Because I watch weekly my mates complaining or adjusting or fixing or fannying about and moaning about there gas gas, sherco and beta 2 stroke whilst I think to myself did I spray any oil on my chain this week or have I cleaned my air filter in the last 2 months...... And how much my riding has come on since I made the switch, and since I got my mont Iv never looked on eBay In the last 2 years of owning one for a new bike usually after my 2 stroke had let me down, extra weight blah blah blah change the record
I'm pretty sure all products have there limitation and this one wont wrap your bike in bubble wrap, think like this, if its saves you 1 snapped montesa rear mudguard then it's paid for its self 4 times over, I just cut my original switch out and soldered the magnet one in, lazy yep, but that's why I have a Montesa!!!
Has anyone fitted a timing chain kit as I was wondering what extra parts I would need, gaskets etc, what needs to come off? And anything else to watch out for??
Has any had there 4rt exhaust end cap off and had to repack the exhaust? mines the one with riveted end cap 2008 my. I know it's doesn't matter from a performance point of view as it would on a 2t but mine seems a little louder than my mates who both have 05 that have been de baffled??
Yeah did the sock filter, in the end it was a new throttle body that fixed it. The sock filter was well kankered up but made no difference when cleaned,
Dextron 2 or 3, it's used in some of the most complicated auto boxes(BMW, Audi) in he world which all stress and heat the oil much more than in a bike, and these boxes also contain clutch plates for smooth transfer etc. my mate tried allsorts of bought stuff putoline clutch tuner and alike and still got drag, hard to kick start. 1 flush of ATF then a refill problem solved
I did all the above on my mates 05 4rt, the tank filter was blocked, and there was a split air pipe, but even with these fixed it was still doing the fault you described, In the end a second hand throttle body sorted it off eBay,
Jimmyl, all the question you ask describe this fault really well, thanks everybody for your replies, il get him to drop it at my garage and check the sock filter, Iv had this on a Civic type r before we're instead of having a inline filter that can be changed on a service these are fitted on the tank pick up and get gummed up
Does this happen straight away or only after the bike has been running for a while? After bike starts to exhibt the problem does it get worse and worse as you keep riding? Does the bike then start and run fine for a short while prior to the problem returning? If yes to above then could well be the fuel sock. Had this condition occur on a couple of 4rts and initially change complete fuel pump assy which cured the problem. Second time I perservered with swapping and cleaning things and after a very thorough cleaning of the sock filter cured the problem. I found significant amounts of degreaser/carb cleaner and an air line did the job.
PS If it's not the sock and is the throttle body would suggest holding out for a PTB as makes the bike so much more tune-able
My friend has an 05 4rt which has recently developed a flat spot which caused the bike to cut out just at the wrong moment and has caused him to have a few major off's eg when applying a large amount of throttle at the bottom of a steep bank side from around half to full throttle the bike just totally baulks out, the local bike shop has tested the basics and he has cleaned the air filter and swapped the plug, I'm from a car back ground and if it was a car the first thing I would try would be a coil. Any ideas on we're to start looking would be a great help, thanks Luke
I was recently attempted to be sold an 07 Mont by a dealer, when I asked him to confirm the vin to me so I could check via the 9th and 10th digits to check the age it was an 05, any one had this? And is this the correct way to check the ages? I know from my Honda car back ground it is and that chassis/vin are he same lenth etc?
The bearings have been updated from 08 onward and are now 1mm in external diameter larger and 1mm in internal diameter smaller allowing for larger bearing rollers, look like Montesa only for supply at the moment...
If you go to a Honda car Main dealer parts department they will sell you some what they call zero thickness sealant which they used in the factory in Swindon were they make the cars, loads better that cheapo stuff from halfords and b&q and won't go off on the tube before u need it next
Does anybody know were I could get these front or is it main dealer only? I bought an apico kit of eBay which said it was all years but on closer inspection when it arrived the kit said 4rt 05-07 on it? my bearings are slightly larger, don't know if the shock rose joint is any different thought?
