  1. mot.. insurance.. tax.. for the mot you dont need lights.. take em all off.. you ll need a single tone horn.. a cheap battery powered thing for a push bike off ebay will cover that.. dont need a speedo for the mot you do to drive on road though.. all trials tyres are okay for an mot ( those that say '' for off road use only'' also say ''in usa and canada ''
  2. noi work on bike but parcels from Inmotion and trialsbits landed on the doormat so hopefully the bank holiday weekend weather will be up to the usual standard so i can have some shed time..
  3. nearside fork leg off and strippedit wasnt the upper seals leaking but the washer on the bolt at the bottom of the leg but putting new seals in as the thing is off and new springs. ( the current springs are now over an inch sorter than they should be!!) so todays question.. at the bottom of the fork leg where the large bolt goes in is a washer.. should it be fibre or rubber.. as i have both and both in bits..
  4. love the colour coded tool box.. and the fridge!
  5. oops your right it does.. forgot the amal with villers comp airfilter was later than the blog ( last updated a couple of years ago) the amal never worked as well as the villiers.. but cant reproduce another villiers for all my efforts i think the secret squirels must have had the files out on the needle and carb cutout.. the air filter is okay never had a problem in wet with it but it does need regular cleaning and very light oiling. i saw one cub in scotland with an admitterdly large foam filter that was not working as it was so wet..
  6. my amal uses the original amal competition filter ( held on by two spring clips). its gauze with a felt seal at each end..a strip down and good clean with diesel normally sorts it out. its not as whistle clean as a modern carb with modern foam filter but it is a p65 bike and thus carries a few compromises plenty of pics on the blog link below.. i ve shied away from the foam filters above especially with all the rain we ve had recently as foam can become a sponge by any other name..
  7. no speedo drive... ive some spare spacers kicking about the garage so i ve used two that sit the wheel centrally between the forks. i,m putting in new shoes this we and shortening the front cable an inch so that the thing is set up okay.. then i ll jump onto replacing the weeping fork seal THEN the front end 'might, be sorted.. moral of this story is.. when you park a bike up and leave it at the back of the garage write a note to yourself detailing what needs to be done so that come the day you pull it out you know what needs doing!!
  8. spent hours messing with the front brake trying to get some action.. although the new cable is the right length it seem that i had to adjust both the lever and the fork leg adjuster right out just to get any bite.. so in the end swapped out the no name lever for a domino and bingo.. the distance from adjuster to lever is circa 12mm greater and thus takes up a good bit of the slack i was experiencing. hopefully i ll get a chance to test it up and down the drive tomorrow. i ve also been looking at the spacers or lack of them in the front wheel as the whell sits measureably closer to the nearside fork leg than the other.. no definative answer yet.. BUT i m not sure what should be there.. any advice.. (its a 200..)
  9. too good for trialing?? the better the job you make of doing it the better trials bike it ll be.
  10. fitted my 'new' cable stop on the frot brake leg.. spotted that the front wheel sits a little to the brake side so head scratching as to how/ and why as it cant be meant to surely ( although the gasgas pampera does..)
  11. the short answers are the best answers... dont overcomplicate keep it simples..as for sprockets check out my blog cannot recommend the the sprocket supplier high enough brilliant job and fast..make sure your measurements are accurate.. they do exactly what you say
  12. couldnt be easier rev3/ evo parts next day on most stuff from silsden..
  13. at least one bike locally is being 'tried' with such modifications to clarify the difference/ validity/ improvements
  14. i have a bare main frame loop for a t20t that i was offered 200 for.. 3k seems fair money fro that bike as it stands.. i wrote a piece for the club newsletter a couple of years ago detailing the bike that won the welsh trial in the early 60's copied from a contempory article) and that bike was virtually standard..
  15. since 15/04/13 its now become about an 8 week process ( thats as a minimum.. ) your 'bike' will be very difficult to register.. you have a barely legible frame number if its complete thats a bonus without a complete one you are never going to leaglly get one.. adding an engine from a different model will complicate the issue considerabley and you ll be very lucky to get a age related number and will have to have a Q plate at a minumum.. this process will be complex and costly and ongoing will be expensive in terms of insurance road tax compared to a age related number.. by far the most practical option would be to purchase a bike /frame with a valid current v5c and amend the details.. without the practical option you will have a very torrid and expensive process to battle through..
  16. blimy i wish my piston and plug looked as good as them.. i ve got worse in boxes saved for a rainy day..
  17. i assume the 4 numbers to the right of the scores are the number of cleans, 1,2, 3,5, but there are only 4 numbers? am i just daft?
  18. i can find a photo on this site of the overall scores on this site, however, the official p65 site doesnt seem to have any at all, Are section scores available somewhere? i also see that ties will be decided by tsr25..?? (which covers baulks i think..). .
  19. you might be too late.. they were very very close to 120 on thursday..
  20. beta 200 use the slow throttle and theslow throttle kit from dave varley ( d&c classics) it ll really slow it all down.. go down on the front sproket and up on the rear he ll have a thing that ll make walking pace look very fast..
  21. well back from another great weekend and there is much to debate although not the topics most anticipated. the bbc weather forecast through the preceeding week was predicting rain all thursday/friday even the evening tv forecasts had graphic descriptions of the heavy rain/ windy conditions from very early in the week. travelling up on wednesday EVERY diigital traffic notice on the m74/8 had a simple message '' heavy rain forecast for friday throughout scotland'' thursday dawned damp and as we set off on the run rain gear went straight on . the rain continued for the entire day/ evening/night . i wouldnt describe it as heavy just persistant. friday had the rain falling just the same. i went to the start at 9.45 and bought a programme from the tent at the start. at 10.10 i was asked by a rider why no one had started yet.. i had nt noticed the start time had come and gone.. at 10.25 a chap on the start ramp shouted that the start had been delayed for an hour till 11. and that the day would be reduced to 2 laps of 15 sections. this was the only public announcement to this effect. there was no printed or handwritten notice to this effect mean time riders queued in the rain to be scrutineered. the rain continued to fall persistantly. i sawwatched at three sections during the day. i have seen some of the sections with more water in them but others that are normally bone dry were raging torrents, they were virtually unrideable for the average clubman, that a late starter would only drop 7 with the rain at its worst and the becks at thier fullest is incredible. as the first lap was about half way through riders were saying they were riding slow in the hope that the event may be reduced to one lap. others went on to ride almost two full laps before being told of the curtailment of the day. about 7.30pm rumours began about the cancellation of the following days sections ( it was still raining) no formal announcement was made nor available so when we woke to clear skies and sunshine we were set for a full day ( as were the observers and some riders who made for the start, one spectator had ridden 125 miles that morning to take in the days sport) at the start there were no notices, just handouts given to competitors that spoke of inability to set out sections, enviromental issues etc. the sun shone all day with the exception of the odd light shower ( exactly as the bbc had predicted..) plenty of opportunities to criticise but also to recognise achievement... that of the 180 starters who battled to complete the trial in the face of relentless rain and the observers who stood at thier posts throughout the day.. also that of the organisers for firefighting throughout the day plenty of opportunities to move forward, with the benefit of hindsight. in the planning and organisation for future events.
  22. the only way to really get acess to these lads is go along to trials, more business is done in the queue for sections than tinterweb.
