good and bad news plug went again. I think it was the way I set the kill switch as I replaced the old one as the throttle body was damaged and fitted an alternative which when wired to earth the bike did not like. I have now fitted a on/off switch which runs between the magneto wire and the coil and it seem fine. taking the nephew on his first trial Sunday so hope it all goes well.

I've had the same issue recently with plugs going, I changed everything electrical. As the throttle body was broke I changed it with one from Yambits which did not have the on/off switch. So I fitted an alternative one, run the bike for a day everything fine. Next day won't start fit new plug run fine, done this on 3 rides new plug everytime. So I fitted a proper on/off switch with wires between the coil and magneto wire and it is fine. I think it did not like running to earth like the new bike. Just a thought if you have fitted a different kill switch as I did.

Good news guys, run the bike on the weekend. Went sweet as a nut and no issue with the plug failing, started it everyday since without issue. Thanks again guys for the priceless advise.

Stu

I changed the points and condenser and fitted new power lead. Kicked it up and started first time. Will run it on the weekend and see if the problem has gone away. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the advise
-
I have points and condenser so I will change them. The bike has not been used for a couple of years. I've done all the major service items(carb, tank, filter, oil, and fitted new coil today). Will let you know how I get on

Anybody know why I keep blowing plugs on my nephews ty80?
I bought it a month ago, been out 3 times and had to change the plug 3 times.
Is there anything that might be causing the plugs to fail?
It seems to run all day perfect yet next day don't seem to get a spark, fit a new plug and away she goes again.
Any advise would be most appreciated

Where did you get the fork yokes from and cost?
Cant wait to see the finished article
-
Can bigger wheels be fitted to TY80 rather than the standard 16 front and 14 rear? If possible what are the options to fit?
-
Hey thanks Mark, that's an option I can use if the casing gets worse. I expect the internals are pretty similar except for gear ratio and bore
-
Apico do a tyre pressure gauge up to 15psi and they retail about £15. they also have the valve to release the pressure to what you require
-
Yep good result I actually won so well happy, can't wait for the next one

Andy,
I just bought a TLR and found a crack in exactly the same place. Someone had put chemical metal over it. But on taking the cover off to put new clutch plates and heavy duty springs I could not get the cover off. So I cleaned the filler off and low and behold was a bolt which I finally got out as it was bent due to the impact. So on inspection found the crack. so I done my clutch plates and springs and for now put new chemical metal until I can get it welded. I have a very slight weep of oil but not enough to stop me using the bike. Done my first trial on it on the weekend,12 points dropped and no oil problem.

Since I have fitted an OKO carb and it fits to the airbox sweet and the bike runs lovely, ready for my next trial Sunday 21st Hereford
-
Done my first trial in Vale of Towy, cold but dry day in quarry, Finished 4th and very happy with the bike. Did not start very good but finished the final 33 sections with 1 dab, all in all 22 dropped points from 49 sections. Doing the Hereford classic Sunday and can't wait.

Can anybody help, is there any interchangeability on the montesa alloy tanks. I have a 348 alloy tank which has seen better days. Just woundering if they are interchangeable across model range?
-
Piggybacked spade and added an extra wire to the coil and the earth of the switch to the frame and works a treat, Thanks guys.
On the other issue with the Mikuni carb I fitted the carb spacer off my TXT PRO and it fits pretty good. I found another alternative Cambstrials centre do a machined aliminium spacer for the TXT PRO for the Delorto carb for £20 so I ordered one of them the are suppose to be longer so I can try that, If no good I will use it on my TXT PRO.
-
Cannot find what mikuni model carb it is. where will it be on carb?
Will try what you said on kill switch. Do I splice it below the spade that fits on the coil or can I piggyback it off the original spade or has it gotta be before it?
-
OK found it and matches the frame.
Thanks

I want to fit a kill switch to my 348. The only wire being used is the black wire from stator to the coil(low tention circuit). Any suggestions on how to set it the kill switch up?
One more question I have a mikuni carb fitted but on the air filter side rubber there is a gap, is there an adaptor which fits to the carb and fills the gap to the air filter rubber?
-
Got the bike, now for some renovation work then getting back to riding a twinshock rather than my 2012 txt pro.
-
There are 2 digits on each side of the casings at the rear mounting point of the engine where it is bolted to the frame/swinging arm(36 stamped on each casing). The frame number is 51m1646
-
The cable bracket that holds the cable to the leg
-
I'm missing the bracket that fits on the fork stanction/mudguard brace. can someone give me an idea where i can get one or dimentions so i can get one made?
-
will it be a mix of numbers and letter like the frame?
