How much oil does the TXT50 take in the crankcase?
According to the handbook it says 500cc, but I just drained the oil there was only a small amount. When I filled it again it took about 140cc when it was about 1/2 way up the transparent window.

I'm beginning to wonder is a Gas Gas Boy that I picked up yesterday doesn't like southern air.
I picked up a 2004 Boy yesterday. It started within a couple of kicks and seemed to run quite well at the persons house where we picked it up from. When we got home it started after a few kicks and ran for about 10 minutes before it was time to put it away.
This morning it wouldn't start at all. I tried kicking it with the throttle wide open, closed, chock on and off, but nothing.
I took the plug out and it was wet with petrol so fuel is getting through to the cylinder. Trying the plug on the engine there was a big blue spark, so I don't think that it is an electrical problem.
I took the carb off and blew out all the jets, although there didn't seem to be any signs of water or other muck.
Still no luck after about 20 minutes of kicking, throttle wide open, closed, chock on and off...
Is there a knack to starting the Gas Gas TXT 50 Boy?
Or what other problem could have happened over night?

I went to the Dirt Bike show and saw Dabill's Montesa; very nice. I noticed that there seems to be a lot less wiring around the back of the engine than the standard Montesa.
Do TRW optimise the wiring in some way?
Can if be done to the standard 4RT?
Anyone have any details?

I've used the Castrol oil for about the last three trials and find that the clutch doesn't free until the engine is warm and then you get the 'Honda screech' when the engine is hot. In the engine it seems fine though.
I was going to change it to the recommended oil after this weekend.

A good friend of mine got a new camera a few weeks ago, so I suggested that he came along to a trail and take some action photos. If anyone who rode (or is just generally interested) he's posted them on Flickr.

Thanks for the replies.

Can anyone advise on socket size for the 2006 4rt nut that holds on the clutch basket?
I've tried 27mm, but it seems a bit loose and 26mm isn't big enough. I don't want to round the edges of the nut by using the 27mm because I'm sure that it's at toque setting FT 5.
Many thanks

I like the white mudguards. They are using them on the 2008 RTL in Japan http://www.honda.co.jp/HRC/products/machin...260f/index.html. I've tried to contact a few of the HRC dealers in Japan for the white mudguards, but no replies yet.
Can you buy the white mudguards in the UK, or from a friendly supplier in Japan?
-
I don't know about the Seeley hangers, but I fitted XR400/XR250 pegs straight onto my TLR and RTL without having to change the hangers. I bought them from Off Road Only.

Perhaps the bidder on eBay should do some research before bidding

I was looking on eBay and see that a Classic Trial tank unit for the TLR is going for

I'll PM you some photos of the bike and larger middle box. It'll be early next week.
Generally TLM specific parts they are unobtainable but some bits are common with other Hondas. This takes a bit of research and a friendly HRC off road specific Honda dealer.

I'd agree with Stevel comments about the three seat Dispatch. The bench seat isn't that comfortable especially on a long journey.
Otherwise the Dispatch is an excellent little wagon. It drives like a car, handles well and gives good fuel return. I'd recommend going for the 1.9TD or 2.0HDi as they both have a good balance of economy and performance.
You could do a lot worse than a Dispatch, Scudo or Expert.
-
Hi,
I don't have the Belingo but do have a Dispatch with the 1.9TD engine. It's done over 150k without any problems. I had the clutch done at about 135k and just had the front wheel bearing done, which only cost a little over

Doh... The website is http://www.prox.co.uk.

Mick,
I've used PJ Engineering to rebuild my RTL and TLM engines. Paul really knows his stuff and he was able to sleeve the TLM and then rebore it to the old piston. They also offer a very good postal service.

Thanks Eddie.
Does it start at 7:30pm as normal?

I'm not sure if this is quite the right place to post this question, but I often got to Swindon District website to look at the schedule of their upcoming club trials. However, some bar-steward has hacked their website and I don't know when their evening trials are happening.
Also, because I'd normally look at their website for contact details I'm stuffed again!!
Does anyone know the dates and start times of the up coming Swindon District evening trials?
(I'm assuming that they are at Hannington)
Many thanks.

Does a Honda TLR twinshock qualify for class 8?
I thought that the Sammy Miller Trials were for twinshocks that were of Spanish manufacture, but the regs don't seem to indicate this...

I've got a twin disc RTL and TLM and both of them have always had cr4p stopping power from new. Over the years I've tried different brake fluids from DOT 3 to DOT 5.1 and even DOT 5. I'm currently using DOT 5.1 because it seemed to give the best feel at the controls.
Now that the pads are unobtanium I've been making my own. Although they work the stopping efficiency is abysmal. I've been using old car pads so I assume that the material is designed to operate at a much higher temperature than the trials brakes will ever reach.
Anyway, does anyone where I can get some good friction material to make brake pads from?
Many thanks

I understand that Alan Wright is running a Classic Dirt Bike show at Stoneleigh in February. Can anyone give me more information, like when, how much, what time...?
Many thanks.

I think that the Classic series is an excellent day out and I've been doing them regularly since 1999. Unfortunately, I missed many of them in 2006 due to work and then a illness, but I do hope to do more of them this year.
I introduced a couple friends to the Tavastock trial (one that I did manage to do this year) and now they want to do them all during 2007. I'd describe one of them as and average intermediate. Best of all he likes the ride out with wide variety of sections, rather than just ten round a car park. He really likes the Bembrose and Dave Roland on the clubman course and is normally in the middle to bottom third of the field.
I think that this year with having the two most northerly rounds and a couple of the southern rounds together is a brilliant idea. Coming from the south I find it just as frustrating as Dabseter, travelling four hours to Mansfield, having a silly five and knowing that you're not going to be able to pull back those marks is really frustrating.
I only wish that they wouldn't put the Hillsbrough and Peek on consecutive weekends. Although both are excellent trials I really can't be bothered to do eight hours of travelling two weekends in a row. Even my friends, who got really keen to do the Classic trials, couldn't be bothered to do them both.
Give it a go, I'm sure that you won't regret it...

Motomike,
I was just about to get a pair of alloy body Falcon shocks (as a Christmas present to myself), but after your indication of a change should I wait for a good change or buy them quickly because it will be a bad change??
Also, where can I found out more details about Rockshocks?
