Thanks for that...nice fittings!
-
yes, this is how SWM built them originally and many thanks for the link, but for me I like to use an allen fittings where ever I can as it's less tools to carry around in my bum bag, or erm, fanny pack.
-
Doh!...good point!
Cheers

My SWM's drum brakes have my attention at the moment and searching for improvements to drum brakes came across a few references to using 2 pack paint hardener on the brake linings to 'pep' them up. These threads were from afew years back....and not posted April 1st. Seems the linings were lightly sanded down then 2k hardener was painted onto the linings, left to dry for a day, then sanded down again, refitted and hey presto (shazam may work too?) improved brakes....although why this should work no one knew? Anyone doing this these days?
(Obviously no substitute for properly maintained brakes I will add...just curious)

Just been looking at some pics of grooved shoes and mine look quite worn with shallow grooves, say around 1mm.
So i pull the trigger on some new ones EBC or 'something Fren' shoes?
-
Hi guys, new cable and yes i have around 90' brake arm angle....hubs dont 'look' worn with no lip to speak of....the shoes seem very hard though, I'm wondering if they may of been cooked or something? I do have a fair amount of brake plate wear on the cam bush area though...actual cam is OK.
Front brake is fine but shoes look newer and softer.
-
All seems fine operation-wise but has some grooved shoes that seem to get mixed reviews....anyone carre to comment on their use in SWM's.
I've deglazed the shoes and the hub but no better.

that mudguard needs work!
-
finished her this morning, not too shabby for a quick tart up.
-
yes, access to kickstart bolt is ok same as manual describes....maybe its a 1980 thing only.
I'll try and scan the page later....its a very well written 'real world use' manual I may try and scan it all as it maay help someone else.....good bit about rear sping rates
-
there must be a story there regarding those bashplates and why the access hole only gives access to the wrong bolt......my guess is too much chianti for lunch before final drawings went out?!?My 'offical' US importers workshop manual says to remove the two plastic plugs on the clutch cover and lay bike on side to drain the gearbox oil!....as refitting the bashplate is too difficult even before they get damaged.
-
Cheers, can't be worse than my Beta REV3 bashplate....I hope!
-
B***er...that sumpgaurd is a real pain to fit even without the rubber pad!
Many thanks for clearing that up...typical Italian documentation....some parts missing and too many parts in other places!
-
....mine came with a rubber pad between engine and bashplate (sumpguard) but I can't find one shown in the parts book?
Thanks as always.....she's up 'n running just waiting on few parts to finish....been an easy strip 'n rebuild thus far thanks to help from this site and Mr SWM Martin.

Yup...it may come to that....I did a toolmaking apprenticeship....but dont have access to a lathe.
-
Ok this was present before my stripdown but it seems aliens have abducted it and are most likely probing it as I write....really frustrating oodles of bits in oodles of bags, all labeled up and you know tbe rest!
It's the bearing which the brake pedal sits on and acts as the securing nut too having an internal thread.
Martin doesn't have one so at the moment and this is a job stopper...if anyone can help both my SWM and myself will thank you.
-
Solved!
I knew Martin didn't have any but having checked again (and double checking my memory!) he kindly put me onto 'Mr Fantic Tom' who has some new old stock, £25 each..

Can anyone help with a replacement front brake arm (Marzocchi front end) as mine has 'rounded off' the square edges and now has so much slack I can't operate the front brake without resulting to a 'workaround''?
I may try and weld up and refinnish the arm but a replacement would be a quicker and more elegant solution.
I wonder if Fantic arms fit, those fitted with Grimeca hubs?
many thanks

and check out the those prices for MX jeans....£50 was a shed load of money back then.
