Many thanks Deryk
I tried to reply to you through the TC system but I am not authorised for that.
The pic of the bike against the wall helps because I can work out a possible footrest position, mudguard brackets and exhaust layout.
JonV8, I cannot reply through the TC system for the same reason as above.
I need sprocket teeth details, ie. rear, gearbox and engine along with best mag to use and a few gearbox details although the gearbox is stamped TRI on the top so I am presuming its a trials ratio box.
My email address again is;
twinshock2@gmail.com
Thanks

Hi All
I'm looking for some help with a 350 BB32 rigid Goldie that was built in the UK in the 70's by my brother Mike Galpin.
After he died in 88 I imported the bike to Australia and after it changed hands a couple of times I finally have it back and intend to restore it to its original build condition with a BB32GS motor.
I need to talk to someone with a similar bike and I have been advised by JonV8 that either or both of Chris Hurworth or Graham Howes might be able to help me and I am hoping they will see this post and contact me on my email, twinshock2@gmail.com
Alternatively it would be great to talk to anyone who has experience with building a 350cc Goldie trials.
I have the bike as a rolling chassis at the moment with the engine ready to drop in, I need advice on gears, electrics and footrest positioning.
Look forward to hearing from someone who could help.
Cheers

Hi
Its already Christmas day here in sunny Brisbane, Australia, no trials happening cos' its too friggin' hot.
Badly missing the cold, wet, muddy BMCA events in the Midlands and all the guys and gals involved there.
Looking forward to a swagfull of prawns and beer for Christmas dinner later on and just about to have a gut full of champagne and orange juice for brekky.
Happy Christmas to all my old pommie mates and families and keep yer' feet up in 2015
Cheers

Hi, would you be JD Martin who used to ride in the Midland centre in the 60' & 70's.
I did as well till I emigrated to Aus in 1980, back here at the moment and been having a few rides, its strange meeting guys you rode with after 30/40 years, they've all got older !!!!!!!!!
Welcome back, you will enjoy it like I have

The dry grass tells me the pics were taken in Queensland somewhere, can't wait to get back, too cold, too wet, too muddy in UK

Andy, thats a "smart" comment to throw in about volunteering to be their results manager !!!!, I've probably set more sections and done more sets of results than you've had hot dinners !
At least Highland Lassie accepted that I had a valid point and it opened up discussion that explained the delay and will possibly serve to improve the system in future.
-
All clubs large and small are run by volunteers and as an organiser and official I know the hard work that goes into putting on an event and issuing results.
All I'm saying that with todays technology, and you use it for the full SSDT as I have already pointed out, you could have rolling results starting Friday afternoon rather than Sunday morning.
You have supposedly the best Pre 65 event anywhere, use the existing facilities to satisfy impatient devils like me.
Cheers

Am I missing something or am I correct in thinking its Sunday morning and still there are no results posted on any website for what is described as the premier Pre 65 event in the world.
Over the last 12 months organisers have been promising to improve communications etc etc, well how about putting some results up guys n gals, there are a lot of people who were following the trial from long distance and overseas.
You manage to get the daily results up and rolling for the SSDT before the end of that days competion so why is it so different to the Pre 65 event.
Yes, you are correct, I didn't get a ride this year or last year !!
-
BMCA are the best I have come across for getting results up quickly.
Down under, where I'm from it can be days or even not at all that results are announced.
With todays technology there is no reason why results can't appear within hours, I think the problem lies with the computer skills of the people doing the results.
I'm talking generally and not specifically about Red Marley, I didn't send 2 X SAE's either.

Here's a few that relate to the older guys riding Classics;
**ck me dead, it won't go over that !
Jeeeeeeeesus !!!!!
Outa the way,,, no brakes.!!!!
Sounds great on full song.
I got it cheap !!!
That mud sticks like sh*t on a blanket !!!!
That banks steeper than a lift shaft !!!
I can fling mud 20 meters !!!
Is the pub open yet ???
I can tie a knot in my chain !!
Aaaaaaarggh !
***k it !!
These are a selection of the more common phrases in general use at a Classic/Pre 65 event where sportsmanship and goodwill prevails between riders.

Hi Cycledave
I've been setting sections for over 50 years in the UK and Australia and the biggest mistake made by clubs is to set sections to stop the best riders.
Set sections to please the majority not the minority but of course have a couple of them to take some marks to sort out the result.
If you have the usual closed circuit course that is predominant these days and you can find 10 or 12 sections and do 4 or 5 laps then set 2/3 sections to take some marks and the others cleanable by the average rider.
If the hotshots go home on a total of less than 10 marks lost they will be happy and the average riders go home on 20/40 marks lost they will also go home happy but more importantly they will come back for the next event.
I don't agree with whoever said the best riders can loose up to 20 marks per lap, thats way, way way too many, think how many Joe Blow would loose in last place,,,, you'd never see him again, we have to encourage guys to return, this applies to all types of bikes, modern, twinshock and classic.
Hope this helps
Cheers

It certainly held the water in that chaincase, I'm surprised it ran at all, was there water in the gearbox as well and then there's the crankcase,,,,,,,,,, good luck with it, keep us informed of progress, I'd like to know how it turns out.

Hey Ron
I don't know you but I reckon you also have massive balls to write your comments about the beginners trial.
As organisers we have all ballsed up on occasions but I bet you have put on more cracking events than bad ones but people seem to comment less on those.
Don't let one bad one put you off matey as the sport needs guys like you that will set sections and also act as CoC, if the protesters feel that bad they will talk to you but after your comments I would hope they shake your hand and say "we'll give you a hand next time".
Cheers

You would have thought the organisers would have put some information about what is happening on the official SSDT website as a courtesy to all the riders, family and spectators who are milling about in the region wondering whats going on.
As a rider who missed out on an entry I feel for the section setters who have wasted their energy and time and everyone else who has taken holiday and spent a fortune to watch the Pre 65 but I think there should have been a website update to keep everyone informed, you can't rely on word of mouth in a situation like this in what is supposed to be a professionally organised event.

I guess from the lack of responses their are very few guys who have persevered with the BSA heavies and the Ariels, RE's and AMC's models are much more popular.
Some guys from the Midland centre might remember this bike, put together by my brother Mike Galpin and ridden under the Sutton Town MCC banner in the 80's. I shipped it out to Australia after Mike died and eventually parted company with it around the mid 90's.
I've been back in the UK for the last two years on family business and I am currently holidaying in Australia and got the urge to buy back the BSA which I have done.
I would like to refurbish it to a good standard but it needs some updating on the rear end and I would like to hear from anyone who has used this combination of B31 / Goldie motor in a suitably modified frame,,,, or are they all under a dust sheet in the back of the shed waiting for the heavyweight "revival" to happen.
Would love to hear from anyone who knew Mike or the bike.
Cheers

I have recently got hold of a 350cc ZB32 Goldie motor along with the rigid trials frame that it was fitted in.
I want to get hold of a suitable trials swinging arm frame to add a bit more comfort to the old girl, "the bike not the wife" !!! and get it going to compete with the heavyweights
Any suggestions what frame to look for .
Your responses will be appreciated

I've also got a 1959 trials Cub and when the "no MOT for pre 1960's" rule came in on Nov 19th last year I was straight up to the local DVLA office on Nov 20th with my insurance etc in my hot little hand. she asked for my MOT and didn't know about the rule change until she checked it out, she came back with "you are correct sir".
She asked why I hadn't got an age related rego number and I told her it was too much trouble, she said, "I can do it for you now" which I gratefully accepted.
I was in the DVLA office for 10 minutes and came out with a 12 months tax disc, an age related number and it hadn't cost me a penny, I also had a big smile on my face.
Manx 2 day here I come.
