Yes, It's an easy swap, I recall having to elongate the bolt hole under the filter and drill and tap a thread up by the headstock for the front mounting bolt.
If you have the Keihin carb it will be plain sailing but It may be different if you have the Dellorto as I think the 12 bikes had a Keihin as std so the new air box pipe will be bigger where it mounts to the carb.
-
This happens because the edge of the bottom yoke is thin where it hits the stop. Had this happen on my 11 bike, I'm not sure if the standard yokes are different but the Factory ones do a good job of denting the frame.
If the frame tubes are slightly crushed, your frame is severely weakened and will be sure to start cracking the gusset plate very soon.
I suggest making two half round, heavy gauge, plates and have them welded to the frame, This will put strength back in the affected area and reduce the chances of it happening again. A plastic tube will not provide enough protection although it will protect the paint on the frame.

Looks like a sherco engine, It looks like the Sherco branding is blanked off in the castings for the barrel on the 2 others and the flywheel cover is changed.
Edit : Just jumped in at the end of this post, Sorry, I've read the title now and Sherco engines have nothing to do with Mr Raga!!!!
Beta are the big ones that need a rider of his level at WTC.
-
There are a huge amount of Gas Gas bikes around, If the company re started smaller scale, I'm sure the income from spares alone would be very profitable.
If they made bikes that they can sell, that would be great also.
In the past they got too big and over produced by a lot, so a year down the line they were discounting them by a grand or more just to shift them before the new bike is released.
-
Use ATF Dex 2, 3 or G spec, This is the best oil for reducing clutch drag, I have used it in all trials bikes for years.
40wt oil will make your clutch drag like hell in a Sherco.

Them Beta riders really do have a sense of humor...............Just like the beta parts prices LOL!!!!!
-
You can re sole them, but they need to be done properly. All the old glue must be removed with solvent then coat the boot and the new sole with impact adhesive, The everbuild brand from toolstation is close to what they actually use at the shoe repairers, Evo stick is not as good as it's too thick.
Let it dry then heat up the glue on the sole. Then place sole on boot and beat it with a hammer for a minute. The pros also use a press but the hammer will work as good, just takes longer.
My brother has been in the shoe trade for 35+ years and I used to have a Saturday job there as as teenager.
My Gaerne's have served me well for 4 years and have some life left in them just. I will buy them again as the Sidi and other brands with the plastic heel cap beat the hell out of the swingarm stickers!
-
It's not just classic bikes that have the problem, Triumph and other classic car parts are the same, Stupid money and you have to almost remake it to get it to fit, It's not the car as I can try the same part on 4 others and it still isn't right.
I think some companies don't care as some parts you can not get elsewhere so they have you over a barrel.
-
If your throttle is heavy get married, You will be surprised how strong your right arm soon gets after a short while!!!
-
I think alot of the patents were held be that XIU guy, Most have run out now as ossa and jotagas have a some gas gas tech in the gearboxes!.
Someone needs to buy the name and get them knocked up in China, They will probably be better also and with the name they wont get into the Xispa scenario.
We could have a good bike way cheaper than the rest if this happens.
I'm not worried about parts for mine, Shirty will get his hands on them from the suppliers. It's still too fresh to need anything soon anyway, However I may be changing bikes soon not because of the GG situation, I just need new toys to keep me interested.
Plus the prices won't drop too much as older bike prices will go up as the breakers will be buying them all for strong money now.
-
I don't think parts will dry up quick, As others have stated most parts are made by 3rd party companies.
I reckon It's all part of a big plan.
A new (Jota) Gas Gas might appear to fill the gap in the trials and enduro market.
-
They have called the 272cc a 290 for years to make it sound more manly alongside the 300 gas gas.
-
Between 1/4 and 3/4 is normal when running the standard (45) pilot jet.
-
The new engine is not much better than the old Morini unit. They are not really a trials engine, They are just an adapted moped engine with the power too high up the rev range and geared wrong between 1st and 2nd.
They work and are reliable but as usual with the Gas Gas kids and junior bikes, they are make do with whats available off the shelf as they are sold in too small numbers.
The gearbox is better on the new one as it's trials specific but the cylinder and output is not much better than the old engine.
What you really need is the Beta 80 engine in the Gas Gas then the bike will be perfect.
It's a shame the Beta is a bit primative and pig iron also they draw you in with a cheaper bike then charge miles over the odds for parts.
-
Make sure there is free play in the lever so the master cylinder can extend fully and draw fluid from the reservoir.
If you have trouble bleeding then there is a problem with the caliper or M/C, I would guess the caliper following what you have done.
Strip it down, clean and rebuild as Dadoff has suggested.
-
How about Handbags at 20 paces!!!! The light handbag vs the old heavy one. Weight increase would be a plus in that sport!!!
Dad and Nige love each other really.
-
This topic is getting heated!!!!! LOL
The idea of producing an engine that could be used in mx, trials, enduro.
Scorpa tried that with the 250 4T yamaha engine from the mx range, What a disaster that was.
Beta just take 1st gear out of their full factory bikes to make the engine lighter, Still a reliable unit from the techno days, No need to re develop.
But I think the weight thing is a dig at GG as usual.
As been said before, Cheaper, Heavier more reliable bikes don't sell.
Some on here are like trying to argue with the wife when she's been on the wine, She's always right and will argue black is white till she passes out!!!!
-
A farmer goes to his solicitor.
"I wanna divorce my wife" He says.
"O.K, What grounds do you have? The solicitor replies.
"Oh front Garden, Back garden..."
"No", says the solicitor, you must have misheard me, Let me put it another way "Do you have a grudge?"
"Arr", Says the Farmer, "But I can't fit the car in it anymore".
"Your'e still not getting me" The solicitor replies, Put it this way "Is your wife a nagger?"
"No" says the Farmer "But I caught her Sh****ng one and I want a divorce".
-
Youre spot on there, In 02 the rear wheel was the 36 spoke with 4 bolt sprocket same as most bikes used up to 2011 when the external spoke rim came out.
-
It should be the same at the wheel end, I have a spare one from an 02 I'm Breaking, They looked better quality on that year and polished instead of rough cast.
You are welcome to try the one I have, If it fits you can leave it on for a case of fosters!!!!
-
The older Sherco Kickstarts were much better, I bent mine on my 300 and replaced it with an 02 unit.
You have to give the Sherco a good kick, But engage the gear 1st by holding pressure then kicking through.
It easy to kick them too gently through fear of the gear slipping ang jaring your knee.
I had my old bike make some loud bangs every so often but it never kicked back through the lever.
-
You will need to change the bearing, It will look like this one, But you will need to find the exact one for your shock from a bearing shop or Gas Gas.
They push in and out of the shock body.

-
The center clutch hub nut may have come loose at some point and allowed the clutch to move towards and rub the casing in the past?
-
I don't think this anything to do with a GG kick start especially the later ones.
It looks like something that stops the kick start rattling when closed, It won't be a stop as it wouldn't last 2 kicks.
The kickstart does hit the footrest when starting on most trials bikes these days.
