How different is the new carb set up space wise?. I have not got my 08 yet. Wont be any riding for several months now. People would say the old set up was impossible to work on but I found that if you new what you were doing it was simple and quick. Is there any big difference now?

Not to get personal but how much do you weigh. My buddy rides a 03 Beta and is tipping the scale at 275lbs on a lite day. His shock is far from fully preloaded. We had it rebuilt this past season and the only thing we notice with him is he gets better traction than the rest of us even when he is hanging over the handle bars.
The bike works very well with him on board. Some of his strongest points are logs and smaller steps. Things he had problems with on his 321 Gasser with the heavyduty spring.
Might want to have a quality rebuild done first.

Im not here to bash on Scorpas. I would ride one if you gave it to me. If you dont think they have had any problems you must live in a box. I have seen the stack of rear shocks laying on the shelf that have self destructed.
You also sound like a guy who has heard about Betas but have no real experience with one. Anytime you would like to do a simple carb cleaning on a Scorpa, time yourself, the Beta can be done in under 5 minutes. Takes that long to get to the Scorpa carb.
Beta carb problems, I have none. Stator problems, I have changed one in the last 8 years of Betas I have owned. Within my family there has been 16 Revs and one stator failure.
I would be the last person to say the Beta is the perfect bike. I think they all have there good points and bad points. Seeing as how I get to wrench on all of them I feel pretty confident in my knowledge. Beta is second to none in quality and performance.

If it would help I could write you all about Scorpa problems. Up till last year the US Importer was in my back yard and happens to be a good friend. This set up a situation of Scorpas being the most popular bike in our District which is not very common anywhere else you might ride.
Im not saying there is anything wrong with the brand but there are reasons I ride Beta now.

Any word on the MAVT schedule for 08. I have had some requests to plan our NYS Vintage series around the MAVT series. With only 3 rounds in our series this should be pretty easy.

If you feel you must flush the tranny go for it but.... If you have ever had a motor apart you would notice that unless you pull the clutch apart you will not flush all the old oil out of the motor. All sorts of oil will remain in the clutch plates so you will be mixing oils anyway. Now the clutch plates need the oil to function properly. Getting some cleaning solution in the plates along with oil can actually cause the clutch to work improperly.

The swipe system is not ready for trials yet. Moto X , scrambles, and enduros are the priority now. A trials system is being put together . I think it will be broke in at the club level first.
The system is more than just for quicker sign in. It is a complete scoring system that will allow dirrect download to the AMA to eliminate the after event paperwork.
Ishy, you do not need to get the card this year.

You may be surprised at how much changing the bar position, forward or backward, along with moving the levers will change your comfort with the bike. I have been riding Revs since there have been Revs. I can ride mine all day fine but get on another Rev, not set up like mine, and have horrible arm pump in minutes. I find this true getting on any other bike. If I take the time to set them up for me I can do just fine with them. If I just get on and ride any bike the chances are I wont get along well for very long.
If you can get comfortable with the bars without raising them I would go that route. I fell the bikes handle better with factory rise bars. I have ridden several bikes where the owner raised the bar position and they never work as good as with stock rise bars. The bikes start to fell top heavy in my opinion. Lampkin is a tall guy and if you look at Lampkin bars they rise less than stock. He apparently sees no advantage to raising bar height.

What octane gas are you burning? Betas like good gas.
After you repack the exhaust go do some high RPM hill climbs. Heat things up good. You should not be seeing a smoky exhaust.

Come on out to the trials at the Miller Ranch in Corning, NY this Sunday the 23rd of September. The trials starts at noon. There will be Beta 4T available for test rides after the event along with a big picnic. Should be a good time.
Take Rt. 86 to exit 46 in Corning, NY. Follow the orange and black arrows to the event.

Anyone running a pwk series carb on their bikes. I built a competition vintage bike and used the 200x Honda motor. The bike runs horrible with the stock Kiehen. Every time it gets bounced around under low to no throttle it stalls. I think the carb is all wrong for trials applications anyway. The floats are not even adjustable. After a lot of screwing around with the stock carb I switched to a tlr 200 carb. This made the bike run much more reliable but lost a noticable amount of power. 22mm instead of the 24mm stock carb. Even with different jetting the power does not come back. Swapped in a Delorto from a gas gas after building a adapter. Now this is a 26mm carb. Bike runs quite well now with one minor problem. Going from idle to high throttle or high throttle to idle the bike sometimes wants to stall. As long as you are aware of this its not that big of a deal. A little clutch slipping keeps everything going fine.
I can get a 24mm delorto PHB series I think, just like the 26mm on the gas gas. I have also seen a 24mm pwk series made by BGM. It looks just like the delorto VHST d slide. The scooter people seem to really like this carb and say it gives a quicker response than the stock PHB delorto the scooters come with.
Anyone had any experience with this carb or any suggestions. The bike workes really well and if the carb issue is straightened out the bike will be excellent.

Should be fine. I like 110oct. with Ipone or ELF at 1.5 oz. per gallon. Not looking to start the great gas debate here that just what has worked very well for me over the last 8 years of Beta.

The bike will start to run "fat" like it is overjetted. When you run the reves up the bike will not rev out cleanly up to max RPM. They motor will go flat and not rev to max. A good run down the loop or a hill climb or just a quick ripp on the throttle every once in a while will keep things perfect. I only point this out due to many of the novice ridders here have 270s and never use any throttle. The bikes will lug through almost anything so most riders never really crack the throttle open.
Oh ya, my experience over the last 8 Rev 3s has been they like high octane gas.

At your level with good maintaince, airfilter changes often, tranny oil changes often with a good fully synthetic gear oil, not atf, and exhaust repacking, you will not notice any loss of power over the next 6 seasons, maybe ever. I rode my 01 a while back that has been through 4 other owners since me and with a few adjustments I would ride it in Expert class right now. You will however want to rev it out occasionally. I find that with the sections you will normally be on the bike will load up a bit after a lot of slow lugging around. Kick here up to 3rd, hold the clutch and brakes on, rev her up and then drop the clutch a few times with the brakes locked to bring her back down quick. She should rev clean right up to the top all the time.
