Just noticed that everybody talks about everything related with trials except the trials we all actually ride in.
Perhaps we could have a forum to discuss which are the best venues in different areas of the country, which trials are worth travelling for, which are the good road trials (we have some good 2 laps of 18-20 section trials eg; Stocksbridge trial, Hipwell trial etc) that are better than many of the nationals.
Which trials are not worth bothering with.
Some organisers put on events which really suit beginners but you don't till you get there.
What routes are provided (Hard - Clubman - Easy - 50/50). Are they what they say. Is there good route marking. Are there good flags, etc.
Championships. Are they worth bothering with or are the other nationals better.
Reviews of trials people have ridden in. Were the queues too big, were the sections good etc.

Ishy, is that the position you had the bag in to act as a seat. I had a seat made of some foam that campers use as a bed but a seat that holds some of my other tools would be good. Did you take a rucksack or other bag round with you,
thanks Mark T

If you like your sport leave the restrictors in. We will lose venues like crazy if we all have bikes pumping out excess noise

Heard something recently about an insurance scheme where your car has some kind of black box fitted that records the mileage you do and what time of day you drove. If it could be done with bikes it could be a cheap way for younger trials riders to get legal. Just riding on the road in daylight hours for say 20-30 sundays a year, 25 miles a time wouldn't put a lot of miles on your record. How it could be turned off for trials without road use may be a problem though!

Grease works for us and helps stop corrosion setting in on spokes

The number is not your riding number I hope. Mine is 311 and there's 270 entries! Hope everyone on the forum got in.

Not really on the theme of the post but how does wd40 make a chain and sprockets last longer. Are you comparing it to a particular aerosol chain lube. We would only use wd40 if we had nothing else. I can see that it penetrates the joints better but the lubricating qualities are not up to the job. Mark T

Pathfinders and Derby have a trial at Clifton, Ashbourne wmich would be ok for any ability

Kinell, What you see on the video is a very flattened version of the real thing. Cameras don't tell the truth. Also the holes below the waterline can't be seen either. Some of the sections are very steep and intimidating!

They didn't give that info. Probably a sliding scale, the less you did, the lower down the list you are. Seems a bit unfair to base it on last year only rather than a look at the total history. If it was just on last year then Doug Lampkin wouldn't be on the list.

Just found out the reasons why Richard Timperley is not on the list. The criteria is on last years performance in the British championship or the Novogar championship.Unfortunately due to personal circumstances Richard did only a couple of rounds of the Novogar and some other nationals he is not considered to be eligible for a guaranteed entry for the expert class. It is not down to lack of ability etc. It does seem wrong that other factors are not taken into consideration.

Try harglo-performance.com tel 01386 701162. I think they used to stock engine parts

Could it not be argued that the road is just used to get between sections. The trial does not take place on the road. You do not need cover to take part in the event as this is already provided by the insurance paid to the ACU. Might be worth pressing this point

When I had a Yam tyz 250 the manual said you should do your 2 stroke mix and use straight away. The oil does separate from the fuel. I have often thought a cause of main bearing failure in some bikes could be due to the oil separating. If you fuel is stood in the bike for a few weeks I would think it possible for a very rich mix to go through the engine first then the rest of the fuel could possibly just be petrol with very little oil.

Thanks for all the ideas. I am going to look at whats available at pushbike shops, army surplus and outdoor clothing shops. The lightweight mountain bike coats look good. Where are neoprene gloves available from and do they work. Has anyone tried MSR gortex enduro coats and trousers. I guess they are expensive.

ishy, my back also kills on the moors, am wondering wether a camelback rucksack would help. Had a normal rucksack last year which was hell then bought a UFO bumbag halfway through the week. That was better than the rucksack but still not good. I might experiment with something similar to your idea. mark T

After last years scottish drenching I am trying to find clothing which will keep out the water. I spoke to one of the army riders who said his army breathable clothing kept him dry all week. Someone else had a good quality Goretex climbing jacket that he said worked well. Any ideas on coats, gloves and leggings that are worth their money (or not) please.

did you ride all the sections with it on , also did it last the week
