  1. I am not in the UK but I always wear gloves. It gets really hot here in Texas but when I crash it seems my hands hit first so I like wearing gloves. I guess I could stop crashing, but gloves are more realistic .
  2. Good luck with your move! We moved from Acme PA to TX (DFW area) in January. Even with my employer paying for a mover it was a lot of work. We are still getting settled.
  3. Well this thread was for naught, I bought a 2009 Beta Evo 300 4T instead. It is coming from Jack's Cycles in Maine. The frame has been verified as being the new upgraded frame after the recall. Thanks for all the advice though, it was greatly appreciated.
  4. Thanks for the advice folks! Trials prices seem to be high around here in Texas. $2000-2500usd max usually means you buy 2000-2004 year range bike. I have not seen any that cheap unless they are very old or clapped out. In fact the last bike I looked at was a 2002 GasGas and they were firm at $2800usd. I think lack of used bikes on the market in this area drives prices up. I do plan to offer less than he is asking but I don't expect him to accept much lower than a $2800 offer.
  5. I have the chance to buy one of these local to me that seems to be in excellent shape. It comes with new tires (just installed) and a brand new rear fender (not installed). It also has had an updated engine case installed due to the known corrosion issues from coolant. I know there could be some part availability issues, but is there anything else I should know before going to look at it? He is asking $3100usd but told me to make an offer. This is the bike:

  7. I have a cheapo Wulfsport "Action" trials helmet and it has never bothered me. I have no idea what it weighs, I have never found any specs on weight for it. However, it feels very light compared to my street and dual sport helmets. Even in XXL though it's a little snug, that bothers me more than the weight after a couple of hours riding.
  8. I usually use Renthal but bought these Pro-Grip brand grips for my Scorpa and like them a lot. I use hair spray as lube to slide them on then safety wire. I have been doing this procedure since the 90's on my dirtbikes so I just carried it over to my trials bike.
  9. I know lol. But it has to be cut open to repack and I can't weld aluminum with my current welder setup. Edit: I did try to source a replacement but there is not much available for this bike. I also haven't found anyone in the US that offers a repack service for this type of silencer.
  10. I plan to buy a new bike next year and I want a four stroke. Not because I think they are better but because they are quieter. My old Scorpa is fairly loud. My friend has a 4rt and it is super quiet. I want to be able to practice in my yard without annoying my neighbors. So I need to find a Beta 4t to ride to compare it to the 4rt and then I will decide. The 4rt is nice, feels a little "slower" off the bottom compared to my SY250, but with or without the revs up it much smoother I feel if that makes any sense. The engine braking is something that will take some time for me to get to used when I buy a 4 stroke trial bike of my own.

  13. That is your chain guide. You don't see them on twin shockers because they have less suspension travel and the chain can have more tension. Your bike, if reasonably modern, needs a little chain slack for suspension travel so there is some potential for your chain derailing at the sprocket without running a guide.
  14. I was on the fence between the Gaerne oiled and the Forma's. I went with Gaerne because I was able to try a pair on and could not find the Forma's anywhere. Lots of folks seem to really like the Forma's though.

    Sy250 Or 315R?

    I have a 2005 SY250 with the Yamaha engine and I really like it. It will be a good bike to beat up for a year or two while I learn some bike control before I buy a new bike. Edit: I meant to also post the guy I bought from is a friend and he replaced with with a 4RT. I find the 4RT much harder to ride, but I can't put my finger on it. Probably something to do with my noob level of skills.
  16. Either fanny pack if I am wearing it, or the pocket on my riding pants. I do not have any dedicated trials gear yet (other than helmet) so my MSR enduro pants have a cargo pockets I use. If I crash on that leg I am sure I will regret that lol.

    Thanks for the link bilks I am going to look at it now. I looked at Tryalsshop biffsgasgas and only saw one for the new bike. I will email Mike and ask. exman sure I would like to see pics. I am not opposed to making one if I can't buy one.

    It's an old bike so I don't expect to find anything, but I was wondering if anybody knows of a pipe guard that will work on a 2005 SY250? Riding yesterday I melted my riding pant leg to the front exhaust lol.I was thinking a guard might be helpful. Thanks.
  19. It is. I was fearing the worst as some of these electrical components are discontinued. I think I must have gotten it wet or something. The fit of that electrical plug onto the CDI is very loose.
  20. I got the it running. Lineaway was right and it was the connection at the CDI. I tried anti-seize to promote conductivity and it worked until I moved the CDI to tuck it back away so the tank would fit, then no spark again. I finally got annoyed and replaced that three wire plug on the CDI with three separate wires with barrel connectors crimped to fit the CDI posts tightly and it started first kick. Back in business, thanks for the tips folks.
