  1. the poachers NBBR is about 20 mile round and is the most popular round the west riding is about 40 mile round and gets a lot fewer riders... personally if its nice countryside views quiet roads then 40 is ok but 20 is better always surpised that british road trails are rarely laps of a shorter course. on the continent two three or even 4 laps of a say 5 mile course are common. the lake district sammy millar round was two laps of about 20 miles but that was tooo long and entries fell even though it had some of the best views ever in later years.
  2. from the horses mouth.. ( a michelin distributor) ''a tubed rear trials tyre is no longer listed as manufactured''
  3. l'd have an eye out for corrosion. The upper shock mounts can collect a bucket of crud and the swing arm is made of folded steel and collects water and crud .. aside from the differences above check out the front brake arms as they differ and those gold rims might look ok but internally they rust like no other. the rust accumulates and it means fitting a new tyre is nye on impossible without spending A LOT of time removing the stuff..
  4. 1975. its been fettled by a proper man that can Paul jackson its fiddle forks alloy rims 4spd engine centre plug head looks like a rob homer exhaust. could do with a tidy bare alloy tank elextrex ignition new bars controls etc so a very good thing outwardly to get cracking on with
  5. heres a live example of a proper modded bike.. i d expect it to fetch mid price range money..http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BANTAM-TRIALS-PRE-65-/141203389298
  6. if your building a bike and the first question your asking is how much will it be worth then the answer is not to proceed any further if the question is how much will it cost to build a bike then the answer is anywhere between 1 and 5k If the question is how much will it cost me to buy a built trials bike the answer is 1500 to 5000 of course they be plenty of folk along in a minute to tell you theyve built one for 3 quid and a toffee wrapper and i dont doubt it for a minute..
  7. i believe its all about section severity. if you plot a novice route that is tough enough to only take less than 15 from the bottom half of the novice class those at the top of the class will not want to ride it and choose a more appropriate route..
  8. only need a certificate if you are manufacturing to sell
  9. just turned 100k in mine.. it does 40mpg eats motorway miles cheapest tyres last about 20 repairs 1 clutch couple of pairs of windscreen wipers 2sets front pads 1set rear pads 1 main fuel pump pair rear wheel bearings THE ELECTRICS ARE CACK rainwater leaks into the cab the rear door alarm sensor is pants. THE ELECTRICS ARE CACK yes i would have another.. its earnt its way and in 10 years its done 100k been used as a mobile tool shed and bike transport i d probably get 2k for it today and i paid 11k .. cheap motoring
  10. 19mpg is cause for celebration??? just looking at new vans here in the uk and most are north of 40mpg combined with a new renault 62 combined..
  11. 19 inch 350 trials pattern tubed tyres are readily available.. though not by manufacturers you may recognise. 18 inch 400 tubed tyres are now a rare thing and should be snapped up as no high street manufacturer makes em any more. i d whole heartedly support standard bikes but that bird has flown the nest as too few could agree on what was standard and what would be acceptable. the 18 or 19 inch wheel for example .. your argument may be pragmatic but it also instanly lowers the gearing and thus makes a bike easier to ride in a section. i wrote an article for the yc newsletter some time ago detailing the mods to the welsh championship winning cub of about 1960.. practically nothing was the facts but no one .. no one would ride such a bike today never mind win a trial on one.. the passage of time may have made the bikes older but thier riders/ owners have more money and time, resources abound in 2014 literally anything can be had at the end of a phone and so these riders with time and money spend both on thier bikes.. and the wheel turns.
  12. your already looking to substanially modify your 16c by putting an 18 inch rim and modern tyre on.. however in your context there is little opportunity to ride an original specced bike competatively and there is the nub.. competatively.. you wheel your 16c out and somebody else will pull theres out after the trial you ll set about making yours better for next week as will the other guy and what you end up with is todays p65 rules and bikes. i can only agree with alan YC delivered a trial specifically for big bikes laid em out real easy and 10 turn up.. this for probably the biggest/ most popular p65 only club in the world.. plenty of demand from the spit and polish brigade for big old black bikes but having a garage full of the things i know what id rather be riding on a wet sunday in feb and cleaning on sunday t time.. there are trials for which your 16c is competative from the factory.. ACTC long distance road trials .. long straight forward sections road mileage and nobody rides trick p65 the couple of dozen regulars ride big 4 strokes..
  13. yup just done this tonight.. again. fiddle but all sorted now.. you actually move 4 cogs not two..
  14. they do exist.. exploded diagrams certainly mine originally came from PEMS and was a poor photocopy of a4 sheets maybe about a dozen in total.. check the franch fantic site they have tons of stuff..i sold mine with my bike only last week.. sorry.
  15. i visited frosts who import por15 and was told that no sealant can guarentee to be ethanol proof.
  16. what is this fuel loses its volatiles.. ive a number of bikes and some go 18 months without running and they start easy every time. a fella took a bike from me last week that i had nt run since the day i bought it at least 18 months ago.. it started 3rd kick for me and the next day when he picked it up it started 2nd kick and ticked over to the point he turned it off..
  17. screwing the pilot jet in 1 turn does not this mechanical effect produce.. and 1.5 is the agreed starting point and for many will be the finishing point as well.. what does french law expect you to do? THAT is the only question you need an accurate answer to .. sadly us low living Brits cant comprehend running a bike a 1000m above sea level
  18. if youve a domino throttle.. peel back the rubber grip on your throttle you ll see its plastic underneath.. black is slow white is fast..slow means that for a given turn of the grip the throttle will be opened slightly less. the bikes will still go the same speed just go about getting there slightly differently... overall speed is relative.. engine size engine sprocket wheel sprocket gear selected revs all play a part and all add up.. after all a ford fiesta driven by vettel would probably lap a grand prix circuit quicker than my grandma driving a formula one car..
  19. make sure your b and b has decent drying facilities esp for boots and stuff..
  20. all very interesting but missing the point by a mile.. you sold the bike it appears that the buyer has made several modifications/ adjustments since then and before the damamge. all seem to agree that this didnt happen in the blink of an eye and that is use beyond the first noticable symtoms has led to considerablly more damage what does french law say.. expect..
  21. old news.. those on the lists have known for some time..
  22. caveat emptor... even if it was a pile of cack its his bike now.. if it was better than new would he becoming and giving you an extra 500 quid.. no. so say sorry you took it away and it was ok.. what has happened since is his issue and has nothing to do with you.. if he sued you they d laugh him out of court.
  23. i suppose it would be very easy.. however it would be illegal. non transferable means the reg no. is not able to be put on another vehicle eg sold to someone to put on thier car/bike etc
  24. had my fantic plated there as well.. it aint a ten minute job though..think they had it for the best part of a month
