply can't be bothered.

Mick,
Do you have enough participants to make it worth running this year? If so, do you know what subjects will be on the agenda?

Does anyone know anyone who is going?
-
A few years back there was an accident on the mountain and we were stopped for some time by the Police at that exact spot. If you've ever looked over that little wall, you know just how lucky Sammy was to get caught in a tree.
Fabulous shots, thanks for sharing them with us.

That looks quite good, is it a new shape Alp unit?
Was it difficult to fit?

Well I suppose the forum isn't really aimed at WTC organisers or even BTC organisers as they are having a seperate forum at a different time, so in a way the 21st June is as good a date as any.
Other than through our centres (of via John Collins on TC) we rarely have a chance to put accross our ideas etc, so I feel this is an opportunity that we should take advantage of. If this years forum is cancelled due to lack of participants, then we might never get the chance again.
-
Moto GP Qualifying at Donington too :-(
-
Please see the information below. Last years forum was cancelled due to lack of interest, here is our chance to put our thoughts or concerns to the ACU direct. Lets not miss the chance by being complacent this year.
To: ACU Centres, National Trials Organisers, TMX, Trials Central, ACU Website, Riders & all interested parties
From: Trials & Enduro Department
Date: 21st June 2008
Ref: OPEN TRIALS FORUMS
As previously publicized, an Open Trials Forum will be held at ACU House on 21st June 2008 starting at 10.30am prompt.
Issues relating to the British Solo Trials Championship will be discussed at a separate forum at a later date.
You are cordially invited to attend and put forward any views or suggestions you may have for the 2009 season.
If you have any specific items that you feel should be included on the agenda, please contact Alison Devine at the ACU and we will try to include them on the main agenda.
Light refreshments will be available.
This forum is your opportunity to voice your ideas and opinions and the Trials & Enduro Committee hope it will be well attended.
Attendance at past Forums has varied greatly

HI Liam,
Welcome to TC.
We are lucky in that there are a few places where trials riders can practice in this area, but located near Stratford-Upon-Avon we are probably too far South for you.
My suggestion is to look out for clubs (T&MX News is a good place to start) who have novice and beginers routes usually refered to as the C route (South Shropshire, Stafford Auto). Some clubs even put on whole events just for beginers (Manchester 17?, Stourbridge)
Practice makes perfect, however entering an event which is set out for newcomers to the sport gives you the chance to compare your skills to others of a similar ability and I suspect you will go away from such a trial having made new friends who in turn might possibly know where you could go to practice.
All you will need to enter a trial is an ACU affilitation card (basically a licence-

15 woulkd be good for me!

Yes, I can remember going to a new venue a few years back. After an hour driving around the area and asking at two different petrol stations, we spotted the riders ridfing around the outside of a scramble track.
Turning up late for the start, one of the organisers moaned that we were signing on late, when I commented that a few arrows would have been handy, he replied "there's no need for arrows, everyone knows where ********* scamble track is!"
-
Sadly.... you've summed it up quite well there.
-
I have used them many times in the past and find their service spot on. They are at Coleshill not far from the NEC.
-
Thanks very much for the 'as it happens' coverage
Well done to the Brit lads.

I've done lots of really awkward jobs in my time as a heavy vehicle mechanic, but trying to make a new rim tape seal is easily the most frustrating job that I have ever done.
I know that there's a knack to doing it, but god knows I can't work it out. Of course, each time you think you've got it, the only way to test it is to refit the tyre and pump it up. After the umpteenth time of trying I gave up and took the sealer option.
-
Exactly. But whilst we choose (are forced) to comply with the FIM - at BTC level - things can always get changed with almost no prior notice..
-
I do too. The white and blue works well, in my opinion.
-
Surely you can still adjust the spokes if you seal the rim tape with sealer?
