Well I never!
It was the factory kill switch, right in the sealed plug where the black & white wires go in & are crimped in to the very small female plugs.
After asking my local trials bike dealer to order me a new stator & cdi
I kicked the bike off last night & it ran no problem, so I looked at the plug while the bike was running & it cut out. i let go & kicked the bike off again & it fired up no problem, twisted the plug & it cut out. I did this a few times to make sure & then unplugged the stop switch & started the bike & it ran no issues at all. after that I cut off both plug connections bought some nice new ones & soldered them on & shrink wrapped the whole lot to keep the water out. Job done.
I took a closer look at the female plug & stripped it down to confirm things once & for all. Once opened you could see where the wires were earthing out.

Now that you mention it I have 2 on mine a button & a lanyard. I run them in parallel. but I only disconnected the lanyard one I fitted & left the factory fitted one. I guess I should pull them both to make sure. I dont think it is them though because it runs & then stops without touching them.

Hi All
My 2013 Beta Evo will not start or run when it does start. I have stripped down all the fuel side & it is clean. I then noticed that it does not have a spark. I stripped & cleaned down as many connections as I could while I was out on site but would not work. I look after it as I should by cleaning & removing the flywheel cover after every outing.
Is it likely to be the stator or should I be looking at something else?
thanks in advance, Nige

Update on my Geckos, about 5 trips out & I notice 3-4 splits in the side walls of the rear tyre- not happy anymore as I am not a rock or log hopper, basically been riding on clay & fine shingle. Be careful how low you go on pressure, I was running 3Psi but the splits may have been caused by the tyre spreading wide enough to catch the chain tensioner bold head when going over the odd bolder.

I also got told this about Dunlops. I have a new one fitted so I will be able to report back soon. I must say I have been out on mine twice now & I find it ok.
-
Thanks fellas,
the O rings were Black. I will use so high temperature silicon when I put it all back together.
-
I noticed today that I had a broken rubber mount on my exhaust so I need to replace it. I also noticed that my rear shocker spring has been rubbing on the silencer but it has not gone through. Signs that I have knocked the exhaust when I have fallen off my bike
I took off the silencer & noticed that as well as the two rubber O rings seals there was some kind of silica sealant. One of the O rings was split so I guess the sealant was somebodies quick fix or is it?
I have ordered the new mount & the seals but do I need anything else to seal the exhaust?
I may have also knocked the front pipe out of position by about 1/2 inch( not sure) will there be enough spring in the front pipe to get it all back into position with out it ripping the lower rear rubber mount again?
thanks

Sounds to me like your bike runs a open circuit but your kill switch & toggle switch are closed circuit.
Normally when you kick off your bike & it runs then the circuit is complete. When you press the kill switch it either makes or breaks the circuit & the bike stops. yours is doing the opposite- when you press your kill switch it is making the correct circuit
-
There are two types of circuits for kill switches- open circuit & closed circuit. It sounds like you have the wrong one. They either make an earth or break an earth connection. Which type of kill switch did you purchase?
-
Third time out on them today, brilliant tyre, loads of grip in the wet clay & very good in the river. I must say I like them very much.
-
Full set on Golden tyres, GT 355s gekko's & I love them. not a problem with them at all.
-
Right at last, the tyres were delivered last week GT355 Geckos. I ordered the front & back at the same time. Looking at them they look good quality. The knobbles very squidgy much softer than my Mich X11, more like the IRC's.
I mentioned to a few local trials shops that I had bought some golden tyres to try (No Names) the larger & more commercial of the 2 shop just said that I had wasted my money & that I would be better off using a set of bald Michelins. Nice & positive!
The one man band shop who I had to fit the tyres was more helpful & interested in how I get on with them.
Well I went out on them for the first time today & at the moment I can not fault them at all. I know they are new but they were better than the last new X11 I had fitted. The grip was brilliant in the clay, shale & in the river. I liked them but I will have to wait & see how long they will last.
They GT355's are definitely not a cheap tyre as they cost me moth than a set of x11's, I was impressed- lets see how they last.

About 30 years ago, my family used to own a mustard colored 250cc Bultaco Sherpa with a Francis Barnett engine. this was in the northeast of England. I know it was sold on when I was young, I was gutted as I didn't want mt dad to sell it. it a long shot but has anybody here ever come across a mustard colored Bultaco?
-
Haven trailsport, they should get delivered this week.
-
I hope that's not the case here in the UK, I have just ordered a full set of GT355 gecko's for my bike.
-
Totty, sent you some info on your private messages mate. I hope that helps with some lessons.
-
Sounds like fuel starvation. Investigate from the carb all the way back to the tank, just been told a story where the fuel tap was holding back a little blockage enough to fill the carb bowl but not enough to keep the engine running for long.
-
Many thanks for your help everybody. Dropping the clip seems to have done the job, no pinking today. I just have to get the air-fuel mix spot on & she will be right. I am on the bottom of the needle so any more & jet size would have needed changing.
-
Just get a bought a set for mine, will report back once they are fitted.
-
No reply so I have bought some gt355 geckos & I will report on how the fair.
-
Just dropped the clip on my carb needle it was already one down from the middle so is now on the bottom, then adjusted the air fuel screw. I will be out on the bike tomorrow or Sunday but it seams fine at the moment.
-
I set my adjuster screw all the way out & have compressed a heavy duty spring a little more. I would still like a bit more bounce so I think the next step is to upgrade the full shocker to an ohlins.
-
Well I filled the bike up with 99 octain fuel & 80.1 mix of good quality oil & the engine seemed much better. I don't think it has cured it fully but much improved.
Now what happens is when I rev the bike hard when it is under strain there is a sort of single slap or tap as I quickly shut off the revs.
I moved the air fuel screw from 1 3/4 turns to 2 turns. I think I would be better having the engine set up properly at a shop but I still hope it is not a bearing issue with the bike being less than a year old.
what do you think?
-
Are there any updates on the thoughts of these tyres. I am seeing some good initial comments on the first ride out but then nothing else.
Are they lasting?
-
not sure, I suppose it could but but I am usually on the bike going up hill when it does it so i can not check.lol
