The Evo is a very front heavy bike, Old engine not much lighter than the Techno lump, even with the mag cases etc on the factory.
Move the bars to the rear holes on the yokes and fit some CSP rearward footpegs. You could also make some spacers to raise the bars higher to take some weight of your arms too.
If all else fails change to a Gas Gas with Tech forks.

Powder coating will be more hard wearing, I'm guessing you will be going blue!, The old coating will need stripping. A good powder coater can leave it thinner around the frame number.
Get it done by a good company and make sure they etch prime it properly before coating.
-
A can of tyre weld works every time for me so far over the years!
-
Buy a Reiger shock for the Beta! Not much difference in power unless you get a 2015 Gasser they are really pokey on that year.
-
Good bike the 06 rev3.
Plug: BP6ES for U.K (BP7ES Standard)
Gear oil: I always use ATF but there's a big debate on gear oils, I suggest do a search.
2T oil: I use 80:1, Ipone, GRO, I don't like Putoline But again everyone has a debate on this so do another search on here otherwise this will end up going on forever.
Air filter wise they are all pretty much the same, It's good to have a spare clean one in your toolbox.
The air boxes get wet after jet washing too so stuff a plastic bag in there before washing.
Leaking fuel from the carb is normal.
-
The Hardrocks are positioned a little further forward than most standard pegs, The RQF pegs like the sherco's have standard are the same in the standard position so should feel similar.
They May fit better as they are narrower at the mounting point and use spacers to take the width of the frame mounting so are less likely to bind.
You can also turn the spacers around and adjust the position.
They are about 45 quid too.

Back garden!!!, I wish I was your neighbour, Lucky Chap.
-
It is a very capable machine for it's size and I can see why the rider in question, If good enough could beat the big bikes on it.
With the right rider on board it can go places that others can't on bigger bikes, I found that out this weekend.
The stock shock on the New 80 is a Paioli unit like the one used on the Rev 3 and very good in the 80 as it's been set up and sprung well from the factory.
Different story on the bigger Evo's as Beta have revised it every year and have changed to a newer design Sachs unit now.
-
The alloy tech forks and different yokes are from the replica's, It may have the single damping adjustable Reiger shock but still expensive parts.
If they brought out a Replica the only difference would be the 2 way Reiger as there is not much else to bolt on to it to justify the price hike over the racing.
If I brought one it would have to have at least the 2 way Reiger as I couldn't have anything else after riding with one for quite a while.
-
Get an airbox asap, Scary thought that someone has put a k&n on it!
-
Good on them, It looks like the 14/15 Replica's with a different set of graphics. If this is the production model that's an awesome spec bike. I hope the price is right as the Replicas were £6500 ish.
I would assume If they get into production again the forks and shock would be swapped to more standard units to keep the cost competitive.
Fingers crossed for them as the Gasser is the lightest, best riding mainstream bike around.
-
Most other shocks will probably be too stiff, Even if the old spring will fit the damping rate will be too high.
Either get the shock rebuilt or fit the newer Paioli from the later Evo 80.

There's plenty of easy events in your area, and a local place to practice, Sandpit Farm, near Sturminster Marshall. Just buy a cheap bike and go and play at a practice ground.
Also come along to some local trials and watch some other riders, You could even help out as an observer, It's easy and someone will show you the ropes, you will pick it up quick, and most clubs pay between 10 and 15 down here for section observers.
There's lots of other beginners at trials so you won't feel out of place, Club trials down south are just about having a laugh anyway.

I wish J Gas all the best but I think they have burned bridges and lost market confidence.
Now the TRS is out that looks almost the same and will be an improvement on the J Gas plus it will have MR Raga on the foot pegs.
-
This will give TRS a flying start, getting the bike straight up in the top of the pile at world level.
This will definitely sell bikes for them and kickstart the brand as a premium machine, If they can supply the bikes I think people will be confident enough to buy them.
A very wise investment for TRS!

If they have been fine for a year and haven't been damaged any further I would guess someone has not done the forks properly.
They could have too much oil in them or the seals may have been distorted during fitting. Also there could be dirt inside if not flushed out properly.
They are aluminium forks with a type of hard anodising, They can not be chromed like steel forks I presume but there is probably a specialist that can do them.
I've seen lots of people change seals and they leak straight afterwards due to not doing them properly. I've also seen some numpty spray wd40 under the dust seals = disaster!
I've seen a few scraped fork legs that work fine and take a long time to wear the seals.
The Marzocchi forks are not like regular forks and are not quite as straight forward to work on but not rocket science.

Just seen this for sale looks interesting?

I only use Galfer pads, Best stopping power and bed in almost instantly.
-
I liked the rear mounted tank, It gave the bike a more central weight, I was looking forward to the new Sherco but I feel they are not unique anymore. I might as well stick to the Beta and Hope Gas Gas comes back to life soon.
-
-
Shall we go back to wooden wheels so we don't get punctures?
-
Stickers look good but why hasn't anyone noticed that the front brake hose is not routed correct, It's supposed to go through the wire ring on the headlight. I should imagine you will have problems if it's left cable tied to the other fork leg as it will probably wear the fork stanchion and could even snag and break the hose.
Just a bit of advise, not picking holes, also I agree you might want to put a brace on the bars as they are not fatbars and should be braced or they could snap easily.
Cool looking bike though!!
-
What they said, Cylinder head inner O-Ring. Pressurizing the cooling system.
-
The engine is strong but now outdated, The mag cases and lighter crank in the factory models doesn't make much difference, They are much more front end heavy than an Ossa or Gasser and don't grip like a Sherco.
As others have said the 15 factory is the best looking bike yet, I can't wait to see the 16 Factory next year, I'm betting on a blue frame!
I'm stuck with my Evo for a while but I do slowly like it more with every ride and tweak, Apart from a linkage I see no real improvement from the later Rev3.
-
They go soft as well, If your'e riding at speed or trials with rocks get a pair of mx boots, not as flexible but you can't have both worlds.
The Gaernes are very nice to wear I love them but I'm down south so it's just mud and logs, Mine are going well still after 4 years.
