  1. Hiking boots without a doubt!
  2. Nigel Birkett says you can alter the tickover without remapping and I have seen a rider doing it in the Bemrose trial
  3. Mine isn't too bad to start but there is a technique. From cold 5 pushes down on the kickstart to prime then 2 hard kicks to fire up but the critical thing is i have to open the throttle immediately it fires or it wont go. When warm its just one kick but again its critical to open the throttle immediately when it fires. I wonder if the tickover is a touch low so I may try tweaking it. If only I could make the clutch a bit more user friendly!!
  4. I'm just looking at improving my security. Can you tell from the chain how they cut through it. I hear that they use plumbers freezing aerosol to make the chain brittle and just hit it sometimes. I feel now that mechanical methods of security are essential in that they slow them down but alarms are the only real way of stopping them. I am looking at an alarm that will ring my phone when activated. Also there are alarms that activate a smoke generator and fill your garage in seconds. I feel it is better to have 2 alarms installed that operate in different ways. Last time I had an attempted burglary the alarm stopped them. They came the next night and cut the alarm wires but the tamper set the alarm off again. As always it's better doing preventative measures before the worst happens but most of us leave it till after. (I will look at a better system today)!!

    Setting Sag ?

Speak to Chris at Splatshop. He knows how to do it as he gave me a lesson yesterday.
  7. I'v not heard of anyone be influenced by all these views on what is the right or wrong rule so basically your all wasting your typing fingers!! This argument has been going on for years and will continue for years. The simple and obvious remedy is to run both "Non-stop British championship" the same as the world championship rules and "Stop-allowed British championship". All it needs is a championship class in the S3 championship. This can be toughened up if necessary to the required severity to suit the standard of riders but leave the expert class and clubman route alone. Riders can ride what rules they want then.
  8. So which is the quickest? We have been going one way then the other and now were back to the first way!!! We have also been for a trip through the middle of Glasgow once . That definitely wasn't the quickest! We tend to go Stirling way now.
  9. I think entry fees will have to go up a bit to pay observers. If it was £20 to observe i think more people would have a go. Everything else seems to of been tried. 10 sections would be £200 so divided between 50 riders its £4 each. A lot of clubs already pay something anway so it wouldnt add a great amount to the entry fee.
  10. Sometimes it's best to find a bolt of the right diameter and push it in one side. This must be long enough to reach through into the gearbox casting. Then put your swinging arm bolt in from the other and tap it through knocking the bolt out in the process.
  11. I am a big IRC fan. I have used them for years without any issues but I have had to give up with them now. I just got fed up of flat tyres spoiling my trials. When I took the last one off and measured the diameter it was substantially bigger than the Michelin I fitted. That has stayed up since without any issues. When IRC make them to fits correctly I will buy again but I will want a guarantee from the supplier that it will stay inflated correctly. Of riders I know who use IRC I would say 75% have had this issue.
  12. These videos are an excellent display of why no-stop will fail at top level. It just shows that it's not the rules but the observers decision that is the problem. I want no-stop to work but it will obviously fail judging on all the various different views just on one section. The "stop for a one" rule would of sorted this section so easily. Let's face it, unless a mechanical system for scoring is implemented which takes observers out of the picture then we will be having these same arguments in 10 years time. Bring back "stop for a one". The best compromise that suited riders and observers for many years till the FIM decided to change back to stop allowed in world trials. A big mistake in my view.

    Golden Year

Quote (2008/9 better than 2010/1.) Not a chance would I go back to the older bike. I have had both the 2011 and 2010 and they are both excellent bikes. Never be influenced by peoples views on forums as some have bad personal views and then tar all with the same brush!! The 2010 had an issue with a poor weld on the fuel tank. This was sorted under warranty. As far as I am aware there were no other issues in general.
  14. What do you want them to do differently and what is wrong with trials as it is now?
  15. The best all round rule was "stop for a 1". Not perfect but it was a good compromise. The observers liked it and most riders did. It worked for many years till the ACU followed the FIM to the present set of rules. I don't think non stop will work because a fair few riders are determined to not let it work.
  16. They start at Blackwater dam
  17. Chances are it's the breather pipe blocked or nipped. Easy cure is to discard the one way valve, shorten the pipe and route it out of the rear under the mudguard. Often the breather gets crushed under the aluminium tag that keeps the pipe in place under the mudguard
  18. Now the pictures are clearer it doesn't look as good as it did before. However in real life it may look better. Just shows you have to see them in the flesh!
  19. A picture of the angled spacer I made to make room for the Keihin car choke lever. Not the neatest engineering but it works!
  20. I have a keihin on a 2011 250. Very good, no problems. Fitting is a bit of a task as the choke lever will be too close to the black electrical box. I made a v shaped block to angle the box forward for clearance, quite a simple cure. Splatshop sell Keihins and ship worldwide. Thats where mine came from.
  21. I thought Bou had 1 dab and Dabill had a 5 on the night. I will watch it again and pass judgment with the benefit of Sky + As for Jack Burnicle I think he does a very good job of what must be a very difficult task but he was wrong on his view of the controversial "dab or five". The poor part of the Eurosport coverage is the editing or whatever its term is. Now that would be better with someone who understands trials so we don't end up with a close up of a sprocket at a critical time!!!
  22. You get what you pay for, Perces find is very suitable for riding the Scottish whereas the lidle is perhaps suitable for walking down Main Street in a shower!
  23. Massive entry in the program. 198 riders!!!! Start at 2 riders a minute, section 2 is usually a big graded hill that takes a lot of getting up to the top and takes well over 1 minute to ride on average. Take a book to read Usually a good run round with a bit of everything including streams and rocky limestone outcrops. 7 hours time limit which is usually ok but with such a large entry it could be tight.
  24. These videos clearly show why "stop for a 1" was the fairest rule. In most of these cases the rider would of been happy with a "1" for stopping but not happy with a "5" for a debatable stop. I wouldn't of fived any in these videos if I was observing. Most observers I know allow a slight hesitation but give a five after a count of say 1 second for example, some tighter, some easier. I ride mainly no-stop trials through choice and one of the main reasons is shown in Alex Wiggs video!!!! He's only using the rules to his advantage but doesn't it look boring. On another note if you were at the Colmore you will no how big and slippy the sections were. It's amazing how a video camera can flatten a section!!!!
