  1. Sitting in queues at sections Yep. Worrying when you think about it isn't it? I read a report on emissions a few years ago concerning the chemicals which are not filtered out of exhaust gas until a cat reaches running temperature. The writer of the report came to the conclusion that you should avoid coming into contact with exhaust emissions at all costs until your cat warms up. Imagine what he would have said if he'd been asked to consider a dozen trials bikes running unleaded fuel mixed with oil all sat in a queue waiting their turn with engines running. He also researched the effect of breathing unleaded petrol fumes, these fumes are also very bad for you. Forgive me if I am wrong but don't American petrol pumps make an air tight seal over the filler because of this? I'll try to find the report and see if there's a link I can post, it makes interesting reading for any petrol head. I had heard some time ago that emissions from unleaded fuel was more dangerous if it went through an engine without a cat converter. Seems to me that we should avoid sitting in queues with bikes running blowing exhaust fumes into the face of those behind. (we had this topic about a year ago and a couple of very knowledgable tykes said there was nowt to worry about!!!!)
  2. Thanks for that Rocketron. I had considered insertind some sort of rigid ring inside the rubber pipe to hold it out to improve the shape of the rubber. Also I had thought of cutting off the outlet on the airbox and aiming it at the carb better and then welding it back on.
  3. Rocketron, can you explain which bit you were trimming to get a better fit.
  4. Having trials running under one observing rule in the UK will not work unless the rule is full no stop! To most riders in the UK the rules used in the British, world or euro trials championships are of little importance. It would become important if the "world rules" came in to use in club trials they ride. I think it would be very unpopular and trials in the UK would see a large decline in popularity. At the moment trials in the UK are as popular as I have ever known with most good nationals running with full entries and club trials regularly running with 100+. Richmond seem to have massive entries and I think they run on no stop rules! (could be wrong on this) It is hard enough to find 10+ observers now. If they have to operate a stopwatch as well as observe I doubt if we will have as many willing to help. If trials are run without a time limit in the section the queues are going to get out of hand whilst little superstars pose before the two foot step. The world rules would not make trials any easier or better for the average clubman. Surely the way ahead is for the "world rules" to change to a more sensible format. Watching trials dvds of 2006 season is similar to watching paint dry. There is no flow to the riding. The critical skill seems to be hopping into the right spot rather than actually riding the section. Seems to me that things are pretty good for UK trials at the moment. Lets not ruin it by going back to the rules used in the 90s (the young ones won't remember how bad it was at times) Is there a way for any individual to lobby the FIM or is it down to the ACU or their foreign counterparts? 5. I think Dave Thorpe was something to do with this cure originally. The grease seals up the gaps and stops corrosion on the spokes. I have done it for many years with 100% success as do a lot of top riders I know. Try it. I am sure you will cure the problem this way.
  6. Scorpa 3. Save yourself loads of time and trouble. Take the rim tape off, put a bit of automotive grease on the end of every spoke and a thin layer on the underside of the tape and refit. Costs about 20p at most. End of problem.

    2007 Bc

Definately last years. Not sure why though!!!
  8. Let me get this right. You are saying run without the chain tensioner? Braver man than me.!!!
  9. Try putting the clutch lever further on to the bars so your finger works nearer the end of the lever. I have perhaps a 2" gap between the grip and the clamp and never have any problem. Mark T

At least he knows what he's talking about.
  11. The biggest hassle of all is messing with tubes. Don't even think about it!!!!

    Sounds good to me!
  13. Bikespace I agree with Betarev3, clashing with the Hipwell will cost you a lot of entries. I know its probably too late for next year but its worth trying to avoid it for future years. As for the colmore I see it as a great pity to lose the top riders from competing because its too easy. Surely better to run as a national on its own merit with 2 routes (clubman and hard) than be part of the novogar series. What do you gain by being a part of it?

Make it cool glorious sunshine please. The hot stuff is hard work for the riders
  15. Dead right RT. The world series will die unless they make it easy enough for the best 10 riders in ALLcountries which run trials to a reasonable standard ie USA, Eirland, Uk, France, Germany etc for example. If its then too easy for some well tough. They will just have to go round clean to win. Might then get to a reasonable international entry, perhaps 70 riders or more on the hard route which will help trials survive.
  16. Very good trial. Big entry to say the least!!.The observers had a tough day as it was very cold. Only bad bit was the queues. Perhaps been better to set off the road trial at one of the other groups to split it up a bit.
  17. Scorpa 3 On your recommendation I will have a go this next year at the Colemore. I just hope the other rounds will follow what you are aiming at. Somehow I can't see one or two other clubs doing the same. Might be an idea if those of us who do the Novogars next year report on the trial on here so the ACU get a running update of whether their aims are being met. Mark T
  18. I think the "clubmans championship" would be better run on the clubman route with a hard route option available for the clubs who want to cater for the top riders. So rather than introduce a easy route to the present format you are adding a hard route on some sections. The other option is for the clubs to not take part in the series if they want to have a clubman route. They wouldn't be any worse off without it in many cases. The Yeadon & Guiseley round is way too hard for me as it is now so if run as a national on its own it could have a clubman route which I am sure would be full every year.
  19. This series is in a catch 22 position. Its too easy for the good lads and its too hard for the majority of clubman route riders. It also seems to have problems with who is eligible to ride it. Some very good experts are ok some are not. I can't see a problem with having an easy route as well if the idea of the series is for it to be suitable for "centre experts". That level is beyond most riders. I would support an easy route. One way round the problem may be to run a "open to centre" trial on the same sections at the same time but using yellow/white flags with a separate entry list and results. I have seen this done at a national before now. One route =70 riders=not a lot of income Two routes=130 riders=a good income for the club Doesn't take a lot of thinking about.
  20. One of the best trials of the year. The new last group was a bonus. It didn't rain either. Well done!
  21. Pirelli used to be the tyre for frozen ground. Not used one for 15 yrs so don't know if it still applies.
  22. Just put automotive grease on the end of every spoke, coat the underside of the rim tape with the same grease and refit. Your leaks will stop and its cheaper and easier than messing with silicone or fitting montesa wheels.
  23. I use disposable hand warmers in my gloves in cold weather. I have never found a warm glove that is thin enough on the palm to ride trials with so the hand warmers give the best of both worlds. Mark T
