  1. Hi wayne509. I've just bought a 4 RT. I havn't been out on it yet because i'm at sea . Interesting to read the comments and i tend to agree on some thing and think you should be mindfull of it . Let the bike do the work, let the turning force of the engine pull you rather than chop the drive off with the clutch like i have to on my GashGash.Think that high idle speed has been put there for more than one reason and as it's part of the settings for a map, i doubt compromise is the reason for it.Think "Drivabillity" may have been in mind. You can totally disregard this comment as i can't state fact here, just what i have focused in my mind on how to handle the Mont . Incidently ,the guy i bought the GasGas from was huge.Looked like a wrecking ball , 6ft5 and 20 stone and he had a new 4 RT and loved it.I'm 5ft10 and 11st7,and resemble a coat stand . Ted
  2. This problem is kicked up from time to time everywhere with bikes that haven't had a Pre Delivery Inspection done propperly. I have been the victim of this with a brand new bike when aged 17.Cut out and wouldn't start.Carried a set of plugs pre set according to NGK.Well yes they were but what for i don't know.So the bike cuts out wont start again. So i read the manual. There it was "check the plug gap" . "Set to 0.7mm " Which i did and stuff me off we go . So yes carry a plug but make sure it's set at the correct gap too. Glad you got your bike sorted out any how . Best regards Ted.

    Questionable Design

Sorry to chip my 2 bobs worth here but there's three solutions. 1.Get to know someone who can fabricate a case saver if you can't do it your self. 2.Your lucky ,ive had road racing bikes where fuel has eroded the crank cases from the inside( a Honda RS 125 ).If you have a bike with Mag cases, crank or other wise, give them a good cleaning and they will be ok. 3.Don't buy a bike with mag cases if it p****s you off that much. What say you? Oh yes don't stand them to near the gas fire ,or they will spontaniously combust in a nice white blaze ! Ha sorry just my crap humor. Really it's a costly problem to resolve and i see your point. sirhc your bike look's absolutly brill . I know several people now who have gone for the Factory 125 . Hope you enjoy it.
  4. Thanks for that info jj. Ted Tagged onto the message above this , doe's the sprockets from Yr 2012/13 Monts fit the new 4rt or are they a model specific fit ? If so where you getting them as i've looked but obviously not hard enough!
  5. jj65. Do you have to do a remap to fit the termi pipe? Can you tell you've shed the weight?
  6. Bought a 2013 GasGas Pro ,and low and behold the swinging arm bolt was loose. Didn't notice at first because it has frame protectors on .Maybe everyone reading this should go and make sure there's isn't loose or we could end up with the same unfortunate result . Check after every trial too . How unfortunate jandyb.
  7. Go to talons web site and check out how many sprockets are cut at one time . Mass production has to be cost effective and , my view only here , even in Europe , they will be done to a price per 1000 etc . So to me ,lazer cut ,machine cut , pressed,it's all the same , once your tools are set you do a run. It's not as though they're being made by a team of Elve's is it . The manufacture cost between the two types will be small in comparison by volume surely ? Not saying i know , just judging by how thing's go here. It's the middle men who put the price up before it comes to us . Or is it just trend?
  8. Yes Biff noticed how sometimes on my 280 it's sensative to weather and height as i live at sea level ,literally . Then i go to a trial in the hills and it runs a bit crap . Makes a world of difference . Yep the old auto pilot routine has been done recently by me to. Good though in't it .
  9. Yep Montesa has been a Honda with Montesa stickers for years. But maybe with the "name change" we could see Honda 4RT Trials bikes in the USA Honda dealerships???? (It would be good for the sport but I still won't buy one of those overpriced heavy lumps. Hey zippy how are you ?Here's a pic for you. Ted.
  10. Answer = I looked at it and it didn't break. Unlike my 2013 GasGas which did ! O.k maybe i should re phrase and say it looks robust and amazing. Anyhow , not that it's rare or anything although it maybe in two years as Montesa don't exist anymore. Can see it now can't you,"last of the Montesa's,appreciating classic" Sorry that's a joke.
  11. Hey Dado and jj . Thanks for that . Bought it from Craigs m/cycles in Dewsbury Yorkshireville. Had to fight my way over the border over them there hill's but got in and out safely. The young guy there called Andy, the parts guy, sure i've seen him at Backcowm,he really like's the standard 4rt and said i wouldn't regret buying it. Can't wait to get out on it but need's setting up .Reading the manual from cover to cover first.Whats the Dunlops like compared to the Mitchellins ? The robustness of the thing is amazing. Any way that's me away Sunday A.M for 3 week's and tied up till then. See you guy's out and about maybe . Shy T
  12. Thanks for the concern johnny b. So ,after a chit chat with the long haired chief of staff, she said "why don't you live for now and take your own advise, just go and buy one and sell the GashGash your self , if you go to another comp you might devalue it even more !" So i have . So now i have a new bright red Mont sat here next to me . The manual is brill addition ,hate CD manuals ,much prefer the book. The bike ---well bloody hell ! Only the second time in my adult life i've bought a brand new trials bike. Not quite sunk in yet. It's ace ! You were correct jj65 , just waited a lot less than i anticipated.
  13. Looks like i'll have to wait a couple of month to buy a 4rt.Yet another sickner. Got offered £2600 (a 2013 bike less than a year old) for it against a brand new bike ,and my bike is mint condition with no problems as i type. So i'll be selling it private. Sicker than a sea going Parrot !
  14. Well you know what, had a chat with Coops at the trial and recon my old 280 edition is twice as indestructible as my new Pro. Despite not having a rebuild for 14 years it ran faultlessly and did some tough events . Now that's why it will stay with me . The only problem i got was at a very muddy Holgate 100 where the front brake seized through mud encrusting it .quickly un seized it by running under some flowing water,to finish the remaining lap of the trial.
  15. After today at the first trial i've done on the gasgas ,made my mind up that it's going on Tuesday for a new 4rt. The gasgas rides dead good but even today ,on a bike that's less than a year old , it developed another pathetic problem.Talked to a guy who had a new Repsol, and he summed it up.He want's a good day with his bike knowing it's not going to break or need a daft repair, and his Mont makes him smile.Enough said .Just hope i'm making the right decision.
  16. Today on my TXT 250, i rode my first trial this year. Pretty easy , but had to contend with the new bike thing. Miles more control than my 280 and got brave on some up hill successive concrete pipe. Off ,try again ,off, try again,it don't like 3rd ,try again ah yes almost this time . Again and had more grip this time and went sky ward only to meet the dirt on the way down...again.Tell me anyone how do nettles manage to sting through trials pants ,as my right ass cheek was glowing red with large white welts along with my right fore arm much to the amusement off my misses. Ah well , at least only the outer rear piston on the back brake seized today.Noticed the back brake efficiency went to rat ***** on lap three . Bye Bye 2013 GasGas 250 , can't tell you how disappointed i am.To be fair it rides well, just fed up with the gash quality .
  17. Lotus 54,yes that's true what your saying about DI and IDI . Honda (HRC) poured a barrel of money into DI 2 strokes, only to prove one thing ,you can't control it. Read about the Ossa Enduro and that's apparently the tech they've employed in the 2014 trials bike. Good to see someone trying another angle.
  18. Got a bit of a shock today . In January, i bought a 2013 GasGas pro 250 and it's made of crap materials. So been thinking of chopping it in for a Beta 4t as opposed to the 4rt like the one pictured above. There's £200 difference in price between the two bikes . I know from what i've been reading on here , and know someone who has one that it's more advanced than the Beta by a long measure. For the quality and track record of the Mont , kind of made my mind up. Just a shock of the price difference dumbfounded me . Master stroke pulled there then.
  19. Hello Hoggy. I've been iffing and butting about the same thing.Tell you what i saw at Bacowm quarry. A guy who had bigger arms than my legs & built like a brick **** house along with two others on the 2013 Evo 4t . They all thought they had got they're monies worth. He said it pulled him easy. One had come from a 2011 4RT and found his bike, and i quote his words, easier to handle in a section. The only complaint any of them had was one had had a rev 4 and the water pump impeller had disintegrated . Later talked to a guy who's 2t 2011 250 Beta Evo had done the same . Think my self i'm going to take the plunge and get the 250 4t Evo. Thought seriously about the Mont 4rt 260 , and the quality is definitely there, but it sound like a fart. If i were you, grab the bull by the horns and get it .....BUY IT NOW !!!!!! Best regards Ted.
  20. Dad f2 , s 's a large angry d g and sh tgun ,h h h iv'e cracked a funny. My humor aside it's a good idea in my view.
  21. Bimota/Cagiva V Due. The director of Raceways Motorcycles at Fleetwood has just bought a brand new(Old) one that doesn't run(not had the Dellorto carb conversion)from Ireland. Sac du Merde.
  22. OCD is my curse and can lead me to frustration. Beginning to wish i hadn't bought my 2013 250. It rides fantastic and the suspension is brill although that's my view. what's bugging me no end is the inexcusable crap quality of the thing ! Niggling little things breaking ,cracking ,leaking and dropping off. Been out on it once . Cleaning thoroughly yesterday and found, seals leaking on the exhaust,a cracked bracket on the exhaust mount, suspension bearing sleeve cracked . It's a joke when you think the bike is less than a year old . so today with my GasGas i'm seriously contemplating getting rid of it which is really frustrating!
  23. Twinshocked.Go back and have a proper read of whats been stated in the messages,or read the topic from the start. As far as "to me Honda is the motor cycle cartel" ,it's what i think pal . If you probably looked at the Honda corporation ,it's owned by several investors therefore you could say,a cartel, who try and influence change of rules to suit them self .They want to sell HONDA and sharing don't feature in their repertoire . Ducati world super bike during the 90s were penalized by weight imposition on the persistent badgering to the FIM ,of Honda in particular. As soon as they got the RC45 on the podium they shut up. Also who mentioned road going cars,or bikes with incorrect silencers in all this? Can you prove that what i say isn't right? It may be wrong ,but i can add 2&2 together and get 4 instead of 5. If you want to trust the issue of policy in any walk of life it's up to you,but where big money is at stake, the politicians of that concern will be there hoovering up the cash. It's good you've commented on this but seem's you haven't read the whole thing. Anyway i'm off to a ritual stoning of a guy who rode a Honda with no silencer with political connections who hates 2 strokes ,and put an old trail bike engine ,modified it to suit ,into a joke of a frame and called it a TL125 . Chuffa chuffa chuffa .Any one want to come?
  24. Zulujack , myself ,i couldn't agree more . Seems to me that the road racing scene is now on another dimension. When i was in my teens, loads of people could buy a racing bike over the counter. As in specifically designed for the job.Now ,manufacture of the race rep road bike is biased towards the track, but still built as a road bike.So as you state , deep pockets are needed to convert their bikes to be competitive. Before the road racing 2 stroke started it's progression(affordability) you had a motor cycle that could be bought over the counter with a spares kit and back up by any Tom , Dick or Harry. Couldn't say that about the RCV , M1 or err...err...err oh yes that Ducati thing . It's quite possible that the trials scene will go to a 3 horse race. Stupid me it almost is! Get the picture?
  25. Hello Ryan.Only advise i can offer is bloody enjoy yourself !
