    OKO not OK!

Wish I could find a Section for 50p and 3 Barrs bottles!!!
  2. @fourex I would be very interested in how well it works for you. I was considering doing a similar modification on my 309.
  3. I don't ride regularly enough any more but you always used to see the observers week in week out and I considered them friends as much as the guys you ride with. I would always try and have a chat and says thanks each time round. Not wishing to be too controversial but I wonder if it's a north/south thing as well? I'm a southern born and bread but I've just come back from a week in Yorkshire with my inlaws and I would say that drivers were generally less pushy and almost always acknowledged if you stopped for them, which rarely happens around where I live!
  4. Being and engineer and taking great pleasure in developing my own bikes I couldn't agree with you more Spen. Electric is all witchcraft and black magic to me!
  5. Needs more people with that approach.
  6. Trials bikes have never really been trail blazers when it comes to new technology most of the major changes have happened after it has already been proven elsewhere in the industry. Within the constraints of the ICE as the power source the only real big change I can see is using the engine as a full stressed member and doing away with the frame. I can’t see anyone doing this as it’s too far out of most people’s comfort zone and would probably not sell. If they wanted to really rock the boat then development of direct induction two strokes to help clean up the image of the sport would be interesting but I can’t see any of the current manufacturers having the resources to do this. In reality the only big change I can imagine is likely to happen, is the move over to electric bikes. As has been said it would keep the tree huggers and NIMBY’S happy as you won’t be using petrol and you’re barely able to hear them.
  7. I've seen them but can't locate any in the UK.
  8. Does anyone know what type of plastic the original Yamaha mudguards are made of?
  9. Does anyone know of a good source for Fantic discs with the 6 bolt mounting pattern as used on the 305, 307, 309 and Kroo, or an alternative that can be made to fit? Or does anyone one know the PCD and pattern offset for them?
  10. The guy I used to garage with at the Manx had one of the folding trailers very neat and folded into a very small space, he could fit it folded in the back of his car! Having looked at the prices they are 2-3 times the cost of a normal trailer! I was hoping to take my bike to Yorkshire over Christmas and try and take in an event up there without having to take two vehicles. I will try and borrow a trailer.
  11. I was thinking of using a bike rack but reading this thread got me thinking and investigating a bit more. Our Mazda 3 is only rated at 75Kg. By the time you've added the weight of the rack, bike, lighting board, ties etc your going to be mighty close to the cars limit. Even with the limits imposed on towing for newer drivers (750Kg) a lightweight 3 bike trailer is still well within the limit. Only issue is where to store a trailer.
  12. We had thought of that was well. By the time we've brought the end can and materials to modify both bits to make it fit we will have spent almost as much as the two piece system! To be honest my dads getting on a bit now and is not so interested in doing a project just wants a bike he can manage, he can start the TY without any problems.
  13. Always take spare leavers, link for the chain, pads and spare cables. Apart from leavers never used any of it. Bodged the throttle cable on the van when the end broke off with lock wire and cable ties!
  14. The bike is too loud especially for the local trails. If we can identify the header as being the WES/Sammy Miler one then we should be able transfer that to the twin shock frame with a new two piece rear pipe which will hopefully be quieter! It's a one piece unit on there at present.
  15. The frame is a one off mono shock we believe made by WASP best know for their sidecar motorcross frames. It was a prototype/concept that only ever got loosely put together somewhere around the mid 80's. The idea being much the same as the Majesty in that a standard TY would provide all the main donor parts. My dad started to put it together as a step up from a Whitehawk 80 for my brother about 25 years ago. At the time there was very little choice in the terms of mid sized bikes in th UK. As with all projects like this where you are finishing off someone else half stared idea it hit a fair few problems and before it was completed my brother had moved onto one of the first 125 aircooled GasGas. My dad is in the process of putting everything back onto the original twin shock frame to use that as a run around/ trail bike. The pipe was definitely brought but we can't remember from where. The heat shield was made in house. I'll try and get some wider shots but might struggle for space.
  16. My dad is sorting out his TY175 and we're looking at exhaust options. He has the original system and what we think is a WES system. This comprises a front section which fits to an alloy mid box without the extra end can. It looks similar to the system on the Sammy Miller site but the front section is not stainless. Does anyone know if these used to be made with a plain steel front section?
  17. Interesting, it looks the same on the outside as the one on my 309 but it only has a simple parallel perforated tube running through it. I ended up making a tool to try and help push the packing material in but was never very pleased with the results I got. I ended up buying a WES silencer at least you could repack it reasonably easily.
  18. The only reason they say it’s not suitable is due to the problems of making sure all oil residue has been removed from the tank. They don’t want negative reviews or feedback saying the product didn’t work and fell off the inside of the tank. The problem with a wet layup polyester CSM (chopped strand matt) tank is that the inside surface is usually very course and often quite porous. If it’s had premix in it can be quite difficult to clean the oil residue out. There are cleaners/degreasers that will do it but they are far too aggressive to use on polyester resin. All the good tank liners like this are modified pheno epoxies of one type or another. Epoxy resins are good adhesive and it will stick well to clean polyester resin tanks as well as to themselves. If you have enough clean area it should still work but if you have any larger areas that aren’t fully cleaned there is a chance it will break away after a while. I have never used them but these people do tank repairs as well as selling kits to the public they might be able to advise. http://www.tankcareproducts.co.uk/
  19. Denisesewa, that is one very nice special. Sorry I completely missed you posts back in December. The parts we make at work are aircraft parts so finish is dictated by the customer. The stuff I make for my bikes depends on the bike. Most of what I make is for classic race bikes. Although we are allowed to use carbon we can’t use it in its raw state so it is always painted. Stuff for my modern bikes tends to be straight as it comes from the mould, function over form I don’t want to add any unnecessary weight!
  20. Any chance of a picture of the whole silencer? What version of the coach is it from?
  21. Any master cylinder will work with any caliper, it's only a simple hydraulic system. The thing to look for is the bore size of the master cylinder. Changing the bore size will change the power and feel of the system.
  22. I would agree with dabster in that where you are based ie the type of surface you are normally riding on can have an impact. On the often slick surfaces we get, a good edge to the block can make a difference. My personal experience is that the improved grip drops off relatively quickly as the edge initially wears. After that it a much more gradual drop in grip. At the end of the day unless your really trying to win I would only change the tyre when it starts to get hard or really badly rounded. The tyre then becomes just another element of that search for grip that is most heavily influenced by your riding.
  23. One thing to bear in mind with pressures is that different gauges can read quite differently. Experiment with different pressures until you get what feels best for you with your pressure gauge.
