AHH MEMORIES,
i was also at the 1983 SSDT, and being but a yoof, remember dribbling over Bernies brand spanking 350 SWM "Jumbo",
And Eddy's factory Honda
Those were the days, eh!, but whatever happened?, all the World championship contenders used to allways ride the SSDT?, not anymore, it seems.
-
They are only restricted from 2001/2002, the 99/2000 models are "full fat", ie 196MPH
I know, cos i've got one, and, yes, they are reasonably nippy
It allways makes me laugh when some boy racers in imprezas, evos etc, etc try and have a go from the lights or on the road, especially as they become an ever increasing dot in the mirrors by the time i get to 4th (of 6) gears, what fun!!
-
Had an 99& 03, 315, now 4rt.
Tried cr clutch plates, they're crap!, no better than standard, get the sureflex or mitani ones, they are much better.
Also, use silkolene pro7SRG oil in it, it helps, is recommended by sandifords, and is half the price of ELF HTX740, WHICH IS ALSO GOOD.
bOYESON REEDS WILL SHARPEN UP THE POWER DELIVERY, IF THATS WHAT YOU WANT
Never bothered myself with boyesons, its got plenty of "go", as it is.
FOR FUEL/ OIL 70 TO 80 TO 1 WILL BE FINE, BUT IT IS VITAL THAT YOU USE SHELL OPTIMAX, TO STOP THE DREADED "kNOCK"
If your bike is 03 or 04, it will allready have the straight muffler tube.
Standard gearing is fine, if anything, maybe go up 2 teeth on the rear sprocket. if you want 1st gear to be a bit lower, for ultra tight/ slow stuff.
Delta links only raise the rear end a little, i don't seee any advantage in using them.
More important to clean your filter after every trial, change the engine oil after 6 outings, check coolant and check linkages, as they will need taking apart for greasing (silkolene red grease works for me), regularly.
But, above all ......................HAVE FUN!!
-
As advised check airbox first for cleanliness, check coolant level also, low means no maintenance, check also brake pads, all shock linkages should have grease and very little play. also check the inner side of the silencer for wear from the wheel. Check for the obvious bent levers, wheel bearings etc. Ask yourself "does this bike look like its been looked after"
As for the clutch, sureflex plates and silkolene pro SRG7 oil, or, if yer feeling flush, Elf
If its good nick, buy it, if not walk away, there are plenty of good ones out there
-
Had a 99 and an 03 315. The 03 was a vast improvement in the carburetion stakes, I would advise an 03 or 04.These, imo are the best model to go for
-
It must qualify as an antique!
The bike that is, not big john!
Only kidding Mr M, hows the 4rt going!
-
In my humble opinion,
1 yes
2 YES, LESS ENGINE BRAKING AT LOW REVS, FOR ONE, SLIGHT MID RANGE BOOST AS WELL
3. Damn caps lock, er see above
4Havn't tried the throttle body, so, er, pass
5I still have the tail pipe restrictor in place to keep the "bark", bearable, take out the front two.
Hope this helps
-
Well he won't be rebuilding the trials bike in the hallway anymore!!
Congratulations!
-
Only if it backfires!
Keep it in, theres no advantage in taking it out
-
I must be hallucinating!!!
3 pages of posts,
And the guff's havn't mentioned 1966
Swoon
-
|I would rather it hit that rubber guard than my cases.
I'd rather it never came off at all, but you never know>
I'v also seen a home bodge of stainless 90 degree plate, attached to the two bolts behind the sproket, extending round the front of it.
-
Is that not classefd as "sacrelidge"
-
It goes under the bottom fork yoke.
its only a steering lock, and a light weight trials bike could easily be lifted by the front wheel
To be honest, you would be much better off with a large Abus padlock & chain, and lock it to something solid!
A baby listener in the garage is also a reasonably cheap solution!
Failing that, get a hungry rottweiler!!!
-
Silkolene, pro SRG 75, AS RECOMMENDED BY SANDIFORDS. You will notice a difference
imo, THE PJ1 doesn't last long
Elf htx740 is also good, but dear at
-
~Yep, that was me
The exhaust definitely reduces the braking effect of the closed throttle.
I began to doubt myself, but having switched back to standard, it is true!
Saying that, ...i still manage to stall it on a closed throttle
But thats cos i'm crap!!!!
-
Hmm, food for thought!
I have a 200 fantic in the shed, about 80% complete, plus another rolling chasis, and two large boxes of bits, bottom ends bodywork etc, etc.
It currently homes a large and impressive collection of spiders, so if you see a load of 200 bits on ebay, you'll know who it is.
BTW, which parts are unobtanium for 200's, apart from good flywheel casings!!
-
Galfer are pretty good, fitted as standard.
-
saw one on a mont last year at the ssdt.
I think that's the last place you would want more weight, over the front wheel!
-
"JCB JARVIS", copyright, Bigfoot, GETS MY VOTE!
SSDT 05, just about every section he was at, he was gardening, including one occasion where he just manouvered a circular boulder, abot 2 foot diameter out of the way!!
I'm surprised he doesn't carry a fold up shovel in his back pack
Seriously though, it is pretty galling when the clubmen have to battle through sections, and the top boys, who would probably clean it anyway, feel the need to give themselves every advantage, by cheating, because that's what it is. I'm sure that if the observers were to give them a 10 point penalty, and enforce it, they would think twice!
-
It could be one of the following:
A) Remote reservoir for the rear shock (unlikely, given that it's next to the (Hot) cylinder)
Fuel pump
C) oil breather catch tank (unlikely)
D) NITROUS OXIDE
E) An elaborate hoax!!
-
Boofont, You're a Massochist!
-
I used to have a fibreglass tank on my old sherpa. I tried all of the above methods, without success.
the problem is that the fibreglass resin is NOT fuel resistant.
I eventually bought a plastic tank. No more problems.
I know it doesn't help your predicament, but i wouldn't hold out much hope of this repair job having a happy ending!!
-
I would say "NO".
A guy who does trials with us has yet to finish an event, due to his easy breaking down, he has only been to three events.
He might just be unlucky, but i havn't seen him out on the bike since!
Another has the SY (boofont), and has no mechanical problems whatever in the last three years.
Save the pennies and buy an SY
-
i'M WITH LUDDE,
Get a mitani header pipe, it gets rid if the third brake (when you close the throttle)
Although i am guilty as charged of buying "bling" for my 4rt, and lots of it, it doesn't need it, i just like it, and it's different!!
Of course you never see blinged up gassers/ shercos etc, of course you do. It's called personal choice!
I suspect that secretly you want one!!
5 grand, try reading the post again, he's considering a second hander, about three and a half grand, or the same as a new, smelly stroker.
My advice would be .....try it, if you like it.....buy it.
I must admit that it DOES take a bit of getting used to, and the clutch action is a bit on/ off for my liking, but i, personnaly wouldn't go back to a stroker.
