What was the rough price for the rebuild, if you don't mind me asking?
I have a 04 rev 3 shock that I'm fitting to a JCM at the moment and it could do with a re fresh.
-
Around 625 to 650 is right, It's the same bottom end as the early air cooled bikes and was used through the txt range till 2002.
Bottom End Is also used in the Pampera, JCM and Alfer bikes. (Iv'e got 2 spare engines for my new project).
Putoline light oil or 5w30 mineral oil is fine if you can get it. Dont use ATF in these boxes though.
-
As a couple of others have said, I'm betting its the top nut on the yoke needs re tightening.
I've seen it on many bikes every time machine examining for an event and most riders are oblivious to it! It's not a reason to exclude a bike from riding though.
-
See if you can get it running, Turn the forks round then have a go on it. It doesn't look too bad to me from the pics. The forks will need a re chrome, that's expensive.
I'd have brought it.
-
I always used a 10t on the sherco's. 1st Gear never used, 2nd main avarage section gear, 3rd if a bit of a climb and 4th for balls out big hills.
My particular bike would even rip up the hills in 5th!

They all fall to bits just read all the forums, It's just Honda owners won't admit it!!!!!
-
Fajardo has not been on form the last couple of years. He rides big hazards very well as he has proved in the indoors of previous.
I think Fajardo has just got his mojo back.
-
Looks like a fun toy, I wouldn't mind having a play on it.
Not a serious competition bike and will never get close to a Beta or GG 80 for the kids. Obviously.
I admire the workmanship though, Fair play to whoever built it.
-
Well done! Seems Irish to me but as they say don't knock it till you've tried it.
Just make sure the master cylinder can return fully, If there is no free play between the push rod and Master cylinder you will have problems and most likely it will bind on when it gets hot.
-
It's cheaper to tune the 250 than buy a new barrel and piston. How much power do you want? You can make a 250 more lively than a standard 300 if needed.
-
I'm guessing a partially blocked pilot jet or air passage in the circuit, or an air leak from the rubber manifold, or the flywheel side crank seal.
This is the usual suspects when a bike has been standing. I note you have cleaned the carb but it's best to double check, Sometimes an ultrasonic clean or soaking the jets in chemicals is the only way to clean them properly after a lay up.

This might be of some use:

-
Strip it and sort the base gasket, It could be the water pump seal pressurizing the gearbox, More common than a head o ring problem.
-
-
I'd strongly suggest a good ride on one 1st, The Sherco is closer to the Gasser ride. The Beta is not everyone's cup of tea, I'm finding out the hard way!
-
Stick a pig iron Beamish on the back of A small Rover!!!!! I hope my Mrs and kids arn't driving around your area.
A trailer has a pivot point so the force on the rear of the car is not too great when you hit a bump. Imagine a 90kg bike over a bump at speed and imagine the force it will create for a split second if hung off the back on a rack!!
-
Make sure you have permission to ride in the woods. Illegal off road riding is killing our sport and land at the moment.

Cut and pasted from the website name on the pic:
As we announced in E*****P** few months ago, that's all that he needs toGas Gas to stay alive. The only? With settlement there would be no bank debt, which was the most, and Gas Gas would remain a reliable company. Today,KTM , MV Augusta , other brands off-road sector and an Asian investor in the world of two wheels have exchanged numbers with the Catalan firm. The expectations of the management of Gas Gas happen because the company continues to exist because the bank removed, the company would eliminate much of the burden.
Google Translate isn't that good.
-
You can find all the info on here or look for a manual up to 2001 TXT, Will be pretty much the same.
-
KTM should buy GG and make them the same as they are.. They could even make them Orange and sticker them as KTM and people, including me, will still buy them as they are a proven design by a big company and not a fly by night new brand.
-
So looks like KTM, MV and the asians are after the Gas Gas name after all.
-
Plenty of info on here. Still.... a good plug for your ebay advert!
-
I agree with air leak.
Inlet rubber leaking, Flywheel side crank seal gone, Blocked pilot or water in the fuel.
Also could be blocked fuel tank breather or crud in the tank.
-
Calipers need stripping often, There is always a build up under the front lip of the seals that most people overlook as it can't be seen. You can remove the pistons and it will look spotless but take a hooked pick to the under side of the seal lip and all sorts of crud will come out.
The Grimeca calipers have very soft anodising on the pistons and can wear through and create a groove very quickly, The Ajp ones are much better and last for years in comparison.

Ossa were going nowhere even before they got mixed up in the Gas Gas saga. Shame as I rode a properly mapped one and thought it was great but wouldn't buy one as I had a gut feeling they would go belly up.
I love the Gassers especially the Raga/Replica, I should have kept mine but was swayed over to the Evo as they are reliable but in reality they are no better than the rev3. Heavy old engine even with magnesium cases and lighter crank and fisher price suspension.
Sherco is the next best thing to a Gasser, I think one will be on my shopping or swap list if I can not get this heave ho (evo) sorted.
Wish I had money to blow as I would take a gamble on the TRS as I think it will be the Gas Gas replacement but the market is too dodgy at the moment. Im also so glad I didn't get a Jotagas.
