  1. I'm afraid none of these Hitler rants have amused me much since I was spoiled by the one where he did not get an entry for the Pre'65 at Kinloch. I laughed out loud at that one - never have so many nails been hit on the head in one go.
  2. Based on my experience I would not suggest NOS. Whilst it hasn't been used and heated/cooled etc it's still forty years old and might possibly be subject to deterioration (or not), who knows how it has been stored these decades. A good rewind will be guaranteed to work and keep working.
  3. William Woollard et al☺ Let's have a proper motoring programme and not a motoring themed "comedy". Hell, they even used to have motorcycles on it once every six years.
  4. It is not uncommon for elderly TY 175 low tension coils to be kaput. I got mine rewound rather than go to what people have found to be an unreliable electronic system. In its day the TY set up was regarded as very good so I saw no reason to abandon it. The modern rewind uses better materials than were available in the day.
  5. Thunder Bay; if you haven't met Stuart McLuckie you soon will☺
  6. I have size 8s too (about average for a male of my generation?). My 4RT came with what I think is an Apico pedal which may be a bit less exposed than the standard but gives enough leverage and easily reached. I ride with my instep on the rest and lift my toes, as it were, to put the weight on to the back of the rest to get grip if necessary. I then have no need to lift my foot to reach the brake, but it should be possible to get used to doing so - we all need to lift the other foot off to change gear in a section, as is occasionally done, after all. You'll never get a trials bike absolutely perfect in this regard. I'm sure an ergonomist would be aghast at our set ups. I have not heard of a dual control device can you give us more info Oz T?
  7. The one you have shown as 2006 is the same appearance as the standard one on my 2003. Your 2003 one must be some aftermarket item.
  8. Whilst a good carb clean won't do any harm I have known the perforated tube in a silencer to either fracture or come loose such that it falls down and no longer link the two ends of the silencer, causing an obstruction.
  9. I am very pleased to see that you have not lost your oft demonsrated capacity for intelligent, reasoned, discussion.
  10. It certainly looks like a Miller frame that someone has added a bracing piece to between the front downtubes.
  11. Assuming you are in the UK, or even if not, there are two Googleable places that do this - phone them and get a precise figure? If it's the source coils then I think that is about £90. One place is in the south west and the other sounds as if it should be in Yorkshire (I'm not sure of the rules on here for naming businesses).
  12. Well Nigel, every trial I go to locally there is someone else with a new 4RT. I have seen two new Betas this year (which is the make I would have expected to see as the best seller), heard of two new Scorpas and seen one new Sherco. Dealer reported figures are well beyond anything I can see at trials for other marques. They're not cheap so something must be attractive about them. Could it just be the Central Belt of Scotland?
  13. Why change what currently seems to be by some margin the top selling trials bike on the UK market?
  14. In the case of a four speed motor being used, probably none.
  15. I think there's a couple of those about in Japan. As far as I am aware it's a factory special based on the long since out of production Scorpa. No doubt there's loads of lighter parts on it but the gearbox/primary drive at least must be totally different to judge from the size of the rear sprocket.
  16. They certainly sounded crisp enough at the Scottish.
  17. Inevitably we use more force than necessary when shutting off (typically when making a hard front wheel landing)and the plastic drum gets forced beyond the plastic stop, rounding the corners such that it then keeps happening. I have been trying to think of a way to reinforce the contact point but have not yet succeeded. Heffergm's links don't lead to anything now.
  18. When the downtubes crack at the end of the steering head gusset you'll know that it's definitely a Miller frame?
  19. I imagine a few felt considerably older come Saturday afternoon than they had on Monday morning☺ I too would guess at Nigel in the absence this year of Volta Klecka. I think Walter Luft was late Sixties or perhaps Seventy when he last rode.
  20. You presumably have a revcounter that you use occasionally so you know the sound of the figures you quote. Do you know where they can be obtained? You've been hard done by - a pal had to change the plug in his TLR 250 last weekend and complained it had only lasted 18 years☺
  21. A great lunchtime read to set the mood just before I step in to the car to head for the Fort.
  22. If I recall correctly timing is set at 1.8mm BTDC. There is no adjustable backplate, with adjustment being carried out purely by altering the points gap. Sorry I can't recall the max and min permitted gaps.
  23. If you are going to do anything at an event you need coolant anyway - I always had a length of tubing on the bottle in the toolbox when I was riding the Rev 3. No great problem.
  24. Surely if you were going to the effort of doing all that you would do it such that the caliper would last more than five minutes in rocky going?
