  1. In fact those you've ordered look like they would be a better bet for preservation of the boots :-)

    The main reason I ordered these, is because they have a 10mm set back, so the front of the pegs, is at the same distance as the narrower ones I got now on my Bultaco.

  2. Hi everybody.

    I'm coming over to your quaint little island next weekend.

    I'll be booking a hotel somewhere in Hampshire.

     

    I'll be visiting Sammy Millers Museum among other things. And might go to the Oxford Ixion MCC Trial.

     

    Does anybody have any other tips for me? Places to visit, things to see?

  3. The aluminium hangers are more bulkier, constructed more rigid I think. They usually use a high grade, hard and tough aluminium for such parts. 

     

     I've heard from other aluminium hangers, that caused the frame to crack or brake.

     

    I know my standard steel one bended when I hit a tree stump going uphill (at some speed) on a narrow passage.

     

    Some weld a steel bar to the back of the standard hangers, to reinforce them, but I rather replace or straighten a cheap steel hanger, than having to weld the frame because the hanger wouldn't give.

     

    Then again, anything can happen as demonstrated by diki.

  4. The black one isn't that bad in my opinion, although it could do with some more red, for instance on the part with the "M"  under the seat.

     

    I do like the colorful Repsol, but I'm more fond of the 300RR color scheme

     

    No need to make another version in photoshop though, I'd rather use my cheap imagination, I need my money for something else :-)

  5. I have the same boots and got the same problem within a few months. I have s3 foot pegs and reckon they are the likely culprit.

    What type of S3 footpegs do you have?

     

    Because I've ordered these and hope they don cause the same problem.

  6. Damn that looks bad.

    The weight shouldn't be a problem.

     

    Although the material of the foot pegs looks rather thin, so it wit cut easier through a sole, one would think more people would have this problem because I think it's a common used type of footpeg. 

     

    So as said, try to contact Gaerne first.

  7. I think sometimes the 300 gets a bit overrated on power. It has more, but its not like if you slighty use the throttle you will get shot away. It might even be a little bit more manageable power compared to a 280 e.g.

     

    But I think a 250 is more than good enough, so that will do perfectly fine.

     

    Important skills to learn are throttle and mainly clutch control so just practise that a lot.

    And also (rear) brake control to keep the bike under control   ;)

  8. I have a pair of Gaerne Balanced oil - after approx 3 months of riding once or twice a weeks the soles are holed !!

     

    My footpegs are in decent nick.

     

    Has anyone else had this problem ? I emailed Gaernes website and got no response,What should I get next ? certainly wont be Balanced oils, which is a shame cos they are lovely.

     
    I don't want to be disrespectful but how much do you weigh? 
    A guy in our club, who weighs around 100 kg, wears a pair of Alpinestars out, in about a year.
     
    And what kind of foot pegs do you have? The aluminium ones with grub screws (S3 Hard Rock for instance) like to nibble away at the boot sole.
     
    I also would get some new soles stitched on, if Gearne doesn't want to solve the problem.

    1, Not really, got a Bultaco Sherpa and a long ride kit for my Montesa 4RT, wich is good enough for trail riding for me.

  10. The head steady is the bracket that connects the Cyl. head with the frame

     

    Also check if the condenser is ok, and mount it under the fuel tank instead of under the ignition cover, it gets to hot there and fails, I'm told.

     

    And make sure the clutch doesn't slip. Even the slightest slipping of the clutch on my 350, makes it very hard to get it going.

  11. I also have to agree with B_42Woody and JohnnyBoxer. 

     

    The ABS coil cover I bought needed some work to make it fit and the ABS frame protector got damaged because it was to long and got caught on some rocks.

     

    The original HRC and Mitani carbon parts fit with no problem.

     

    That's why I stick to the real essential protectors as listed above.

    Also, I want to lose weight on my bike not add. And traces of use like some scratches here and there, don't bother me so much.

  12. From what I've read on this forum in the past, ATF oil also makes the action of the clutch a bit sharper.

    Not exactly what you need on a 4RT, unless you're riding in the expert class maybe.

     

    From my own experience I can tell that the GRO Gear Extreme 75W has no negative effects on the 4RT clutch plates or it's action.

    I.m.o. the action is even a little bit softer, compared to the Elf HTX 740.
