Hello Ship ,how's it going ?
Well not rode since the start of the second week of October due to being stuck at work through bad weather.
Got off last Saturday afternoon only to endure a 15&1/2 hour boat journey in 25 foot waves .Sick as a salty sea dog .
Now stripped GasGas down and removing a partially dis assembled motor from the frame .
Bore Good.
Piston and rings good
Little end,slight play,
Big end no play or noise,
Mains no play but starting to make noise,
When you consider it's almost 14 years old and there's no evidence what so ever of prior dis assembly ,
that's bloody good!
Photo's to follow.

Hello sjmlancs. Notice a theme here of smaller capacity. I came back to trials from road racing 2 stroke 250s 2 years ago. My current bike is a 2000 GasGas 280 and way to powerful in some situations for me .
I'm dropping capacity in January and i'm looking at a year 2010 Gas Gas 200 and putting a 225 conversion on it . Unless you built like a brick **** house i would say nothing more than 250.You don't want outright horse power like in racing .You need to be the master of the bike not the other way round.Like i really had to tell you that.
Keep us posted.
Regards Ted.

Oh yes and only with good stuff as they sure do have an appetite for filling it full of combustion particulates and peeing it out everywhere too.Just done the belt, tensioner, idler and water pump as well as the filters.

Just bought a 2006 1.6 HDI partner MPV.
First car i've had with well under 100,000 on the clock.
Well it's brill. You can here yourself think whilst driving it and as long as you keep it around 70-75 MPH it returns about 46 MPG.
Plenty of room for the bike and stuff and family members as well.
that garage door arrangement at the back makes loading a doddle.
£300 insurance,£140 a year road tax, tyre's you can afford and relatively cheap service equipment.
After driving my 1998 1.2 petrol Clio with 194,000 miles on the clock, pulling bike on a trailer, it's great!

Incidentally, something some of you may not realize with moto GP bikes and the way they work.
Compaired to converted road bikes they have a lower frontal area and the whole thing is considerably smaller and engineered to do a job . It is in-fact in theory and design, more of a tool than a bike. The operator uses that tool to go fast.
As for the leg out job , leaders lead, sheep follow, that's my theory anyway.
Who invented the knee out style?
Barry Sheen ! The knee slider or even leathers that had any real protection weren't even invented either.
Neither Sheen or Roberts used their Knees to prop their bikes up at that time (1973-74)but to pull the bike's of that time over as they were brutes to say the least.
See if you can find pictures of an OW31(TZ750D) just to get an idea of the technology which they worked with back then.

I also think the money and the past don't matter to Rossi. Maybe JB has been passing data to the Lorenzo camp and Rossi's found out hence his actions.Maybe not .
What you are saying there colinf maybe the truth too. What a bloody awful realization that must be if that's it.
What ever ,something 's not right and that's a shame .
-
How bizzar! i only looked at this post just now and prior to reading this said exactly the same thing! Yes deffinatly a Rossi fan but understand that out there there's others trying to get to the top too.The new boy's are dull though, but no doubt they've got the tallent.
Totally agree with what you've said .
-
Hello woody and Eddie. Real vallid points them.Be a massive turnaround for Ducati if they pushed Yamaha and Honda.
Eddies comment made me laugh and agree with it . Should Rossi have a turn around i think he might be in the run for the championship but also think the bone sticking out of his leg incident dented that dominance no one could penetrate .
If he ended his carrier finishing in the top three, i think ,bearing in mind the ball's out quallity of riders he's up against, well thats not to shabby at all.
Maybe then he will grow a brain and come to trials! What say you !

Where in St Anns do you live as i live in Thornton-Cleveleys but at the moment im still at work because of the weather. Mail me .
Don't jump to conclusions ,they can be un-necessaryly costly.
Start with good fuel.
Remove fuel line ,is there fuel comming through to the carb when at the point of cut out won't start. If yes ,remove plug.
Is it wet after a bit of kicking over ? If so you know you are getting fuel and therefor eliminated two faults ,Quallityof fuel and it's supply.
So on with the ignition. No spark ? Stick a new plug of the correct type being the cheaper option than coil etc.Keep going untill you come across the problem(s)

Hello toetoe.I too am 51 in december .This year is my first full trials season since being 16, and did half a season when i was 30 ish.Got a steel pin in my shoulder and a couple of years ago ,i had a hellish accident at Val Du Vienne racing circuit in France . Came back to trials .
I agree in the most to what people have said above . As regards to the Mont, i know two guys who ride week in week out and they couldn't be more different. One regularly maintains his bike ,but the other has had his bike for three years and simply changes the oil once a year and keeps up with maintenance if it's needed . To put a point to it niether suffers brake downs and the quallity of the bike shines through.
Just don't make the mistake of buying something to big . I have a gas gas TXT 280(not the Pro) and some times you've got to be careful with the throttle or it's away with you and can be bloody unplesant.
I'm actually going to buy either a 200 Beta 2 stroke or a 250 Beta 4 stroke. Keeping my Gasser though because just can't bare the thought of some git ruining it after i've worked hard to keep it nice. Keep us posted .

Watched the Valencia race today . Bearing in mind whats gone on during the last three seasons . I've said this before on here , theres something not right in the Rossi camp. I think he still wants to win and stand by what i said earlier as regard to his competitive spirit.
He's still a top five finisher and nearly always top ten .To think in quallifying he was 300ths of the polesetters pace .Can't call that slow. Not as quick but Lorrenzoes bike slower than the Hondas of both Pedrosas old bike and Marquezes new V5. Rossi was there with them probably on a bike that now gets lesser stuff than Lorenzo and maybe Geramy Burgess don't or can't get the same treatment as he did from Yamaha before . Japs are funny buggers when you've stuck one up there hoop and maybe they know they've more milage from Lorenzo so have stuck it back up the hoop of Rossi and his team. Compound all that to his age and maybe there's an answer.
Just don't understand why Cal Cruchlow has gone to Ducati (cash being the only thing )as he beats them regularly on a satalite bike .
-
Hello Zippy. The bike looks brill . How's it go compared to your old bike?
Ted.
-
Hey there a great find . Nowt wrong with protection as long as it does its job. Got a pin and screws in my shoulder and had i not had protection on my injury would have been worse . But i'm very conciouse of hurting my knees and elbows so think i'll be having some of these.
-
Quick one for not damaging your clutch assembly . One old steel clutch plate,a piece if strong flat bar, measuring tape and a file . Measure 5 cm from the end , bend in a vice to 70 degreesish . Measure gap between the basket blades .File your bar back to that measurement . Cut the measured end back so you can get into the space where the steel goes . Have a 30 cm long handle . Take it to the nearest place with a mig and get them to weld it .
You can then undo and tighten the center fastner to the correct torque measurment without air tools, without stripping threads or any other problems .
I bought a clutch tool recently and its got the strength of tin foil . So i made my own .

Hello dodof2.Hows things?
A tangled web of politics no doubt ! Rossi has a winning streak in him and is fiersly competative .
Without a doubt he knows he 's not the fastest,or as fast as the younger lads, hence his comment " the sharks smell blood and they're comming ", but that does not stop you winning races or championships.
He has an ambition to get those final championships or G.P wins ,can't remember which, to put him on par with Agostini.
Look at Rossi's character! Larger than life ! Marques ,Pedrosa ,and to an exstent Lorrenzo. As bland as white bread, corporate hush surrounds them and who's been the person they've imatated, Rossi !
How many fans wrote Carl Foggarty off when he went to Honda ? After all,the biggest motorcycle cartel in the world had to do something to stop him.
Control ,control .Thats why Rossi left them .He will have his reasons ,i agree.

Probably as much from Sponsorship and gifting,as they're paid by the factory.Remember they arn't just given bikes ,they are usually leased from the company(don't know about trials but definately with Honda road racing) and need to be paid for by the team as part of a deal, which includes the riders share of coporate sponsorship and the riders own sponsors cash . So yes a myth ! As i will stick by,they may not be making but they sure ain't loosing .A quick tale of woe from when i was a kid .(Yawn)
Stood at the Marlboro fag chuck waggon in the pit's at Cadwell park.My uncle is just paying for some fag's when up walks Barry Sheen . He said hello to us ,no fuss ,asked for fags and walked off without paying. Our Mick says "Why's he not paying"?
Answer " Because he's one of our sponsord riders"! Just because he poses in a picture smoking a Marlboro fag.HRC ,Marlboro ,Repsol all the same. They flog it ,we buy it .They benefit.

Hello lads and lasses in Gas Gas land .
Today for my Gas Gas i bought this lot for it's scheduled rebuild.
-
Devils advocate here! Whats available and what you see is what you want . If something akin to an overbored XL185 engined trials bike with basic technology became available, how many of us would buy it ?(What do you mean we already did)!
How many realize Honda's wanton domination of the motor cycle world?
They may put out a myth they don't make money from the trials scene , but i'd like to bet they don't lose it either. Don't forget their business don't revolve around one bike scene.
Great subject this.

Try using a very large thorny stick with a whippy end , then place it across said wife's bum cheeks at speed several times in quick succession , and remind her " YOUR THE BOSS!" .That should move it .
-
Glad to see there's some rational logic going on out there.
Process of ellimination is the only way to sort things out properly . Brill post .
-
0007 and Danwilliams quotes are bang on.
You cant infinately push something closed if it's as far closed as it can be .
Think there's another problem there myself.
Italian Quallity Control could be better as a good friend of mine just found out with his 1 year old Ducati 1198. Had running problems at low speed from new.Back to the dealers countless times on warrenty.Went to bike recentlyand no start.Battery charge down to 11.9 V .Turned out to be the regulator.£20 quid fix and countless software updates from the dealer without a real reason to have them.
Find the problem to get a fix for the longterm.
How annoying that must be with a new bike though !
-
Good punt tony27. I have noticed the Aussies flat track movement and seen some of the bikes they've built but the web site has given me some more ideas . Thank's guy's and keep it coming .
Ted.
-
That will give you a couple of suprises. Firstly how much controlable grunt there is in 3rd gear and secondly how rapid the second world war fighter plane throttle response catapults you over or straight through things.Great fun .
-
HTR D ,Thank's a lot for the pics . The SR 500 is my second choice . Simple lines only seem to amplify the attraction of the first two images. The bars on the sudco bike really set it off as does the black motor and spoked wheels of the bike with plate 83 .
Great ! Strangely enough there are very few of the Harley's that i like or the ex moto crossers although without a doubt they are brilliant , just not pleasing on the eye .
Once again thanks
Ted

Htrdoug , check out the pair of 70s 2 stroke twins by Winbro racing on google . Immediate stalker on! The thing is you can't pick old RD's up here now for less than $5000 ! For a non runing pile of ***** you are paying $1500 and need to spend a bomb on them to get them something like . I had the DT in mind as it's simple and doable at a reasonable price . The bike in the photo looks **** hot !
The point here for me is simple , if you get a kick from riding a bike of your choice then that's good.Iv'e done 10 lap club races on my old Aprillia inline twin with little more than a sheet of foam under my ass and remember we all ride trials bikes and don't know about you but the seat on my GasGas is err well non existant . If i was interested in bikes as a means of day to day transport here in the UK then i would look for comfort or buy a better car . Then a fairing , heated grips (pipe and slippers) STOP! Tell me more about trackers ,do any of you go to meetings , have any of you got one ?Tell me , i'm interested !
Regards TED
