  1. Looks like hopping rules spoilt the inter centre team trial this year with big delays in the sections leading to time problems for the riders.
  2. Personally I liked stop for a 1 and I think we will be back to it sometime. We would still have it if the world rules hadn't changed to the rubbish rules we have now. However it needed the ACU to lay the law down and get clubs to stick to the rules. Instead they left it to clubs to do what they wanted. The basic observing system should be printed on each section begins card. Then the observer and riders would know what rules they are using. There are many trials I have ridden where the observers and riders don't even know what rules to use!!!
  3. Whatever the rules you can't please all of the riders all of the time. I don't think anyone is saying that "non stop" is perfect. Its main failing is the interpretation of what is a "stop". Most observers allow a hesitation. Some don't. This is where "stop for a 1" works and was a good compromise for many years and I think is the rule which we should go back to. Its downfall was soft observing. If the ACU had only allow trials to run that stuck to the rules (a stop is a 1) we wouldn't be in this position of going "non stop" However it seems we will be going to "non stop" so its best if we all try it properly before writing it off. A local club to me uses non stop without any problems and it uses a very southern type venue. When they have to use hopping rules for centre champ trials its a lot harder to take marks so the sections have to get tighter to suit. Result-rubbish tight sections.
  4. Totally agree. The best grips I have ever used.
  5. I thought it was to keep the sport affordable to all. Not just for those who can afford multiple bikes. Also not all parents ride a bike so those that don't would then be at a disadvantage. While we are on the subject when did it become acceptable for parents to go in the sections showing riders the line, kicking out rocks, trying to influence the observer, holding bikes in queues whilst little johnny looks at section, etc etc. And this is just at club and centre trials. I guess its worse at Nationals. From what i have seen some parents are getting too big for their boots and their kids are following in their footsteps!! I thought only the rider could get the bike round the course and only the rider was allowed in the section unless to catch with the observers permission. The idea of parents on bikes as well. Not good!!!
  6. Takes a bit of thinking about. No pay rise but still got a job or dole. You decide whats best!!!
  7. Hi Eiger, we used to have an air tank off a scrap lorry which we used to fill up with the workshop compressor before going to a trial and keep in the van. Used to put about 130psi in it. However we rarely used it so stopped taking it. The best thing is to not keep riding but fix the puncture before the tyre comes off the rim. Michelin are far more prone to coming off the rim than dunlop.
  8. Dead easy to get a late number in this trial. You don't even have to be on a Gas Gas. Just watch out in the press for the entries being out, get an entry form and send it straight back. Simple!!! Well done to Hillsborough mcc for an excellent trial. Sections were spot on for me. Nice and straightforward with no silly trick riding needed using some of the best trials land in the country.
  9. I guess he knocked over the begins card or something similar as you couldn''t see him do much wrong in the section. However he did get away with a mark in a section earlier when he dabbed twice but only got a 1. It was a very poor section going through the same markers twice. Looks like the qualifying lap was the real trial. It must of been a lot harder than the final.
  10. Did the new observing rules work better than 'stop for a 1' rule with this trial. Did it slow down the flow of the trial leading to delays. Were observers happier with it.
  11. It still can't be beaten for the 'regs available' section. That is really the main reason I still buy it.
  12. Not the ideal beginners bike. Find something 250cc max. Any make will do. Old ty is an excellent starter bike.
  13. And you want me to go up there!!! Worst thing is a camera flattens things out

    Cooling Fan

I thought the lighting used a different power source than the ignition so won't affect how the bike runs. However the non standard fan may use more power and not run at the desired speed.
  15. I thought the line between the side marker flags was not exactly a straight line but was what the course plotter intended. We often lay out sections up steep banks and gulleys etc which will be far from being a straight line between the markers at the start and those at the end.
  16. Best not giving your address to people coming to view a bike for sale. I always give directions to a meeting point a couple of miles away from home. Get a landline phone number and a name. You can soon check if it matches. Mobiles are a problem for checking up on them. Selling on Ebay is a problem as someone who wins the auction then has in most cases your name address supplied to them by Ebay even if they don't complete the purchase. Not sure if there is a way to prevent this.

    My Day...

Could of saved a lot of time and diesel and gone to Sheffield and Hallamshire trial at Dronfield!!!
  18. I would doubt that they chose for the recession to come now. At last a bike with airbox and carb in a sensible place. Lets hope its a success and we all support British industry rather than pulling it to pieces before it even starts!
  19. Thorpey might just have some comment for you about that quote!!!
  20. If it is called a fuel tank I don't see the problem. Lots of lorries have 2 fuel tanks so why not bikes!!
  21. Not in our area. A second or two might be let off but that was it but a lot of observers did it to the rule. Stop for a 1 worked well for us. Pity its gone.
  22. There must of been a fair few trials under the new rules that have been run including a national. How did you like riding or observing under them. Did they lead to bigger queues, are they easier to ride, is observing easier etc. etc.

    Rev 3 Falling Apart

Not much wrong there really for a 2006 bike which could of done towards 200 trials in its life.
  24. I don't understand why people are against them before giving them a chance either.
