Hi, Im trying to get some springs for the shock and the forks on a 2003 Gas Gas 280 pro.
Ideally i would like to get stiffer springs as i am 13 stone before kit.
I got told by a gas gas dealer to go through K tech suspension. But i emailed them and they said they don't do trials suspension.
Any help would be awesome

All you're doing is replicating a lap or two of between section going in a "proper" trial. Just ride the thing as it is and you'll be OK.
Yes i am doing that but i will be jumping the bike lots, doubles, step ups and drop offs. Not very big but will be using it for that.

Oh, yer your correct about the heat.
ill shake the container aswell!!
-
ill get on that tomorrow!
ill keep you posted.
The only other thing, would the shaking of the fuel in the back pack cause pressure to build up?? cos it would blow those plastic containers
-
Beta make a tank seat for their bikes but its something like $500!!
I like the number plate aux tank but to be honest i wouldnt want to attach the fuel lines ect in case of a crash and would rather stick the container in my back pack.
Do anyone know if an old plastic gear or pre mix oil container would melt with petrol in it??
-
Nope. looks like ill be sticking with some fuel canisters
-
Thank you i will.
I am currently in the process of road registering the bike and making a removable seat.
But i will document my progress.
Yer i think i will have to treat it like riding a mountain bike and use myself as alot of the suspension and get used to really moving around on the bike. I have ridden down hill mountain biking in the past but have gotten lazy over the last few years from jumping a motocross bike where the suspension does all the work for you.

Yer, i found this company in america
www.adventuremoto.com.au/index.php?cPath=27_54&osCsid=6ba516742c6b18d4daf3a87e9e2a5c75
but cant find anything in england
-
Dude, thank you.
I am atually going to print it and do what you said.
Most helpful advice yet!!!
-
True!! Maby wrap a town round them in the bag, bit of padding and stop them clashing together
-
Yer thats true, still wouldnt get far! For me its a bit easyier as i drive the van to where i want to ride and dont stray too far from it and have a jerry can in it. But for longer or more remote riding it will be tricky. Or take a few of those canisters in the back pack and take it off to session a place, then throw it back on to move on.
Wouldnt want to fall off and land on a backpack full of them though!
-
Yer ive been looking at the same stuff. at the moment ive ended up with a decent backpack with chest straps to keep it on and 2 x 500mm Fuel bottles

Ah thanks, thats awesome. So you run like 10psi for the more trail bits?
-
Guys, thank you for atually answering my question instead of just telling me that you cant do that to a trials bike!
Do you think putting stiffer springs front and rear and heavier oil in the front will be enough for small ish mountain bike jumps an a few drop offs??
Or should i really be thinkin about a new rear shock?
-
Ha, wish i had a group of people like you down here to ride with!!
How do you find your bike is holding up to the riding you do?? Mainly the suspension? over small jumps etc..
-
ok, so i know many of you are going to should at me about ruining a good trials bike blah blah,
but how have julian dupont and arthur coutard modded there suspension to allow them to do the big jumps?
Or do they just ride the bike till its trashed and get another??
I know arthur does freestyle and has the trials bike ramp jump record at 35 meters, and dupont also jumps and flips the bike alot.
any ideads??
-
yer i am down in south devon.

I absolutely agree. That is what i want to do and also what i find the most fun stuff to ride.
i have changed mine to try and make it a bit better but without custom made gearing, its never going to be a long distance bike.
I may have explained myself a bit badly. when i said im going to go trail riding, i didnt mean 8 hours down a flat fire road, i ment more single trail, hilly and technical trails. Not covering much distance but alot of riding in a short space.
The bike will go in the van to the place to ride, and will be loaded back up to go somewhere else.
i find you can have so much fun on just a small area with say, a dirt bank, a few tree roots and a shovel.
-
It has been modded so that the extras come off. the extra tank comes off, so does the seat. and a front sprocket is a 10 min job max. so its still a great trial bike. and i have a ktm for the dirt.
but have you ever ridden mountain bike single tracks an down hill type courses? unless your dave knight your not going to be able to do that stuff quick on a full dirt bike. plus the trials bikes are light enough to play around on an make small jumps fun, and endows, circle wheelies etc...... I cant do all that on the dirt bike but i can on the trials bike.
Check out this vid of Arthur Coutard and tell me this doesnt look fun!! (I know he is one of the best and i wont be able to do what he is)
I also remember reading an interview with Julian Dupont who said he thought the trials bike was the best all round bike for having fun, so why would he ride anything else.
I think if done properly, it could be a great bike. like a ktm freeride but with a bit more play factor.

I have gone up 1 tooth on the front so its now 11 and down on the back to 40. Thats the best i could find. Where can i get springs from?
I have sorted a larger tank and aux tank and hav even modded a pit bike seat to be cable tied on for longer rides when i want a break from standing. Its not huge so it doesnt get in the way for trails, but i would take it off for trials.
I will be doing some marshalling at enduros to get an idea of what it will be like.
Any other things i should be doing to it to help with the trails?
And are there any enduros with trials classes in them in England??

Thanks for the replys guys,
Yer i do have a ktm exc 250 2t for when i want longer fast stuff but i bough the trials bike for tighter single track stuff as well as tricky hills, a few jumps and generally going places an enduro bike wont go.
I imagine i will end up just doing small trials stuff rather than longer rides, but i recently bought a van so i can take to to where ever i want to ride. I just wanted to know weather they would handle tight single trail stuff with a few jumps thrown in!!
I basicly wanted a mountain bike with an engine that can be used for "stunting" and generally free riding.
So as long as they are good for that im set!! super excited to get out there and ride!!

Hi guys,
Im new here and to trials riding. I ride enduro but decided to get a gas gas 280 a few days ago.
Im sure this kind of thing has been covered but i have searched and would like a bit more help.
I know trials bikes are for trials etc but i would like to be able to jump and trail ride my trials bike. I love the low weight and how they react on trails. much closer to my mountain bike than my ktm enduro bike.
But how much damage will i do using the bike for that?? I know the gearing is all wrong but what else?
Yes the suspension is soft and not as strong as an enduro bike, but mountain bikes handle it so why cant a trials bike?
Am i really going to have a problem doing this??
Im not talking flat out fast fire roads for hours, more slower flowing trails with a few jumps and dropoffs.
I notice some pros doing FMX on trials bikes, will they be modded lots?
Sorry for all the questions but im sure you guys have lots of experience to help me out!
Many thanks
