  1. Hi all, do any of you good people know which size rear sprocket i can run, with a 102 link, renthal r1 chain. Currently, gearbox is standard 10 rear is 41. I don't want to go too low on the gearing, and was wondering what length chain the guys running 44t rears are using. If i can't run 44 with this size, i will settle for 42,43, as it's a brand new chain, and i don't want to buy a new one! Cheers.
  2. Did you notice any difference (power wise), with the middle restricter in? I,thought the bike seemed smoother at the bottom end!
  3. Hello all. Does anyone out there know of a later model fantic rear end (swingarm, wheel with disc brakes etc), which will fit a 240 fantic. I realise that this would probably be from a monoshocked bike, however i am planning on fitting twin shocks. i am sure that i have seen this done before (possibly by Bill Pye) Any ideas Thanks
  4. Alternatively, keep you looks, save yourself 3rd degree burns, and buy a new pipe!!
  5. Ludde, I have the front pipe only (mitani titanium), but, as i have been waiting for my wheels to return, i have not tested it yet. ThE titanium pipe has a larger bore and I have been told that this is good for smoothness at low revs. I can't see the tailpipe making any difference to the power characteristics, and suspect it is only for show and to reduce weight (looks good though). I will post again, when i have tried the bike out with the new pipe, and let you know of any detectable differences. This may take a week or two. Merry Christmas!
  6. Yeah marky, very nice mono!, Well done. That must have taken a while to get it so good, tracking down parts etc. If my fantic turns out half as good, i'll be delighted. (If it turns out at all, i'll be surprised!!) Don't know about you, but i find it extremely satisfying taking an old negleced bike and restoring it to it's former glory. Find it almost theraputic!
  7. OK gordon, will see you next time you're at duck wizards. Could you possibly fin out how much (roughly) it will be. Cheers
  8. Stick them on ebay Ishy, it'll pay yer SSDT entry!!, I've just bought a complete fantic 200, (with spares) for not much more than that!!
  9. Saw a set of original fantic 240 sidepanels (brand new) on EVIL BAY. Current bid of........... (hope your sitting down) *
  10. Many thanks kind sir! Have you made some?. Just curious, as a i don't have a lathe. Anyone with a lathe (and the skill to use it) want to make a few bucks!
  11. In order of personal preference 1 Michelin 2 IRC 3 Dunlop. To be truthfull, i have had dunlops on since May (SSDT cheapies, courtesy of boofont), and at my level haven't noticed much difference to the michies. My plug is also slightly sooty, possibly due to over oiling the airfilter. The plug is still the original. The manual says to use engine oil, but the filter is so exposed, and seems to atract cack i'll stick with filter oil and just use it more sparingly.
  12. Your local bike shop should have a "bearing puller!,for headstock bearings or if that fails, a large chisel between the bearing and the bottom yoke works well. But don't go mental with it, take it easy, working your way around the bearing a bit at a time, and the tapered point of the chisel will gently force the bearing from the yoke. Try not to aim the chisel directly towards the stem, but at a 90 degree angle to it (but under the bearing)The second method will require replacement of the bearing and lower sealing washer. I took one off my fantic stem last week, it took 2 hours, and afterwards discovered that a spare set of yokes from a 241 which i had, which already had the bearing removed, was exactly the same (correct measurements) DOH!! Good luck
  13. Blimey, that's impressive. The face plant off the log looked painfull though!
  14. The trellis frame is certainly an original idea for a trials bike, Roll on the new 240, if they build it!! (it will probably be in the shops before my 240 is finished, at this rate) Talking of which, sorry to change the topic and all, but does anyone know of a supplier of phospher bronze swingarm bushes for a 240, or do you have to make them yourself. Ta
  15. Some high performance roadbikes suffer from clutch slip if fully synth is used. Many dealers recommend semi synthetic instead.
  16. quote:Lovely pic. Excuse my ignorance, what bike is that please? It looks like an Anmstrong 310 or 320 (I could be wrong)to me, with a youthfull looking Mr Saunders aboard! I still have a pair of alpinestars like that, in perfectly usable condition (they don't make em like they used too, moan...grumble...)
  17. Ideal for a bit of pre-65 action!!
  18. Who is this mystery man....The King of Bling! He must have shares in Mitani!! That's a beauty, If it were mine, i wouldn't want to get it scraped or bashed.
  19. Many thanks for that Spud plark, i will have a look at the bike tonight, and see how bad it is. But its good to know that it is Fixable Thanks again.
  20. When i stayed in that, there London town, (early 90's), i used to see a guy commuting on an nr750, around Fulham I think it was the famous (at the time) snooker player..Steve James? What a waste of a great bike. With the tall 1st gear, he must have been going through clutch plates weekly....What a waste of a great bike. Even back then, it made 916's look common (which they were). Go on Gordon, don't be tight, just buy it, your loaded (and then give me a shot...please)
  21. I was interested in a cheap montesa 310 (circa 1990ish), however,it has a goosed ignition system, (stator plate etc.u/s ) and according to sandifords, the motoplat parts are pretty much "unobtanium", as motoplat wint T8ts up a good number of years ago. Does anyone out there know of any suppliers of motoplat bits. Also have any of you had one of these bikes, and, if so , what like are they? thanks
  22. Good idea that, doogle, My old 315 (03) mesh was stuck to the -plastic with what looked like araldite glue, and lasted for two years of abuse. Tell me Doogle, where did you get it from and what guage mesh did you use, i think i will try it on my 4rt,as the filter is getting filled with cr*p much quicker than my 315 ever did (probably also due to the open design of the filter box). Thanks in advance
  23. Go on gordon, buy it. It woul;d be handy for taking some sarnies round the next trial. Just zip tie it to your handlebars.
