  1. this might be of interest to you, there's alot of us wondering so i got my mate who is the motul dealer here to email motul directly. his reply: Ref. the Gas Gas 280 TXT 2011 gearbox oil, you can use with confidence our Transoil Expert 10W40. NB: when it states 1999- on our online tool, it means the recommendation has changed since.

    Base Gasket

also check the cylinder studs when you have it off,my front right one chewed the threads out. magnesium cases are soft so used helicoil. that and the new basegasket which is thicker solved the problem. also when youre done retighten cylinder nuts after a couple heat cycles.
  3. update. i replaced the base gasket with a newer version i got from trials uk,it has a silicon bead so suppose it seals better. problem was the front right stud was loose cos the threads were gone in the cases, magnesium is too soft i suppose, had to helicoil, used loctite on all 4 and torqued them down.there was a bad sealing from the reed block manifold also so sorted that too. runs nice now,had me swapping needles and clip positions for ages !
  4. i moded a 13mm spanner today and tightened them but still leaking, the front right needed half a turn which was strange. gonna park it up till the gasket arrives from trials uk. which size gasket do you think i should use ? thanks !
  5. thanks for that info! was gonna try tightening but for some reason cannot get a socket on the front right nut. i thought maybe there is a special tool for it. i removed the water pump but with the hoses still on just to get them out the way. will try again next week and see. thanks again!
  6. hi everyone! 11 280 raga with about 10hrs gentle riding has a leaking base gasket front right area behind water pump. removed water pump and checked barrel nuts but cannot tighten enough with an open end 13mm, is there a special tool? they seem tight, shall i replace gasket or leave as is? it is only very slight leak and saw it cos i was riding in dusty conditions. pls advice. thanks!
  7. if the carb you baught has the extra vertical vent fitting built in,then you dont need to cut a V in the tube.
  8. I see,so a built in T, thanks for sharing this info! i would have been going round in circles with jetting changes still if it werent for you! thanks again!
  9. i did the mod today, didnt cut a V instead i fitted T fittings to both vent tubes and ran another vent. dont know if this was the fix or the drilled drain bolt but after 4hrs on the bike today it ran perfect! thanks for the info guys!
  10. moded? is there any way we can find out what mod they did? thanks!
  11. i see, will give that a go and see. thanks!
  12. so i didnt drill through my thumb for nothing then! i already have the breather tube from the left of the carb routed up and over to the right but the one on the right runs straight down. i will route that one up and over also but can you pls explain the v cut,do you mean a y fitting with one runing up and another down? thanks again.
  13. i think you will prefer the 3 slide,on mine it smoothed out that annoying jurking on steady 1/4 throttle. for me i will try the JJG needle next but the fueling is still a mistery when hopping or on steep decents.
  14. yup tried a 48 a while ago,too rich, had to go out too much on the airscrew. checked float height all good at 20mm. i think i will try the standard needle again and start over!
  15. sorry JJF needle from a JJH which was standard!
  16. its been an on going jetting problem, swapped to a richer 3slide 45pilot 122main FJJ needle mid clip, seemed fine for 20min then fuel starving when hopping or going steep downhill. tank venting ok and no airleaks!
  17. makes sense! thanks, never thought of it that way!
  18. are the two holes on either side of the drain bolt on these carbs ment to align with the two slots inside the float bowl? if this is the only access for fuel to pass into the main jet, then i might have found the fuel starvation problem ive having on my 11raga. i took it apart for inspection/cleaning when i saw this, when the bolt is tight, the holes dont line up with the slots.i made new holes and i will try it tomorrow.
  19. Had exactly the same going on my 2011 raga, after messing about with the pilot, tried 48 and 42,and adjusting air screw, have most power and smooth throttle with no knocking and easy starting with: 45 pilot,1 1/2 out air screw,122 main,JJH needle 5th clip plus spacer as if 6th clip. Its running so good i am tempted to leave as is but waiting reply from a gas gas tech wether to go for different needle richer JJG or JJF which have a smaller diameter or change slide ,now i have a 3.5slide. This is for a kehin28mm PWK. Also sealevel with ~20C. Hope this helps!

    2011 280 raga

It came with a delorto for homologation purposes and a kehin in a box for offroad use unlike say the road reged exc ktms i have which use the same carb on and offhighway use. With those i use a JD jetting kit which is very good. From what i read up on the kehin website i will use a JJf or JJG which is a richer needle instead of a richer main of 122,dont you think going over 122 rich enough? Thanks!

    2011 280 raga

Ok got somewere with the jetting today, Back to 45 pilot 2 turns out airscrew 122 main JJH needle 5th clip plus spacer as if 6th clip Runs strong and clean with no hesitation or burbling. Question is do i leave as is or change to a different needle? Read up on markings for kehin needles but a bit confused! Any advise from the experts appreciated! Thanks!
  22. The whole rod that the spring slides on and the cap screws on!
  23. Havent done marzocchi but the procedure should be the same with other kayaba WP forks. You should have pumped the inner cartridge up and down afew times and add more oil before closing them up. By pumping up and down the stroke of the inner cartridge you bleed the air out and force oil in,check the oil level again when the cartridge has resistance all along its travel, then you know its done properly. Also remember to put your settings all out otherwise too much resistance when doing the procedure. Forks topping out now cos no damping, valving is moving in air instead of oil. Hope this helps!
  24. Hi there! Bit strange seeing cyprus and trials in one sentence! Also just starting out on a 280gas gas,we should get together some time! Ps:also remember the guy having trouble importing his bike but thats on the northern turkish side.
