I would use the L (low carbon) grade stainless steel. EBC claims a 20% higher friction value when using low carbon Stainless steel. But how does the friction value of stainless steel compare to normal steel? Because the main reason of the re-lining, for most of us, is improving brake power.

That's normal, the right fork leg holds the damper and its adjustments, the left fork leg the only spring and its preload adjuster.

It doesn't seem to be the best looked after bike. Some things to expect on an older bike that's been in storage, or in other words, hasn't been maintained for years: Rusted wheel-, linkage-, swing arm- and steering head bearings. Corrosion in the brake and clutch system. etc. I think it's impossible to say if you should buy it or not from behind my PC. Take someone with you to check out the bike, who knows his stuff.

There are lots of different types of cast iron, not to mention cast steel, all with their specific properties. So comparing cylinder linings with brake material is not a good idea.

I contacted them (InMotion) in the beginning of 2014 and they told me they don't do the re-lining anymore because of risen expense. They did offer me to give me the contact details of the work place were they had them done, but I eventually found someone in France. I'm pretty sure mine's also done with steel liners, and it's a very noticeable improvement over the chrome liner. I do have the intention though, to use EBC or fork lift brake shoe material instead of the Newfren next time, to see if it's an additional improvement.

Testing is usually done out of sight, even sometimes with camouflaged vehicles, you know that, and you also know it's done that way for a good reason. Man, I thought that my emphasis on "IN THE OPEN TESTING" versus "out of sight" was clear but apparently not. Damn this sucks, I'm getting the Dadof2 treatment I think.

I saw your point. But there's a reason why I used the word "some" people in my statement. Just like there are people who appreciate the fact that Vertigo do everything in the open, there are SOME who might be put off by the teething problems. Like my friend. I thought that was clear from the onset, but clearly not. I'll try to be more clearly next time. Or didn't I see your point after all?

Lets hope it's the opposite, I was only basing my comment on the words of a potential buyer, and he might be a minority. We will never know how many potential buyers didn't buy it for some or other reason.

I don't think anybody is criticizing Vertigo for developing such a bike, we only think it might be in their disadvantage doing it out in the open. Perception ( sometimes sadly enough ) influences some people in their decision to buy a bike.

I've just bought this book on the subject (along with the one about the British Two stroke and the one about the Spanish bikes) by Don Morley. Very interesting reading.

All I know is KTM boss said they were interested in making a trials bike, but not for a year or two. And that the GasGas employees were not happy with the visit of KTM to the GasGas/Ossa plant.

I respect them for not offering the bike before it's ready, but there's a reason why manufacturers don't develop their bikes in the public's eye, it makes some customers lose faith in the brand as I said. It' shouldn't, because every new development has teething problems, but it does. There was indeed the problem of adjusting to altitude, and a broken frame at a indoor if I'm not mistaken. Plus the fact that Dabill, after almost every race, was saying he possibly could have gotten better results if they weren't still in the development phase, doesn't inspire confident in the brand either. Just listen to the positive comments Raga is getting, showing of a bike that seems to be ready to take on Bou with no problem. But hey, that's just my opinion, maybe it'll all work out in the long run, let's hope so.

Vertigo should have gotten rid of the teething problems before bringing it out in the open. Some have lost their confidence in the brand because of the problems they had at WTC and indoor events.
