  1. Weird thing These bikes have the simplest hydraulic brake, but they can be a pain in the aaa......abdomen I spent lots of time getting the rear brake right on my spare Techno, I replaced the master after messing around longer than I should have There is such a small amount of fluid displaced when the pedal is pressed that very minor problems make it not work It's like it works or it doesn't, no middle ground Best o luck
  2. Are you sure it's the caliper?, for a caliper to do that it would leak fluid, there would be liquid in a puddle under the bike More than likely it would leak as you put pressure on the pedal rather than leak down over time I suspect you have a master cylinder problem Again, it would likely be dripping but not very much, look for fluid down there

    Main Bearings

Dumb question but do you have the flywheel and primary drive gear off? Don't hit me
  4. This may sound weird but, I would spend hours and hours on my wheel so I didnt need a tube, I would even do it twice if I had to There's just some kind of sin in having a tube in the tire, a dirty secret Be as weird as having a seat....... I would never stop thinking about it.......but that's just me
  5. Permatex makes a liquid gasket called High Tack Works great, never hardens, clean up with brake clean etc And you can feel free to true your wheel without spoiling the seal

    Rev3 Flooding

Two things 1) You can have spark with the plug out but if you have a weak stator it may not spark under compression The best test is a spark gap tool 2) Old gas might not burn no matter what you do When a bike is flooded, the crankcase has a puddle of fuel in it and it can be very hard to get rid of, this explains why it fires then fouls the plug, if its bad enough you can hydraulic lock it and bend a rod so plug out in a warm room for a day or two usually fixes flooding, kick the bike once in a while to sweep the liquid fuel up from the bottom so it can evaporate Also, flooding is a result not a cause, it's bad sealing of the needle and it will be happening constantly The effect is high fuel height and can make your bike run rich Outlaw Dave's trick is toothpaste and a Q tip to clean and polish the seat
  7. The thing a lot of people do when wheelying is when the front end comes up they start to move forward on the bike This changes the balance point The further fwd your weight is, the more vertical the bike needs to be So, what I am focusing on is keeping my body weight back and keeping it in the same place If you move fore and aft you need to adjust the balance point with every change and it just not possible Now I watch where the pros put their weight When they hop on the back tire, the front tire is not really that far off the ground
  8. Can you give me more info on air gap adjustment Std is 120mm on the spring side, how much do you change?
  9. Ya that was skinny, but maybe we can include a bed or two in some trials next time
  10. LOL, I think it's the first time I've seen mr Finn put his foot down
  11. I think if you put a camera on the lower fork leg it will be too bumpy, I think mounted on the lower triple clamp showing the wheel movement Might be easy to mount off the bottom of the bar maybe I still think on the left hand would be cool, could see the clutch action Cool thing about the hand mount is that you can point the camera where you want to video another rider or the section and then just ride I changed my mind about the go pro, I like the Looxcie HD better, it streams right to a smartphone I could put it on you and turn it on and off with my phone, and stream it directly to Facebook while we ride Or I could stream my video directly to your phone while you sit on your bike somewhere else Cool huh http://www.looxcie.com/products-page/cameras/looxcie-hd-explore/
  12. Just a drop of dish soap and water in a spray bottle Spray the surface and when you put the decal down it won't stick til you squeegee the water out from behind it The soap's only job is to break the surface tension of the water so it sheets on the plastic, you don't need much soap
  13. I agree with Frogger, the other thing I have noticed about myself if that after a half hour or so and a couple of sections I relax and become a better rider, everything gets easier In a trial I fall down and get a few 3s and 5s at the start and a lot more zero's come in the second half Makes me wonder if a good streach before riding would help
  14. That's funny, maybe the section entry arrow cards should say "Abandon hope, all ye who enter"
  15. It's pretty easy to get arm pump, I notice my breathing, my heart rate and general stress level change the second I enter a section If I ever figure out how to breath in a section I will try and focus on my grip LOL All kidding aside, bigger diameter grips are good for me, I get tired hands with the skinny renthal grips I look for big cushy grips, have used street grips in the past
  16. Comment on the fork, spacers only change the ride height, it won't make the suspension softer, you may gain some sag but it will still be stiff For that you need to change the spring
  17. I find that my fork bottoms harshly, I don't know if there is a bottom cushion in the beta fork but I have had a rude shock knock my hand off the bar a couple of times It's not the bike, it's riding style and practicing bike control and body position Probably one of those things the Internet cannot teach you, trials needs a coach Also, a while ago my coach shot some video of me riding sections, it is a big help to see yourself moving on the bike, I see that I'm not doing what I thought I was doing
  18. It's good when the cameramen know how to shoot this stuff, that is a great vid The music was good but I also would much prefer to hear the bike Thanks for posting
  19. That is some old footy there, love it Sometimes I wonder if they had more fun than us back then
  20. BilcO I agree that the NSR was a far better bike, so was the Gamma 500 for that matter I just like the V4 RZ (I guess it was an RD oversees), more of a replica Johnnyboxer, in 83 the KDX 200 came out and was drastically better in every way, maybe look around for one of them instead
  21. LOL, The last time I saw traction like that was at Outlaw Dave's Adrian Brown trial, it was -7c and as soon as the top couple inches of dirt brushed off it was skating rink slippery Sure learn a lot on days like that
  22. By definition "The word classic means something that is a perfect example of a particular style, something of lasting worth or with a timeless quality." I guess the key part of the above sentence is OR I myself am a child of the 80's, cut my teeth on IT175, RD400, the original Katana 1100 and a few dozen others To me a classic is not really a sign of quality, but something that puts a mark on the map of a certain time I think a classic is an RZ500, the original, GSXR, Honda Turbo, the first mono shock YZ, I'm sure there is an example of a trials bike that signified a substantial shift in focus or direction, I don't know what bike that is Looks like classic is pretty subjective, wonder what a 25 yr old guy would list as classic Oh and I was a motorcycle mechanic when the V45 Magna, Sabre and Intercepter were born, and Gawd what horrible engine, they were 5 years of tech bulletins and at least 4 different cam chain tensioners, Honda must have lost their shirt I think the Hurricane 600 is more iconic, it absolutely wiped the 2 stokes and GPZ's off the race tracks the year it came out and I hated the thing when it arrived
  23. LOL it's funny the directions a thread takes Back to the Gopro, I'm going to get a new one but I want to experiment with mounting locations, I wonder what it would look like with the camera on the fork leg or on your left wrist for example, I have seen it over the shoulder mounted on a backpack and that footy looked good too Since these new cameras have come around there is a lot of footy around but it would be nice to see some creative stuff I was thinking about one of those game cameras and set it up in a tree or rock during a trial to take automatic shots when a bike is hitting something
  24. Gawd that pumpkin is disturbing...... The poor bugger who painted that thing must have Lost a serious bet with a gangster You can't even tell the gender of the human
  25. Simply as a point of interest, Yamaha has always factory recommended 100:1 for outboards And nothing has greater consistent loads than an outboard, they pretty much match a Dyno for operating conditions Granted, fairly low rpm @6000 and a pretty effective cooling system but ........
