  1. Be aware that the shape of a tubeless valve on its underside will not allow all the water out of your airbox. A small amount will stay in. The mod is really only for draining the air box as a quick fix. For the bike to run well all the time you need ALL the water out. Most riders clean or at least check their filter every ride and then check the airbox for water. Easy!!
  2. I had a rev 3 with a valve fitted in the air box. In 2 years I used it once and virtually nothing came out. When do you get the water in? Is it after washing or riding? I have always found the airbox on the beta to be one of the best for not getting water in. And I have ridden in some pretty deep water!! Easiest method for getting water out of airboxes is a bit of sponge on a stick! Forget the valve.

    Hey Fat Lad !

Nowt wrong wi wellies for Scotland. I was the only one with dry feet last year . Tell a lie. When we carried the bikes through that big river they did get a splash in them I also had a seat for a couple of years on the Scorpa. If I hadn't I wouldn't of been able to stand back up after those little road bits!! See your on Sherco Ishy. Two of us are on 2010 models. Also that Scotland virgin beginner Cabestany is on one behind us. Should be good for a few factory bits We'll let him cary the spares. He's younger than us!
  4. Hi, we may see you at local trials. Anything you want to know, just ask.
  5. Not carrying a watch may not be a bad idea. I spend all week panicking about the time but can't go any quicker even if I wanted to!! Only problem with no watch could be the timed return home which happens on some days. You wouldn't know what time to go to the timekeeper at the parque ferme.
  6. Never got there! We couldn't make it off our road. 5" of snow this morning in about 3 hrs so we were non starters. All trials off in our area today.

    April Trials

Lomax, Chris Carter and Victory. Not sure if they are too far north.
  8. Wonder if No-stop and 2 routes are the reason
  9. The key with keeping the tyre on the rim is to repair the puncture as soon as you notice the tyre running flat. Never keep going on a flat or it will come off the rim. A lot of riders run with dunlops on the rear as they are a very tight fit and don't come off the rim like michelin do. Keep a pack of dog turds with you and some gas bottles are handy. Always have a pump and keep a bit more air in your tyres than you would in regular trials.
  10. Paypal is an easy way to pay. Entering trials events would be so much easier. Perhaps the ACU could encourage clubs to consider using it.
  11. Totally agree. Indoors should be a show rather than a championship.
  12. I have done it quite regularly. Cutting on the surface of the tread is legal. Widening the gap between the treads above 9.5mm is not. To cut the grooves I use a 4.5 angle grinder with a narrow cutting disc. A lot quicker than a knife!!

    Ymsa

That little squirt wants to go to the YMCA. Wait till I see him in his long leather boots!!
  14. I would of thought this was easily cured by having the timekeeper make a list of everyones time as well as marking their time on their punchcards. A lot of nationals I have done don't mark punchcards with late finish at all.
  15. I am sure this proposal will fail as it unnecessarily affects a lot of clubs in the East Midland Centre. The problem is only in and around the Peak district of Derbyshire. Within a 30 mile diameter circle around this area about 15 clubs operate!!! Some run a lot of trials during the year. From Pathfinders club in the south to Hillsborough in the north, Sutton Falcons in the east to Macclesfield club in the west. This involves 3 diffferent centres overseeing trials in a small area. Trials sport is struggling in this area. Those clubs with good land and a reputation for putting on a decent trial are getting good entries. Good entries mean a good turn out of observers. Everyone is happy. Any club running on a date that clashes with them will usually have a poor entry and few observers. To run the trial they then do one of the following. 1. Riders observe themselves. 2. Reduce the number of sections and have more laps (5 laps of 8). 3. Run some double subs (you end up riding 6 sections when you thought you were doing 10!!) 4. put the observers board out and hope someone picks it up. Next trial they run, even fewer riders turn up and the problem gets worse. What seems more sense to me would be a some arrangement for communication between these clubs. Or even a new "trials only" centre created for this area. Most riders rarely venture out of this area anyway except for nationals or other large trials.
  16. This is where the clerk of the course ends up with the wrong information at the end of the day. He sees on the results that a lot of riders got through for threes when really they fived it. He might of laid it out a bit easier next time if he had known the true story.

    Two Fer

I can understand that in some circumstances hopping allowed rules would suit a 'flat field with a ditch' trial down south. No problem. Have the rule to suit the venue. But to take these rules to better venues is where the problem lies. It spoils what can be good sections if riden non-stop. The worst trials are the ones using a tight turn to take marks when they have land to take marks without. It is obvious that the rule problems originate from the North-South divide in the UK. Nowadays most southern riders are happy to head north to ride. Rarely will the northern riders go south. I think this was not necessarily the case before hopping rules came in. A fair number of southern national trials have disappeared over the years. Did the hopping rules lead to their demise? I think trials will never find a common rule to suit all camps. All this arguing for one or the other is just putting off the inevitable. Therefore it would be best to split the sport in the UK. All adverts and entry forms should state which rule is applicable at the event. A 'non-stop British trials championship' should run alongside a 'stop allowed championship'. Same at all centre events. Let the riders decide the future.
  18. Bring back no stop. Non of this messing about with those rules!!!
  19. No rules allow you to go backwards. Not 1 inch. Nothing. But saying that a lot of observers allow a bit of rocking back and forth. Not penalising a rider according to the rules is basically unfair on the riders who ride correctly.
  20. So if Spain is possibly not going to use the FIM world championship rules then does that mean we can do something different as well

    Steve Peat

I know its not really trials news but Steve Peat has won the World Downhill Mountain BIke Championship. Steve does ride in motorcycle trials regularly in our local centre. Well done to him!
  22. One for a stop was the best compromise but it needs to be enforced across the board to work. This is the only sport I can think of where the interpretation of the rules varies according to what part of the country you ride or how a club or individual wants to do it. How would the football league work if all the clubs didn't use the same rules?
