this has been oft discussed in recent weeks and although atf has been a favorite for some time strong arguments for using proper gearbox oils such as 80wt MTL which seem compelling so i ve bought myself some for my next change.. ( well as soon as the folks at Beta get back from thier holiday in the highlands and i can get some consumables)..

in some ways, even whilst in kinlochleven, the issue of results can seem like a closed shop. the tradition of announcing finals at the saturday evening presentation means that very few have acess before then,
this is the same as many trials i ll quote the scott as a yorkshireman
its also an issue that t'interweb isnt what it is down here
its also the case that none of the organisers are working from home during the trial
the demand for information though is undeniable and insatiable, we all sit in our home late at night on lap tops, and everyone with a mobile phone can now acess the internet 24/7 from almost any location
i follow non league football and the fans ( not the clubs or offcialdom) have grasped the opportunites especially twiitter based to broadcast information informally and acuratly .. immediately. if scarborough athletic score against lincoln moorlands railway i know and others have described and commented before they ve kicked off again.
and that from only 100 folks watching a game
if we want information, armchair fans providing thier own platform (#pre65 ?) has to be the way forward.. we use a twitter feed http://twitterfall.com/?trend=%23safclive!%23555a5b for the football..

did i spot Barney Rubble at about 1.16 red and black jacket on an areil?
-
knowing how tight those 240 exhausts are in there as std i can only suggest that another route/ exhaust is used, that or a nice long inlet manifold for the carby..
-
amazing how results can seem to take a lifetime to appear even for competitors reciept can be days. some clubs nail it and put them up here and email within hours yet others take days /weeks. not restricted to trials though daughter did a triathlon this week her times were available printed as she crossed the line and overall with graphs comparisons emailled within 3 minutes of the last competitor crossing the line however other events rely on a second class stamp..as norman pickles many years ago said ''why would i spend 800 quid on a computer to save the price of a stamp..''
-
use the gas mans flue silicone its rated to 800 c
-
get it properly hot then constant pressure rather than a big hammer..
-
carole nash cover my unregistered bikes on the frame number alone, agreed value. i have 9 bikes covered for a little over 200 quid.
-
pictures always helpful, ive shared on facebook.. good luck
-
old fashioned washing powder.. omo/ persil etc
-
your not going bonkers it did exist , i referenced it a fair bit up till about a year ago
-
wow 5 hours each way to see a bike, thank goodness for the peoples republic of yarkshire theres at least one in every street. amazing how we take things for granted. respect.
-
plenty of fantics in there.. very supple front ends on some bikes as well..
-
tread depth is not the issue. how square are the blocks especially at the edges, if the outer blocks leading edges are visibly more rounded than the trailing edge turn the tyre..
on wet grass go as low as 3lbs at the rear and get your weight back.. practice makes perfect and trials are no good for practicing..
-
i m jetting my bike as we speak. a std engine that ran brilliantly put on a different exhaust and the difference to the running is unbelieveable. i suspect your going to become good friends with the folk at Burlen (they are very decent though, delivery is nxt day )
-
for a wash and ride bike the scorpa for an appreciating asset the fantic. for an easy ride both are fairly equal though the modern bike will always be easier ( suspension wins that battle)
i d pop for the fantic . i have one and a beta if i had to get somewhere cross country ie setting out trials then id choose the beta if i were playing on apiece of land the fantic
not an easy choice for you.. both would be best..
-
a couple of observations ( no pun intended..)
why not have both front and rear brakes lever operated from the bars thus opening up to the after market/oe mtb specialists such as Hope.( state of the art lightweight hydraulic disc brakes) this mean feet are for standing on not twitching the toes on the right foot looking for a brake..
-
laudable intentions, but opens a can or worms, how young is young.. and how old is old enough to certain of a place... does a regular 55 year old rider give way to a 75 year old once a year man..
first come first served covers all the basis..
trials a simple sport for everyday folk.., complicated only by blokes on bikes
-
write your post code phone number in that ink that shows up under ultra violet on the frame engine forks then if it ever does get taken without the owners permission it ll be easy to prove it was yours.. also data tagging is a good idea ( other systems are available) but most of all enjoy..
-
the vin is what it says, a vehicle identification number how you choose to use it is up to you. manufacturers use them to identify production quantities/ date of manufacture and model/ specification. dvla use them to link to a registration document (V5c)
-
you took the vin from the frame did it match the vin on the v5c? many vehicles have a single figure or so wrong between frame and v5c and dvla usuallly sort this out when the MOT comes along .. HOWEVER since the dvla moved almost exclusively to swansea and paper based enquries many vehicles are been found to be incorrect and dvla have started taking a very strict line. if you cant prove there is a VERY good reason for the two to differ they will withdraw the v5c and you have to apply again including the various vehicle checks /tests.
a sports car with a very well logged history, carrying the same number plate for over 45 years has just had its v5c withdrawn by dvla never to be returned due to inaccuracies in paperwork dating back to the 70's.. its value fell from 8k to 1k overnight.
-
cover your bike via msm thats fuly comp and leagl for trials for just over the ton for the year..
the trials insurance will not stand up as sole insurance so you need minimum third party annually plus the tax disc
yes they will need the bike to be insured before issuing a v5c you insure against the vin and they have things called computers that connect to insurers computers and they know if you have /have not got insurance..
if you ve sent off your stuff you ll get it all back in a fortnight saying... sorry no insurance..
-
yup hung up on the nova1 from hmrc, dvla will not accept application without clearance from hmrc i have all the other stuff.. this is the second time i ve applied for it..
-
so apologies if i missed this but there seem to be a significant number of significant jotagas personnel in this group. and as i suspect gb is the second largest market for trials bikes i ask myself how many NEW beta gasgas sherco scorpa ossa etc have i seen in use this year?
as for hope building bikes.. those lads are business men.. why sell a motorbike for £6k when they can push out top end gear for £6kpush bikes 24/7 365 days a year..
-
regretably my 1953 AJS is hung up on dvla paperwork as i cannot produce a nova 1 and i m still waiting for hmrc to say they have no interest in it..
