  1. I have a beta zero with a mini6 ignition. i have 2 flywheels for it, one is a lot lighter than the other. The heavier of the 2 is quite a lump, so I would say plenty heavy enough for a trials bike, if you want, I can weigh it... just so that you know if one would be heavy enough if you wanted to source one. I can confirm that the thread is 26mm / 1.5 pitch normal thread direction. Sorry for not replying before, but I've had trouble logging in
  2. Hi all. Sorry for the lack of input into the post, but I have had trouble logging in and staying logged in. As promiced, here is a picture of the bloke that used to own my 198b back in the day when he was a fresh faced youth. I think he said that he was 16 when it was taken.
  3. Or set the points and sit back and gloat about how much you have saved! ;-)
  4. Why do you worry about the difference between 2.75 and 3mm. These bikes have engines that run on a setting between 5 mm and 2mm before Tdc. Today at a trial my friend had ignition woes... Turned out the condensor was toast. The points were badly pitted, I took some sand paper to them,(not ideal, but it was all I had in the van). After cleaning them up and changing the condensor he reassembled the ignition without even checking the timing and it ran fine... You don't need the ignition on these bikes set spot on to run. Are the points new or is the lifter that runs on the cam worn?
  5. Apparently he had an all chrome bully at one time... I wonder where that is?
  6. Hi. A belated merry Christmas to all. Thanks for the posts... Keep em coming!!!(interesting stuff to us bultacophiles). The reason that I started this thread is because last year I was blundering around a section... as I normally do. At the end of the section the guy who was observing asked me if I was enjoying the day and riding the bike. He said that he was pleased that the bike was being used still. I thought that he was on about the fact that most of the white framed bully's were in museums or tucked up in centrally heated garages, but it turned out that he used to own the bike back in the 80's. Later to become quite an accomplished rider. He told me that the very slight dent in the top of the tank happened when he ran over one of the Barron Knights whilst traveling between sections! He sent me a photo of himself riding the bike... back in the day, I will ask him if he minds me posting it on this thread, so hopefully more to come yet. I'm glad you like the thread Larry, I have been thinking of starting it for a while, just hadn't got round to it... I think that it may be quite popular!!!
  7. As the title says, do you have anything that you think makes your bikes history a little bit more unique. There must be some really interesting stuff that has gone on in the lives of these bultaco's.
  8. In my experience powder coating front pipes is a total waste of time and money... Best sticking to high temperature paint.
  9. The best way to get the springs and pins back in the clutch is with a tool. If you don't want to shell out for one, you could always make one. I took this route, but tbh I could have earned enough to buy several in the time it took me to make it.
  10. Try putting those crank seals in for starters buddy
  11. Hi. A quick update, today I had some free time for the first time in ages... and it's running. Turns out the ebay stator had some wires that had damage to the insulation that had been covered with black sheathing. I tried both of the flywheels and they are fine (one has been lightened so I now have a choice). I havn't tried the stator that was fixed by bradford ignitions because I was so pleased to get it going again that I spent the rest of the day riding it and tinkering with other stuff. Thanks everyone for your help, sorry it took so long to get round to having a look.
  12. The magnets are fine, various tools were picked up during assembly and stripping down. I will do some checks when I get chance. Many thanks once again... That site that you linked pschrauber looks interesting I'll have a good look when I get a few mins.
  13. Thanks for your replies folks. All parts were cleaned carefully before assembly... several times! yes the ht coil mount is spotless, dito flywheel both around the magnets and where it sides onto the end of the crank. Thanks gas gas, that's just what I'm looking for, some voltage readings. I'm glad that you mentioned the fact that it's unusual for more that one ignition componant to be faulty... that's exactly what I was thinking... esp. when I bolted it all back on and it still didn't work. At least I now have quite a stock of motoplat parts. I believe that it was always Steve Hardacre(forgive me if this is spelt wrong), running B.I. If so then yes, same guy running it now. Oh I forgot to mention that I tried a ducati ignition off the synt and it worked fine... but the synt needed it back, prehaps if I get no joy I could get one of those to use. Thanks again everyone. I'll check those readings and let you know.
  14. Hi. I am having trouble getting a spark from our zero. I have sent the whole motoplat system, bar the flywheel off to Bradford ignitions. Steve checked it and repaired the stator and the coil. I reasembled everything... but no spark! I emailed Steve and he said that it could be the flywheel. He asked for some pics to visually check and said that it looked good. No more contact from Steve. So I purchased a zero motoplat ignition from ebay, the seller assured me that it worked fine. Still no spark. I have tried all possible combinations of original and ebay parts to try to eliminate any duff parts. I have removed the cut out switch. My question is, do you think that this could be a bad earth caused by corrosion at the engine mountings?

    Oko/mikuni

I quite like them, but find them a bit sharper off idle. Because of this we have returned to mikuni. If you do go down the oko route make sure you don't buy one of the mega cheap ones I bought one and used it for about six months and the chrome had started to wear on the slide, this has also happened on the more expensive one after about 18 months!... not good!

Have you tried Mr Weeden at billet parts, very helpful, nice bloke and loves bultaco's
  18. As Mr Pigbog says, they ride very nicely with this flywheel... the 250 has quite soft power delivery compared with the bigger engines anyway... I luv how they run!
  19. If I need to know how many rpm on an engine that has no tacho, I just clip on a tacho that I bought when the boys were into minimoto's, ( they work from the pulse on the ht coil). The one we have is a pulse pet 2000 or summit like that. It is great whilst the bike is sitting, but not sure how easy it would be to read on the move. Prehaps you may find something suitable if you look for karting tacho's.
  20. Nice to hear about people enjoying themselves. We use original clutches and find that they work well, I have one engine that has a sharp clutch. 300 ml atf works well for most. Have you set the clutch as in some of the earlier posts? As long as you follow the advice given by woody etc, you should find that helps. Esp check that the plates are true, actuator arm is at 90°, also check that all components are present / assembled correctly. Also as we spoke about before, leavers are an important factor.
  21. It looks like all but one of the gaps between the metal plates with tangs on is solid,is that the case. Also can you see friction material or does everything look to be metal? what oil are you using? good to hear that you are back on two wheels:-)
  22. They love the astro in the states too. I have fancied one of those for ages... but I would be too much of a wus to use it properly... Oh and I can't afford one!!!
  23. I'm a big fan of dehumidifiers... no pun intended!
  24. Hopefully not stating the obvious, but some say to put the condensor up on the frame near the ht coil to keep it cooler, therefore helping reliability. I havn't noticed any improvement on my M49 over mounting it in the standard position. It is easier to change or to mount a spare one next to it... just in case tho.
