yes
yes, I sealed both sides of the gasket and put it back into place. Working great.
-
So I took the reeds out and found the gasket material there very slightly crinkled (not cracked) . There was a little discolouration where it looked like gases were escaping or being sucked in. I cleaned everything and sealed it all with a tiny amount of silicone. I rode today and for the first time the bike didn't stall once. Couldn't believe it. Finally found the problem. Thanks

Brilliant Cord, I'll have a look at that area asap. I recall I had to put some tape on the Carb outlet previously as the boot was a bit loose. Maybe there is more going on there that I missed.
Thanks

Just ordered a new 260 and I am already looking at bling and jewelry for her. Any advice where to look? Google hasn't been too helpful.
Thanks
PS. Will the standard AJP levers fit the new Braketec pumps? If is hard to tell from the photos available.

I am really torn about this decision. I love that the beta is so quiet and everyone raves about the ride. I also have a great local dealer. The Monty looks awesome (IMHO), is injected, and has a new engine that is supposed to improve the ride a lot.
I do some long rides (120 km plus), way out in the wilderness (BC Canada), so reliability means a lot to me.
Love to get more feedback from those of you with knowledge of either bike.

I'm trying to decide between the 2014 evo 300 4T and the new Montesa 4RT260. For you 4t owners out there, would you buy the beta again or would you go for the Montesa if you could? Thanks for your input.
-
Oh, I forgot;
4) Which has the least engine braking?
5) which is the most descrete so my wife won't notice it in the garage?
-
I am also trying to decide between these two bikes.
1) which one is quieter?
2) I know the monte is very reliable, is the beta as reliable? (I've been wrenching a lot on my current bike and I am tired of it!)
3) who makes the Beta engine?
Thanks

Just met someone riding who got to look at the new 2014 bikes at a montesa demo. He said he saw Toni Bou riding there and he had a partially disguised 2015 that had 2 spark plugs.
Any truth to this? Anyone else seen anything?

Just wanted to let anyone who is interested know that increasing the idle speed fixed the problem. Embarrassing to admit and a huge waste of time in retrospect(taking the carb apart ~ 15 times). Simply increasing idle speed fixed it right away. Thanks for all your suggestions.
-
Any word the the 2014 bikes? I am looking for a new ride and wondering if there will be any changes for 2014. I haven't been able to find anything searching online.
Thanks for any rumours.

Thanks Charlie,
I'm considering a new carb just to see if that could fix the issue. Easy way to sort out the source of the problem too.. If it still happens w a new carb than the carb is unlikely the cause..
-
It has nothing to do with 'extreme downhills'. It will stall going down fire roads or logging roads that a typical truck could drive up. We have loads of steep riding here but it will stall on stuff you could ride a bicycle up.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Wanted to give you an update. The mod did not work. Still stalling. I changed the float height so much that eventually the bike wouldn't start; still stalling. Tried moving to a 50 pilot jet; nope.
Any advice? I'm frustrated. Just want to sell the bike now and get rid of this problem. Our local trials mechanic is just as baffled as me. He has same bike and same problem.
Thanks

I just drilled and tapped. Worked well. had to be careful with the filings in the tank after but I cleaned it out really well. Generally, bike runs much better now. Glad I did it.
-
Here is the new fuel line (yellow one).
-
I already emailed Chris at Splatshot and let him know. I will post a pic when I next have the plastic off.

In case anyone else has this problem, we have it fixed. Local rider and I both had the issue, we both did the same mod and both our bikes are running great now.
We basically added the 2013 fuel bypass line. The fuel now goes to a T piece after the pump. One branch goes to the carb and the other goes up to the top of the fuel tank and can dump the fuel back in there. This way the fuel pump is not pushing too much fuel Into the carb. When the float closes the fuel line, it now runs back up into the tank.
Bike runs better generally and no more stalling on downhills.
Hope that can help someone.

Here is a great reply I got from Splatshop
Yeah the valve needs to be closed but the spring wants to be fully extended. Many of the new bikes come with the float set higher than we show in the picture but we find on the Shercos they run best in the position show, it's a personal opinion though so please experiment and go with what you prefer.
The new bikes do come with a T piece in the fuel line, it goes between the Pump and the Carb and the pipe runs up to just above the breather pipe hole in the tank.
It uses the another nipple the same as the breather to go back into the tank:
http://www.splatshop.co.uk/sherco-fuel-tank-breather-nipple-2010.html
This is in my opinion designed to give the bike a little more fuel when it needs it the most and as you say to give the fuel somewhere to go if it over pressurisers.
There is a relief valve in the pump to do the same kind of thing so it might be worth checking this is clean and is still working, it's just a plastic ball and spring that seals a passage way between the two sides of the pump.
The main problem we found with the 2010 and 2011 bike was the angle of the carb, on the 2012 bike they lifted the front of the carb and dropped the back to bring it a bit closer to level. You might be able to do something similar with your if all else fails, the 2012 airbox will fit and you could probably get a new 26mm rubber manifold and cut it to lift the carb slightly and blend the top the manifold so you get a smooth flow.

I have an almost new 2012 2.9 that is stalling on downhills. I have adjusted the float (in both directions actually, as an experiment) but that didn't help. I found the pilot to be clogged 2 times when I took the carb apart. I therefore drained the tank, put on new fuel lines and an inline filter. No help (though the jet is now staying clean). Bike runs really well otherwise. One of our local riders is trying to modify an early 2013 to put a "T" on the main fuel line. One branch will run to the carb and the other will return to the tank through a new inlet. He is wondering if this will prevent the pump from forcing too much fuel into the carb when the float should have shut off the fuel flow. Apparently the newer 2013s have this.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Love to know if anyone else has this problem, anyone come up with any fixes? We ride some very steep and long downhills here. It is a bit of a pain to have to think about bliping the throttle to prevent stalling when one should be focusing on brake control and survival.
Thanks in advance

Had a nice ride today on the 2013 2.9. Loved the suspension and the transmission. Hated the fact it stalled every time it pointed downhill and was hard to start pointing downhill. Apparently this can be fixed with a carb cleaning. I'll try it again after the cleaning and hopefully it is better.

Outlaw; I'm in Squamish, I'm meeting Spencer this week to ride the importer's demo bike.

Thanks.
I get to ride one this weekend. I'm stoked. I'll let you know my impressions.

I am looking at a new 2013 bike. Trying to decide between the OSSA , Beta, and Sherco. I'm an intermediate rider. We ride woods with steep hill climbs and steep rock sections, some longer trail rides; all in big mountains (British Columbia).
Any comments on the Ossa bikes? Some people are saying the the FI isn't quite there yet, Carbs are still better. How about general quality and reliability?
Any suggestions what you would buy if you could get a new 2013?
Thanks from a research (and trials) addict.

I am interested in a new 2013 Sherco 2.9. I have a 2010 GG currently. I was just in a local (Beta) shop and someone mentioned to me that the Sherco bikes have had electrical problems. I can't find any forum postings about this.
Any truth to this?
Any general comments about the quality of the bikes and their reliability?
Thanks
