  1. Just a quick update on the long term 330 project. I have now succesfully turned a thread onto some ali for the airbox lid and just need to skim a little off the face to match the original item. I have fitted some wider footpegs. I rode it a couple of months ago and finished runner up on the clubman route to a guy on a new
  2. The guy that posted this comment saw me when I first rode. He told his friend 'There's Steve Bird, he will never be any good as long as I've got a hole in my ar*e!!' (You probably didn't know I knew you'd said that did you?) A year later I was upgraded to Expert and the following year won the club championship. How do you manage without the hole in your ar*e? He He. We've all been there and I'm sure you will get plenty of help and advice. Keep at it and ENJOY IT
  3. Fantastic - NO extension in this picture !! Thanks for posting that.
  4. With the screw adjust right in the clutch did start to push. My friend has just stripped the clutch back apart and confirmed everything is in order that end. He has tried putting a second ball bearing in which solved the problem temporarily. I think the combination of wear on the pushrod, actuating arms etc... and the likelyhood the ball is the wrong size is the problem. The picture of a 'clutch rod extension' in the manual is still a puzzle and possibly a red herring. Just scanned the book - It's the no 11 ???? This is the scan from the Haynes manual. Item 11 is the 'clutch rod extension' In the picture it isn't clear where it goes. Why would you do the rod in 2 sections? I think it may be a mistake.
  5. Good point - There was a slight amount of wear but I didn't think it excessive. Might be worth spot of weld to be sure though.
  6. Hi all, I have been helping a friend rebuild a Model 159 which was bought as a basket case. We have a problem with the cutch at the moment. The arm will not disengage the clutch. It is as if the puch rod is too short. I am fairly confident all the drum, hub and plates were assembled ok. We put the thrust washer in with a spot of grease so it didn't fall before all was assembled and we didn't forget the ball bearing. Looking in the Haynes Manual there appears to be a 'clutch rod extension' It looks like a short piece of pushrod. We haven't got one!! Should we have on for this model? Where does it fit? So at the moment we have as follows - operating arm - pushrod - ball bearing - pushrod end piece (muschroom) - Thrust washer - adjusting screw fitted into outer pressure plate and locking nut. Have we missed something? If so what and where does it fit? Fast response would be appreciated. Steve.

    New Ossa

WOW - Now that is really something different. Interesting to see the contrast in opinions to this bike from the ones on the Sherco bike. Does pose a few questions - Cooling? not only is the Rad hidden will the cylinder run hotter back there? Moving the fuel up front - how will this affect handling. 3 or 4 litres of fuel. Big difference of weight on the front end between an empty tank and a full one - bound to change the handling a little. USD forks. Thought we'd been there and decided no! Stiffer around yokes but will the front wheel / fork brace be stiff enough? - I guess the lack of steering lock that affected bikes like Mont 311 and Beta Zero with USD forks aren't such a problem with the skinny frame on this bike. Can't wait to see it in the flesh and love to ride one.
  9. I'd love to see some better pictures of this bike if anyone has any?
  10. Thanks for posting a bit of an update Wayne. My progress has been of similar pace to your with almost as many 'projects' on the go plus everything else that life throws at us!! I took a heap of pics as I stripped my 330 Engine - If you need any to compare or are not sure of anything just ask. Are you going to rebore? I still need an oversized piston so if you fancy popping over to Bellavista could you bring me one back!! I must put some updates on my thread. The next thing will be to try a new OKO carb I think.
  11. I can only reinforce what Dean has written. I live in Kettering and used to live in Irthlingborough so know the site well. People who use these forums are in the main genuine Trials riders who compete in offical organised events. I understand your concerns and appreciate you posting the warnings.
  12. I think you have the right person John. He had a Peugot 305 van which he bought new and chopped into a pick up truck on the same day. Later on he then built some hideous 'truckman' top for the rear and used to carry a massive Canadian style canoe on the roof!! In later years he had a Blue Transit Van. Both vehicles are still at his house! He used to ride a TY250 out to the sections to observe, the year I went to Scotland when I worked for Martin Crosswaite he had me changing the clutch in the car park.
  13. Hi all, I thought I'd post on here as some of you know me and others may have know my Dad (Mo Bird) through his observing. Dad Died September 24th. He had suffered with heart problem for a number of years and it was this that finally gave up. Dad used to ride himself in the 60's achiving moderate success at club level though he is probably better know for his observing. He was a lifelong fan of the Scottish 6 Day and Pre 65 Trials and made the trip almost every year since the late 60's to watch and Observe. He was well known in the South Midland centre (and Nationwide for that matter) for his strict observing and would observe to the letter of the law which I myself fell foul of on many occasions !! He also observed many World Trials and famously once (rightly so) gave Christopher Camozzi a 5 at Hawkstone park only to be verbally and physically abused be the Frenchman much to the anger and disgust of the large crowd. Camozzi protested the 5 and after the ACU dismissed the protest he went to the FIM who reduced the score. This caused a national outburst of letters to the Press all supporting the observors descision. I found all the paper cuttings about this at Dad's house - I think he enjoyed the attention! Thanks to those who know me and have passed on thier condolences already.

    Montesa Cota 349

I recently bought a 349 chain tensioner from Sandifords through Ebay. It came complete with the swinging arm protector. It was dirt cheap aswell! Give them a call - if they've run out send me an email and I'll give you mine. It doesn't fit my Cota 330. Steve

    Tlm 260 Project

    Can you post some pictures?
  16. Out of interest how do you determine the correct height? Which measurement was different to stock?
  17. Who did you lend your boots to that did the hard riding?
  18. Wow - I really hope that Marc Tessier has bought Scorpa back. I met Marc on many occasions and he is a really genuine nice guy with a great enthusiasm for the sport. Marc and his family showed me great kindness and hospitality whilst we were practicing in France pre season. On one occasion he took us out for a meal with his familiy after taking pity on us trying to cook in the van! I think it was Marc and Andreu Cordina who started Sherco, I seem to remember Paxau joined them later. I have great admiration for what Sherco have achieved since conception. I have been away from the international scene for a few years so I presume Marc is still involved in Sherco. It'll be interesting to see what he / Sherco does with the Scorpa. Scorpa has always been aimed towards average club riders, perhaps Sherco could use the Scorpa brand to market a 'value' bike. Perhaps based on last years Sherco. Oh hang on, there's already one of those called Xispa!!
  19. I've been looking for some results. Any posted on line anywhere?
  20. I like it. It's great to see a manufacturer going in a different direction. I can't wait to see the real thing. The real test of course is how it will ride.
  21. Thanks Sandy. The pictures are great. I bought a bit more Ali on Sunday and will have another go at making a cover when I get the time. At least now I know how to fit the filter.
  22. Hi guys, I am in need of a little help. I have fitted a standard airbox to my bike now but can't find anywhere to buy a filter from. I made my own filter using foam from a spare petrol disc cutter filter I had. The problem is the bike runs really rich especially at the lower throttle openings (up to 1/2 or 3/4). Dropping the needle helped a little but still way out. With no filter on the bike runs clean. Either my home made filter is too restrictive or someone has re jetted the carb to run without one. Could one of you kind fellows that have a 330 post (or email me) some good pictures of the 330 filter, perhaps with some measurements. I can buy a filter from a 242 but as I've never had or seen a 330 filter I don't know if it's close enough. At least with some good pictures and dimensions I can buy some proper foam and make a better one. Once the filter is sorted I can then set about getting the carb right. Many thanks, Steve.
  23. Great point. Sometimes when people ask how to do certain moves I simply can't tell them as I'd never really thought about it! It's only when someone watches you close up that you realise what you're actually doing.
  24. Here's the Dzus fastners - http://www.southco.com/class/81-82-85-dzus...eners-7438.html My old 94 Gas Gas used to have the tank cover held on by just one of these. I'm still of the opinion any fixing should be hidden. Either peg and grommet as original or something else.
  25. Before going in too deep I'd re-check all the basics first. It does sound like carburation. You've tried 3 carbs - all the same. When you swapped them over did you use the same carb top & slide assy. (easier as you don't have to fiddle around trying to change the cable) If so the problem could be in this area. You've re-set the needle? Check you have the needle fitted properly (clip plate holding it down ok?). Are you putting the slide in correctly? For your bike to rev so hard for so long it must have been fed with fuel, air and sparks. Ok so when it's screaming so hard the carbon in the head starts to glow so even taking the cap of wouldn't stop it. But there must have been fuel and air getting in. HOW? - find out and you've sorted it!
