  1. The insurance issue and bikes being licenced and fully road legal has taken a huge leap forward here in France in recent months. Lights now need to be fitted and documents are more often checked upon signing on.

Bridal paths are classed as public places so bikes would need to be road legal even if the trial only kept to these and not the public highway. I would imagin the bigger multi day trials would have to use these chemin rurals.. to make up the route so finding a trial that you can enter with out ticking all the boxes would be rare. To gain a competiton licence in France you need a yearly medical and if you are a first timer, starting out, you need to take a " bike test" , offroad, to show you are competent.

    Hope that helps

Thanks very much for the explanation, my friend has never ridden on the roads so doesn't have a licence.... At a rough cost of £400 to obtain one just to ride something he may or may not like, is a bit steep.

Not anyones fault, just one of those things :(

Does anyone know if the Andorra 2 day in August requires insurance and road licences?

    Thanks again Metisse

  2. Thanks very much....

All good for me, registered bike, full bike licence.... :)

Not so good for my pals.... unregistered bike, no bike licence... :(

Anyone know of any similar multi day trials that don't involve road work?

    Thanks again

  3. A friend of mine uses his Sidi Couriers for both, not too sure they are waterproof though.

I had a pair of Gaerne waterproof trials boots but I wouldn't want to wear them on the road at any sort of speed, not enough in the way of ankle protection for me.

The Alpinestars No Stop I have now would probably make good road/touring boots with their much better ankle protection although again they are not completely waterproof...

  4. It should be the best decision the SE centre has made, however it's now down the the Clerk of the Course to define/refine what can be ridden non-stop.

There will always be lenient observers and also those that observe to the letter of the law. All the rider has to do is make sure you keep moving, simple really! I heard a rumour the Brit Champs are going this way too.....

    I've heard the same rumour....

With only six riders at some rounds of the British champs, something surely has to be done. Admittedly it could further enlarge the gap to the Worlds, but again doesn't something need to be done there?

Mind you, trying to change the rules when the Spanish are so strong.....?

    :)

  5. well I was talking to Nigel Greewood recently who has been to a 3 day trial in the Italian alps which sounded brilliant. So my current plan if the dates work would be Italian alps one weekend, andorra the next then back home, spend the week in between at a coastal resort in france perhaps.

what do you reckon, could be a brilliant trip !

Now that sounds like a perfect plan.... do you have any details on the Italian trial?

Could even take in Dherby Moto (great guys) and a trials practice area too....

    Heaven!
