Good post explaining how it all works. Nice to know that a lot of thought goes into the selection process.
I had wondered if some form of prepayment system could be used.
Eg;
1. Pay entry fee to the ACU for all rounds in one go and you get priority entry to the events so anyone wanting to do the whole series can.
2. Pay when regs come out for each round and take your chance at getting a ride.
Might not be perfect but you would end up with riders who want to do all the championship getting preference.

Had the same problem. Had to reconnect to the site each time for every day to be printed. Bit of a pain but it works. I put a note on the ssdt forum about it'

stuartc,
There were big queues all the way round. The club usually don't use punchcards but the ACU made them use them this year. They didn't allow anymore time than normal to allow for punching cards and it slowed the job down. Also there was some longer sections this year

Both routes are very sensible with mainly straight natural sections, no need for tight turns as they have some of the best trials land in the country.
No going up a bank, round a tree, down to the bottom and hop round and up round another tree. Its all good stream beds and rocky outcrops etc.
Its hard work if your only used to club trials as its probably 50 sections, 1 lap with a 7 hour time limit and you will need it all!
Be quick with your entry as I heard today they have 90 entries allready.

The Jack Wood National Regs are out. 27 March. Sheffield.
This is one of the best road trials. About 50 sections,1 lap on some of the best land in the country. 2 routes.
Regs on their website http://www.hillsboroughtrials.co.uk/

Perhaps they could make a rule banning males from wearing them and another that females have to wear them.

Does anyone think its worth considering having a clubman route at the Novogar trials.
It would help make up the entry numbers as most clubmen I know find the single route is often too hard for our riding standards.
We all know the clubman route in a lot of trials makes the event worth running financially.
It may also encourage some of the better two route nationals to think about being a round of the series.
Now its not called the clubman championship I can't see any reason not to consider it.

Some sunshine would be nice but not too much. Think it would kill me if it was hot all week!

Put a section on the top of the hill before dropping down to laggan but don't tell anyone. Soon find out who nips round the road!
I think some way of clocking off after the last section of the day would help to stop the race in to the parce ferme but still a lot would race in to get a bit of maintenance time. It would need a time allowance to get back with some kind of checkpoint at the entrance to the car park to hold riders till they had used their travelling allowance.
Seems a lot of trouble but may have to happen one day to stop the "race". It is really a bad picture of our sport that some drivers in Fort William have to witness.

I can't see why the ACU don't allow a few more riders than 55. Most of the British champ rounds are held during long daylight hours so another 15-20 riders probably wouldn't be too much of a problem.

I like the basic idea of the seat. I had a seat last year made of 20mm thick of foam sheet. (Campers use it under sleeping bag). Had kind of wondered if it could be made with a pocket to slide a few tools in as well. Wouldn't hold anywhere near as much as your seat so would still need to take a bag as well. Good luck with your creation! These young uns will understand when they get to our age

Road work was very very cold. Good trial overall. Last two days of rain made a few sections very slippy. Second lap rode a lot easier after tyres dug through to some grip. Steve Colley won I think.
Never saw police this year. A good day out.

Very busy day, some of the best riders in Britain to watch, good snap van, loads of bikes to ride free of charge, beautiful Buxton weather, what more could anyone want. I even thought I saw a Lampkin van there but might of been a mirage!,

To be fair on this topic it didn't suggest a rule where you get a 5 mark penalty or exclusion for it. No reference was made to what you do in a lift or anything about lighting a fag up or turning your car off in a queue on the road. If you look in the ACU handbook there are loads of things that most of us would think common sense but are rules, eg drug use, long sleeved shirts, tyre size, the size of the round end on your levers etc. I haven't heard of anyone being penalised for flouting these rules. Beginners look in the handbook for guidance to what is right and wrong. That is what I was suggesting. Not instant exclusion or a firing squad.
Up on the moors above Skipton a bit of exhast fumes isn't even worth a mention but in a little stream in a wood on a still day with riders crammed together queuing it can be a problem. It may not cause someone to roll up and die there and then! Perhaps the gasses arn't harmfull. I leave that to others who know better.
95% of riders are considerate but the few that are not need a bit of guidance thats all. Eg; Some will not know that route marking between sections in some circumstances must be followed till the club secretary has to announce that the land was lost because a few riders didn't realise.
Just guidance
-
I think it is mainly just ignorance of the problem. They don't realise what they are doing. This is why I think the ACU should issue rules/guidance.

Went to a trial the other day and sat in a few queues. No great problem with that except for the riders who think your not allowed to turn off your bike engine once the trial has started! A few sat with engines running in queues of 10 to 15 riders till it was their turn to ride. A rider said to me if it was a business the Health and Safety officials would of shut it down! I think if you want to top yourself exhaust gasses are quite effective!
It might be an idea if the ACU had some guidelines or rules eg; Bikes should be turned off except when riding or just prior to you riding a section.
Might save a bit of fuel as well.

To start off this forum here's a trial definately worth travelling for. Next sunday 13 feb is the Old Bazzola Trial run by the Stocksbridge Club. Two laps of 18-20 sections, non stop rules, road work involved, good sensible straight forward sections with two routes just north of Sheffield. Entries close feb 11.

Is it just a normal bumbag. Are the hooks on the rubber strap attached to anything particular on the bike.
Thanks Mark T

I think the point of this post has been lost somewhere on the way!

Andy,
If its a separate forum it might encourage organisers to post details of the trials they are running giving details of what type of venue, how many laps, length of lap, what ability of rider usually competes, directions to the event, is there a refreshment van, roadwork, how many routes. how much to enter etc etc.
Riders reports on the events would give valuable feedback to the organisers and help riders choose events that are worth a go. At the moment if you want details of a trial the usual way is to look in t&mx news in the regs available. this only gives the basic details. A forum could be a useful way of getting the extra info on an event.
Do any of the organisers or riders on here think it's worth a go.

philswiv,
Try looking at the Bradford mc website. They run a beginners series. Hillsborough mc run a novice and beginners series of trials on the north side of Sheffield.
