I put the bike back together last night and started it thinking my problem may be solved!!! No its still the same, could it be that the main jet and or the needle be worn in the area of 1/2 to full throttle? as the bike runs fine in every other area.

Last night I deceided to take the top end apart to check how coked up it was, it wasn't to bad and I scraped the oily carbon deposit off of the head and the top of the piston with a wooden scraper. There were no scores in the bore or on the piston and only slight burn marks below the rings on the piston so I ordered a new set of rings just to be safe. The small end bearing and crank were also in good condition thankfully, once the rings arrive I will get it back together and fingers crossed it will run ok now.

Hi foley92,
I have a 98 techno and have had it about 2 years and have been able to get parts fairly easily, aswell as the suppliers mentioned already try Haven trials they have exploded diagrams showing the engine and the frame parts with part numbers and prices. Keep your eyes open on ebay as there are often bikes being broken for parts, good luck!

I did the exhaust today but I used a leister heat gun for welding pvc flexible sheets for roofing and lining, it gets up to 700 degrees when turned right up. It worked a treat and totally cleared both front pipe and middle box although there was a point when flames were shooting out of the ends of the pipes! I don't think they have ever been cleaned out and I can now see the honeycomb type material in the middle box and no carbon left inside, I think I will repack the silencer again and see how it runs now, I just hope this has done the trick.

Thanks Worldtrialschamp,
Is it possible to use caustic soda if I block up one end of the front pipe and the middle box and fill them with a solution. I do have access to oxy acetylene at work how would i go about burning it off without melting the middle box as its made of aluminium?
Where on the pilot jet can I see the size marked? What does the pilot jet do exactly?
Andy.

When I re pack my silencer I us the sheet type material which I cut to the length of the silencer then wrap around the baffle tube , I think it was made by Apico. I will get a new plug today and reassemble the bike and try pushing on the choke plunger to see if this makes a difference.
Very frustrating!! But thanks for the replies

how Would i remove all the carbon from the middle box and front pipe, I have had the entire exhaust apart before and the deposits are rock hard.
How would I go about cleaning the combustion chamber?
-
I have taken the choke mechanism out and it moves up and down ok, when starting from cold it increases the idle speed and decreases when pushed in. How will I know that it is fully closing?
-
It does smoke a bit and it does sort of misfire, but doesn't misfire. I have cleaned the carb out twice in the last couple of months and it is totally clean and my oil pre mix has been fairly rich which I have now changed to 70% and I also put new silencer packing in as the last lot had disintegrated. when the bike is on idle it almost sounds as if it is "four stroking" not like any other 2 stroke that I have had and I don't know how to change the carb settings to improve this.
-
Where is the pilot jet marked as I can't see any marking on it, I have also found that the fuel pipe has a big kink in it that was behind the carb that I couldn't see before stripping the carb out, could this be causing fuel starvation at full throttle?
-
Do the jets have sizes stamped on them?
-
I have been trying to set the carb up on my techno as the bike will not rev out cleanly when accelerating. So far I have changed the air box to carb rubber connector to eliminate air leaks, checked the inlet manifold and the reeds and these seam fine with no broken petals. I have put the needle clip into the middle groove and it is still the same!
Does anyone know what the standard jet sizes should be so I can check the ones fitted to my carb, this has been very frustrating as the bike starts and idles and unless its revved flat out it performs faultlessly.

I have taken the right hand fork leg off today and copied what the Italian link showed and reassembled the bike and it feels so much better. I think the old oil wasn't doing its job as it feels like I have proper damping at the front now.
Thanks for the advice.
Andy.

I have now drained the forks and taken the parts out of each leg and cleaned out the insides. I have put everything back together and refilled each leg with 360ml of 5wt oil screwed the caps back on and bounced the forks up and down as it says in the manual, it then says to unsrew the right hand cap to release the trapped air. I have done this but couldn't hear any air coming out.
Am I doing something wrong!
Andy.

Yes mine has drain bolts at the bottom of the fork legs, do I just drain them and undo the tops and refill with the required amount of oil. What difference would 10 wt oil make as they seem really soft to me?
-
I would like to change the fork oil in my 98 techno, how easy is it to do this?
Andy.
-
I have just taken the carb apart and the needle is clipped in the bottom groove meaning it is running at its richest setting, which groove should it be in?
-
Can any one tell me what weight fork oil I should put in my 98 techno forks as I'm going to take them apart and rebuild them over Christmas.
Andy.

I have cleaned all of the exhaust system, compression is fine it just seems to be running too rich and no reving cleanly at the top end of the rev range.
-
Does anyone know where to start with carb settings for my 98 techno, it starts and idles fine but doesn't rev very cleanly when accelerating through the gears. I am using a 70% mix and it has a new air filter.

Changed the plug for a new one today and it started after three kicks, it was a bit rich to start with but cleared after a while. I think it must of been a combination of a duff plug and being flooded after I left the tap on. Won't be doing that again, I did notice fuel coming out of a small brass tube which hangs down below the float bowl, i'll have to get the carb off and have a look at that.
Thanks for the replies and help.
Andy.

Yes it has a mikuni carb, I did see fuel leaking from a small brass pipe by the side of the float bowl last week but it seems ok now.
-
The plug in the bike when I got it was a ngk bp5es, is this the one I should replace the old on with?
-
The fuel is from a can I filled at the petrol station about a month ago.

Hi I tried starting my 98 250 techno this morning and had no joy, it started fine last week after I had changed the gearbox oil and air filter. It has fuel as the plug is wet when I take it out, but it also has a spark as ive had the plug laid on the head and turned it over by hand. I have had the plug in the bike since last October and its always started first or second kick, I hav'nt got another plug to try at the moment, what could be wrong?
