  1. I had the same thing happen on my 2006 4RT, but it wore through and bent over rather than broke. I ended up cutting down a long aluminium M6 cap head bolt then turning down the a threaded part to M4. It looks like it's designed for the job and can be replaced in the future. Last time I took off the tensioner I was suprised the wear that the spring was causing.
  2. The kickstart on my 1989 RTL seems to not engage most of the time when kicking it over when cold. When the engine gets up to temperature it is fine. We split the engine a couple of weeks ago. The ratchet and pinion do seem a little warn, but excellent condition for 22 years of service. We replaced all the washers, springs and collars, but it seems to have made no difference. Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on?
  3. I've used Brook Suspension (http://brooksuspension.co.uk/index.html) to remove the expansion tank and rebuild a Showa RTL shock..
  4. I've just phoned Paul at PJ today about fitting a CRF piston to the 4RT. The replating part of the job was
  5. I heard back from MSM today and they will only insure a bike if it is road registered. I'll follow up with Carole Nash, as that's who I have my Montesa insured through.
  6. Thanks. Had a look at their website which says the bike needs to be registered. I've sent them an email enquiry.
  7. Does anyone have any advice on insuring a Beta 50? Obviously it
  8. You will probably find it cheaper to have the cylinder relined than buy a new one. I used PJ Engineering (search them on Google) to reline my RTL cylinder and they did an excellent job.
  9. The Sporting Motorcyclist has entry forms in the South Eastern, Southern and South Midland centres (many regional restricted across all three centres). It cost
  10. I understand that the regulations are available for the Colchester traditional national in February. Does anyone have an electronic copy of the regs or know where I can down load a copy?

    Revs sudden drop

Could be as it was quite wet through one section. I'll check the air filter and air box for signs of water when I clean it during the week. Could it be potential symptoms to anything else?

    Revs sudden drop

Several times today the revs suddenly dropped on my 4RT while I was sitting in a queue waiting to go in to a section. The bike seemed ok all the rest of the time but I've never noticed it before. Is it a symptom of something waiting to fail?
  13. Agree Jordi. I'll be the same for me. About 1200 miles with overnight stops over 2 consecutive weekends. I just won't be able to afford that at the moment. I haven't done the whole series for the past two because of events on consecutive weekend above Birmingham. I did travel with my mate who did the whole series to save some cost. However it's better than last year for the lads south of the midlands.
  14. Thanks for the link. I was most interested in the Traditional series. I'm going on a course in February or March and wanted plan it so that I could do the Lancs and Bootle weekend. It's a shame that they've got three Traditional trials over two consecutive weekends again, especially the Bembrose and Lancs/Bootle. They

    4RT ECU RESET

I had some problems with my 2006 model starting first kick. To test the throttle cable I slackened it right off so that the throttle didn't open until about 1/8th of a turn. It did improve the starting but was too slack to ride properly. I eventually tightened the cable until it was ridable but starting wasn't so reliable. . A few weeks later at a trial someone saw me kicking the bike (resetting the ECU with three gentle kicks) and mentioned that I was just opening the throttle slightly when kicking. For a while I got into the habit of putting my hand on the top of the throttle rather than the grip. It took a real conscious effort not to open the throttle when kicking the bike but I've mastered it now.

    4RT pistons

That's OK Jimmy because I don't know who you mean I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Hi Jimmy where was that? I was quoted

    4RT pistons

Thanks for the reply Gizza. The bike is now 5 years old and there is a bit of a timing chain rattle. While I was doing the timing chain I thought I'd do the valve seals. Then while I've got the head off do the rings. The part number NN4 means that it is for the Montsa I think. With my RTL over the years I've found that many parts are similar enough to other bikes. I also remember that it was basically the same engine as the CRF. This is why I asked the question about the rings because the CRF rings are much cheaper. In fact I can buy a CRF piston and rings for the cost of a Montesa rings.

    4RT pistons

Does anyone know if the CRF250 piston rings or piston fits the 4RT? I remember the original Montesa brochure saying that the engine was based on the CRF250. You can get CRF piston and rings much cheaper than 4RT parts.

    ajp front brake

I use an easy bleed kit as well and haven't had any problems in the past (other than getting fluid everywhere when I use too much pressure or it isn't sealed correctly). After your post I'm wondering if the seals aren't seated properly. So any advice on the correct way to ensure that the seals are in properly would be great.

    "my" Rtls

Hi - What is the purpose of this mod? By the way, I removed the tank from a spare 1989 shock I had for my RTL. I ended up using a guy who repared motocross shocks becuase the place I normally take the shock to for rebuilding in Dorset said it wouldn't work. It seems to work just fine. About how much weight do you think you'll save?

    ajp front brake

Sorry I can't help but have the same problem with a 315 front brake. It was just about OK before I put in new seals and pistons, now it's useless. I've tried bleeding forward and backwards, and there doesn't seem to be any air. I'd be interested in any advice as well.
