  1. As a Greeves fan, I'm pleased to see a new bike bearing the name. I only hope its more successful than the last bike to have the tank under the seat and the air filter at the headstock (JCM 1990). One final comment is that the quoted price just has to be a typo and should actually be
  2. Try here http://www.bmz.fr/achat/produit_details.ph...814&id=2617 I rescued a 240 Weekend from the back of a colleagues garage and partially restored enough to ride in a local club trial. The bottom half of the engine is directly interchangable with and air-cooled Gas Gas I can see why they didnt catch on and quickly bought an '01 Scorpa! Which reminds me - time to list the JCM on Ebay...
  3. Well, just a couple of days away and the club ready for action. Weather forecast isnt too bright for Saturday but Sunday seems better. The start at Blackwell village hall will have food all day with the bacon rolls being highly recommended. There is a luncjh stop at Saintbury Quarry with food there as well. The big news is that we have a full house of 120 entries and have had to return quite a few. We hope you all have a grand day out.

We have been saying for years that we have to ease things a little. I guess we have done that albeit with the help of some unbelievably dry conditions. Hope everyone enjoyed the day.
  5. There is such a bike in existance in the Cotswolds but I think that it is a probably a replica. I wont give the owners name without asking him first for obvious security reasons but I have ridden it and it is a very capable perfomer.
  6. Sounds like you have been unlucky. I have used one for 2 or 3 years now without any trouble at all and, unintentionally, have even had it running with the case half full of water!
  7. Try Sammy Miller - either the shop or museum - as he had it reprinted 3 or 4 years ago. I bought one and was as good a quality as I remember the original being. I thought it was a shame that he subsequently didnt reprint the Classic British Two Stroke book as well.
  8. I know its normally muddy there but it seemed much worse than usual!! The 3 Alans (Wright, Newman and Taylor) had done a sensible job with the 20 sections and even though it rained during the day, everything remained ridable. One or two suffered because the markers quickly got ridden into the mud and were not replaced. I have no idea as to who was going well but the scores may not be as high as you might expect. One thing though - why dont mudguards work on modern bikes, particularly on the rear?
  9. good entry of 80+ riders - mostly on the B route. I'm 5 miles down the road and it is absolutely chucking it down so grip is going to be a rare thing...
  10. I hate to be negative but I find the ACU mag a load of drivel and not a patch on its AMCA equivalent. Very little of the information is new and most of it is several months old. The whole thing needs sharpening up or abandoning altogether. Sorry, but I cant dress it up any better.
  11. Yes, the very same. These talks that Wrighty puts on are always very informative.
  12. Is it just me or are things getting out of hand? This A series Villiers engine has just gone for
  13. Was talking to his lordship on Tuesday night and there is going to be plenty of good bikes to look at - dont forget to take your camera.
  14. I have now used two different Simon Bateman ignitions: My Greeves has a points based system with a new LT coil and a Japanese type HT coil on it that in use has never needed the points gap adjusting - something a standard Villiers set-up could only ever dream of doing. Before you say anything, I checked it after every ride!!!! The Cotton has his latest electronic system and is now coming up for two years old. Ive had no problems with it at all. Mine didnt completely rev out at first but I adjusted the timing a little and its now very good, although I have to add I ride on lows revs where ever possible. Both systems are very reliable and represent good value for money. Although I dont have a note with me of the settings I use for AMAL mk1 carbs, if you buy one jetted for a Greeves Anglian, then it will be quite a close starting point. Ive done this with half a dozen different engines so far and only ever needed to go one step on any jet. I have bought from both Surrey Cycles and Sammy Miller. While its risking an avalance of comment, I think that there is a lot of myth and legend surrounding what parts you need for a decent Villiers engine. Mine are painfully standard compared with some but Ive still had a lot of success on them. I genuinely believe if you put them together carefully and ask Simon for advice where required, then you wont go far wrong.
  15. Regs now available from www.stratford-upon-avonmcc.org.uk
  16. It was used in the pre-monoshock days as well - -seem to remember me nose diving over the bars of my 240 Fantic one year. There is no doubt about Wrighty having a good eye for a section and it was another good team effort that kept the event balanced and a very fair challenge for everyone.
  17. Ah, section 7!!! In the old days of the Banbury National (mid 80's), that section was used quite alot. It used to have the wriggle at the bottom like we had yesterday but how many of you noticed the tree and running water on the opposite bank to the exit climb? - the section used to go up an over that and only a couple of riders a year ever got over it, and one of them was always a certain S Saunders esq. Form is temporary, class is permanent Thought it was a great day out with the marking out crew doing a good job of keeping the reigns fairly tight on Mr Wright.
  18. Blimey, Pete - great minds think alike!! JCM primed and ready to go. Will it create more interest than the Rev 4? I doubt it will as I would rather be on the Rev 4 as well.
  19. Shenington is off the Banbury to Stratford road near Edge Hill and Radway. It will be flagged with Castrol arrows or similar. try this link. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=43...p=newsearch.srf The venue is the stream (although in reality there isnt a lot of water in it these days) that is just above Orchard Hill and the number 197. Lots of rain in the Banbury area in the last 7 days - everywhere is very very soft at the moment. The Warren will be in prime condition!!!!
  20. Great day out - well done to Stuart Robinson and everyone else involved. Cant believe how dry it was after the rain last weeks - fields between Oxford and Banbury are still flooded. Trial was a bit easy in places but overall was very well balanced (and yes, I really cocked up the hard ones!). Shame about the shorter route but it seems things are only going to get worse on that front. Lowest score I heard was Julian Wigg on 2 on a very tidy DOT but I reckon someone will have gone clean.
  21. As a supporter of the Miller series for the last 10 years, I have to say that Woody's observation is the most accurate. I have every admiration for the skill needed to put together some of the specials currently being used, but it is outside the original intention of the series. Then the organisers stiffened the sections, which alienates the more standard bikes and the older riders. There is every indication that it is almost game over for the series: dwindling entries, genuine pre-65 bikes (and riders!) getting too old and valuable to risk, twinshocks added, trail bikes deleted, Adrian Moss's defection to run his own show. The king is dead? perhaps not but a lot of people need to work together to save it.
  22. Try Sammy Miller's (01425 616446?)- he shows one in his catalogue. Not cheap but its a perfect replica
  23. Anyone out there know where can get a
  24. Ive run one of Simon Bateman's systems for just over a year with no problems at all. Its worth buying the inner casing from him as well then it truly is a bolt on conversion. Timing is easily adjustable, my engine will run very slowly and cleanly. He makes all sorts for Villiers and I cant speak highly enough about the guy and no, I'm not sponsored by him. I just appreciate a fellow engineers work. Other parts he does include full circle cranks, stronger crankcases, gear sets, clutch baskets etc, etc. Oh and makes a ring weight to convert a standard Villiers flywheel into something suitable for trials. His phone number is 01527 522266
