  1. I wonder if someone just left the tank cap loose...

Watch right at the end before Adam starts the bike up again... he's at least checking the cap. Hard to say otherwise though.

In any case he starts it back up and rides off, which I don't think he'd have done had there been some continued threat of a towering inferno ;)

A friend of mine who saw it happen, said the tank cap was indeed loose.

  2. ...

It ran OK but there was one problem in that it came fitted with a side-car (not sure if it was home made or not) and I wanted to ride my bike solo, so I removed the sidecar, after a few rides I'd notice that it wanted to pull to one side even when attempting to go in a straight line, a quick strip down revealed that the frame had been bent to allow for the sidecar.

With the extra brackets and rear loop bit I wondered if the first frame on speshal s bike has been used as a sidecar setup? Also interesting box section swing arm

  3. I doubt that there's room enough for a 13 T sprocket, even a 12 might come to close to the flywheel cover.

My 300RR came with an S3 36T rear sprocket, might be a better idea, or a 38 which is readily available.

  4. Thanks so far;

Any considerations when removing headlight and switch?

How far back can I trace the wiring and cut it out?

The above would involve removing the tank – is that easy? Any tips advice welcome.

Does fuel spill out when “the system” is opened up?

No, the fuel doesn't spill out because no fuel line is opened. You have to remove the complete injector with the fuel tank.
Due to the new lay-out of the fuel line, you have to remove the breather hose from the valve cover.

    The rest is described here:

  5. The things I did when I got my 300RR

    - mount case saver, waterpump and coil cover

    - change rear sprocket for a 43T (best use a half chain link)

    - Change rear brake disc for a Galfer one

    - ad water resistant grease to link, wheel and steering head bearings

follow the instructions in the manual for running in.

    Enjoy!

  6. Yes, but that's another puzzle as to why Honda can't (due to clutch drag) produce a trials bike that will consistently start in gear when they have made millions of road bikes that would.

Strange, I never had problems starting my 2008, 2015 or my new 300RR when its in gear.

  7. So if I wanted a 300RR in the UK, where best to find one? I'm thinking it's probably worth looking abroad, but where would be best? Belgium?  I think they're all sold out in Belgium

Are all European bikes the same?

Are they supplied with headlight and rear lights etc? Seat? Lights yes, seat no in Belgium

Are they power restricted as supplied? yes, in Belgium the are.

Another couple of questions about the 300RR:-

Does it have any sort of 'case-saver' protection in front of the gearbox sprocket? No

Would an earlier saver from a 4RT fit? Yes
