I applied the 'Beta Clutch Fix' (link above) to my SY250. Definitely worth doing.
I also changed the oil regularly. Had good results with Castrol ATF
I cant recall having any issues with the hydraulics once the nut was repositioned as above.

Well, the event is now history and I have to say that Toni did a great job in front of around 40,000 people.
They had set up a fairly standard indoor hazard of a variety of large steel boxes and triangles. Toni did his stuff back riding over them from various angles, riding on the back wheel and so on. That part of the show finishes with a backwards hope DOWN from some 8 - 10 feet, landing on the back wheel and riding away.
It finished with hops over/across etc a somewhat bemused presenter (although clearly rehearsed!). The crowd showed their appreciation with a great fanfare of air horns. All in all a good advert for the sport and Toni came over very well in the interview afterwards.
I was also lucky enough to get within touching distance of the bike in the pits and have to say it is everything you expect of a works HRC machine. The engine cases look to be sandcast rather than the production diecastings and the frame looks different in several areas. Oh, and it sounds fantastic (but not that good that I would give up a two-stroke!)
Thanks to Toni, Montesa HRC and Monster for making it happen.

Just been announced in this weeks Speedway Star magazine that Toni Bou is part of the pre meeting entertainment for the British Speedway Grand Prix. This is on Saturday June 1st at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff and is backed by Monster Energy - hence the link.
With Dougie Lampkin doing similar things with his R*d B*ll videos, this a great chance for trials skills to be showcased before a wider audience (40,000 people are expected to be there).
Be interesting to see what he does but I'm just worried the whole scale of the stadium will swamp him.

Suberb route around the Stroud Valley with some interesting sections. Great ride by Wrighty for just a couple of dabs.
All I need to do now is practice some more and make my Cotton more in keeping with the other pre-65's - or just buy a Fantic...

I rode at the Varden as well, again on the B route and generally thought it was a very good day out.
There were a couple of places that I felt were a bit tight but at the end of the day it was an open to centre trial and was supposed to be harder than the normal club trial. There were a few queues early on but the entry quickly spread out.
I paid no attention whatsoever to the A or C routes on the day but the results show that basically the same riders as normal were doing the winning and looking back through previous Varden results, the spread of marks lost was pretty similar to years past.
No Stop is certainly easier to observe and heaven help us if we ever have to suffer that absolutely awful OpenFree system they use for the Spanish championship.
I only heard one rider moaning on the day, but that was from the one person who seems to moan constantly about everything anyway...

Many congratulations to Ross Danby for a stunning performance that has resulted in a Midland Centre winner for a Midland Centre National!
Richard Gill will post the complete results on the Stratford website as soon as he has done them - http://www.stratford-upon-avonmcc.org.uk/
Many thanks to everyone who helped organise the event in whatever capacity and particularly to the observes who suffered literally all four seasons in one day.

Here you go - http://www.miniclip.com/games/extreme-trial/en/
Bit of fun if your company is open minded and isnt paranoid about people playing games at lunch time. After all, what else can you do wiith the internet...

Every Alp I know does that regardless of which rear silencer you have. Mine does it even with the standard system and it was much more noticable with a WES.
Ive always put it down to an air leak where the exhaust pipe joins the silencer as when Ive sealed it up properly it doesnt do it anywhere near as much.
If the bike starts and runs o.k then I personally wouldnt start fiddling with the carb settings.

All results are unofficial with no tie breaks decided and subject to Big Rich doing the real results which will hopefully be issued tomorrow.
We hope you all enjoyed the day out although once again the weather was a major factor.
As the club chairman, I'd like to publicly thank everyone who helped make this event possible including the landowners and observers but especially my fellow club members who have given up literally hundreds of hours of their own time to set out it all up and of course, clear it all up afterwards.
Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the event first being run and we are currently making plans to mark the occasion. Records show the event started early in Birmingham and had the lunch stop in Banbury. Today's course looks a bit short in comparison!

I havent got the data to hand but you should be able to find it on the web somewhere. The keenserts come in different grades - light, medium and heavy duty. The light series for most 5/16" threads has a 7/16" UNC thread (I think!)
Have a look at http://www.timesert.com/ and http://alcoafastener.thomasnet.com/categor...&bc=3001584
Of course, it may be simpler for everyone to phone Simon at Nametab and 'encourage' him to have some new crankcases cast up with all the modern updates already in place...

Thanks Charlie - Time-sert is the one! There is also Keensert which are very good but the outside thread maybe a bit to large to drill and tap the crankcase boss safely.
As for a supplier, try Clarendon Engineering at www.clarendoneng.co.uk . Dont expect them to be cheap!!!!
-
I've had very good results with the Nametab unit. Must be getting on for 5 years old now and Ive even had it running with the casing full of water! (but purely by accident...)
Nametab's points ignition kit (which I used before upgrading to electronic) has also proven to be good value with the points wear reduced to practically nothing.
-
The Talon statement probably means that they have done a 'sole supply' deal with Villiers Services and Im guessing it is because Villiers sprockets are low volume quantities compared with other markets and it makes commercial sense to make one big batch rather than several small and irregular ones. I'm sure Talon would do the same thing for the Cub if someone commits to a good sized order.
I personally dont see what the problem is buying from Villiers Services. I've been using them for many years without any problem whatsoever.
-
If my memory serves me correctly, it is 5/16 Whit on the barrel sidea and 5/16 BSF or UNC into the crankcases. Nothing unusual about that as many castings have a coarser thread into the aluminium because fine threads can strip really easily in soft metals.
The 'Villiers Improvements Handbook' by Rob Carrick also recommends drilling and tapping the cases out to take Timserts (bit like helicoils but much better) and using M8x1.25 studs which give much more peace of mind on 40 year old components.

Yep, still got it tucked away under a dust sheet.
Dont know what to do with it really as I cant see me riding it again any time soon and I could do with the extra space.
By the way gixxer7500, some spares are still available from Brian Griffiths in Hereford. There is a phone number for him on another recent thread in the aircooled monos forum.

Let me know how you get on.

Try these people:
J.J Cables Ltd
Tel: 01926 651470| Hillfields Farm, Lighthorne, Warwick, Warwickshire CV35 0BQ (off J12 M40 near Gaydon)
They are the best one off cable place by far. Will make to pattern or you can arrange to take the bike over to the workshops and they will do them there and then.

Looks like a Mecatechno 80 frame with a CG or XL Honda motor - or maybe a Chinese copy of one. Not sure about where the front forks are from.
If it was properly sorted, it would make a very nice Honda Special but you would just have to think that its got some dubious history behind it.
-
Been thinking exactly the same myself.
Basically, there isnt anything so I'm just in the process of getting on and making my own. I hope to be able to release some details and pictures in the next few weeks but please bear with me. Obviously, the more interest there is, the better the price but its not going to be cheap!!!!!
-
Anyone pepared to give any clues as to what exhaust system will work best on a Villers 250?
Any info greatfully recieved whether its just a phone number or pipe diameters, silencer volumes etc, etc.
-
I think Colin was on about 28.
Shame about the weather. We knew it could rain but maybe not by quite as much as that! Wrighty is a man of considerable influence but even he had no control on this occasion!!
